Actor Lou Diamond Phillips Arrested

UPDATE 4:00 p.m. ET: TMZ has learned that Phillips was released from jail on his own recognizance at 12:00 p.m. PT He did not post bail. Representatives for Phillips tell TMZ that no charges will be filed and that the entire incident was a "misunderstanding."

TMZ has learned that actor Lou Diamond Phillips was arrested early Friday morning for alleged domestic violence.

Police were called to a home in Northridge, Calif. around 2:00 a.m. and found Phillips and his live-in girlfriend in an argument. The couple had apparently gotten into a heated verbal disagreement that escalated and allegedly became physical. Phillips was arrested and taken to the Devonshire police station where he is currently being held on $50,000 bail. The name of the woman was not released.

Phillips is perhaps best known for his portrayal of 50's teen idol Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba" and has most recently been seen on NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" and various other TV guest star appearances.

TMZ is awaiting comment and more information from Phillips' rep.

61. Lou come on, first you lose your girlfriend to ANOTHER woman and now you are beating on your current girlfriend. This doesn't bode well to keeping a woman, wake up!

62. I was in court two days ago and it seems men are run through like cattle. A case before mine was as follows:
Male and female in verbale arguement. Female in car man standing outside in his yard. Male goes inside and locks the doors. Female breaks in window and ends up with a bump on forehead. Male in court for domestic abuse. Had it been the male who busted in the window and she had shot him she would have been hailed a hero. Domestic vilolence is perpetrated by females in basically the same raqtio as male/female. The courts are biased against men.

65. People are to quick to judge, this liberal system allows women to get away with too much while men end up being on the receiving end of social and emotional humiliation and injustice women should be held accountable for their actions just like men no more double standards in this country.

66. The "TRO" tool, the poor me I'm the weaker sex routine, works. I don't know the particulars in this instance. I do know that people can and do lie. It's a tool. And unfortunately a tool that is used to often and to no ones satisfaction. The courts error on the side of safety so they think, but it screws lives up. Men need to grow up and not hit on smaller men. Women need to grow up and be secure enough not to need to attack men to feel "empowered". If, "Behind every successful man is a woman". Then, In the face of every jerk is there a cranky bitch? No, of course not. It takes two to Tango. Just know that if you get pushed and push back, you will most likely be the accused. It is still a double standard. And if you just agrued and still love each other, and the police are called it will set up a chain of events that will take on a life of it's own. Work out your differences or leave. If that don't work, and it doesn't often. Get help. About 1% of cases that goes to trial for domestic abuse lose if they go to trial. ( In Colorado)

67. Domestic violence is on the rise. As a victim of domestic violence, I know sometimes it's a first time thing, other times it's a repeater; don't know enough history to have an opinion.
But, if he did more then verbally fight with his girlfriend, standard procedure is to arrest the person commiting the violence, the laws have been changed to make it an automatic arrest if evidence shows physical violence has happened, or if police feel it will escelate to that. It's for the protection of everyone. More police are shot answering domestic violence calls then most others.
And I also know women are capable of commiting physical domestic violence themselves. I know at least two men who have wives that physically accost them while drinking, or if in a rage because they arent' getting their way.
It's definitely a two way street these days on that.

70. Mr Castro,
You write with a redneck accent?
The highest rate in domestic incidences is in lesbian relationships. It takes time for us humans to feel secure enough in our own skin, that we don't need to impose our will on others. There are funny jokes about domestic violence and some are funny. There are funny jokes about mexicans, (Which I am) jews, chinese, etc,. I laugh if they are funny. I could give a flying squirrels pecker about political correctness. If you are in a relationship in which you feel the need to beat your partner into submission. Well, you are in the wrong relationship. If you are in a relationship where you are the batterred, and/or the abused as a man, don't just buy the, "Your a pussy if a woman beats you bullshit". Woman speak an average of 8,000 words a day. Men 2,500. They are much more vocal. That doesn't mean they make any more sense. You've heard the saying, " Some much to do, so little time". Sometimes it's, So many words, so little said. Don't be baited. Don't take it to the next level unless life is threatened. Walk, cause you won't convince them with your words if you haven't to date. And you won't convince anyone you can love and respect of how right you are by breaking their jaw. Walk...... Walk away.

72. men dont beat women....no reason

Posted at 10:19PM on Aug 13th 2006 by timknutoo

73. I personally like LDP. I loved all his movies! But if he is guilty...then he should be held accountable. If not then maybe justice will prevail. Nobody has the right to put their hands on no one, no matter the situation. If you don't like something that is "taking place" at the time, then you need to just get out...leave. I was in a relationship for 8 years with a man that beat me...but when it started affecting my kids...I finely wised up...I stopped following my heart and started following with my head. I look back and wonder what took me so long to get out, but their are 2 sides to the story...but still it don't make it right to beat someone like that. Men & women should respect each other.
