Actor Lou Diamond Phillips Arrested

UPDATE 4:00 p.m. ET: TMZ has learned that Phillips was released from jail on his own recognizance at 12:00 p.m. PT He did not post bail. Representatives for Phillips tell TMZ that no charges will be filed and that the entire incident was a "misunderstanding."

TMZ has learned that actor Lou Diamond Phillips was arrested early Friday morning for alleged domestic violence.

Police were called to a home in Northridge, Calif. around 2:00 a.m. and found Phillips and his live-in girlfriend in an argument. The couple had apparently gotten into a heated verbal disagreement that escalated and allegedly became physical. Phillips was arrested and taken to the Devonshire police station where he is currently being held on $50,000 bail. The name of the woman was not released.

Phillips is perhaps best known for his portrayal of 50's teen idol Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba" and has most recently been seen on NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" and various other TV guest star appearances.

TMZ is awaiting comment and more information from Phillips' rep.

76. I don't think it was right that he hit her. What he should of done was just walk away from the situation when things were starting to get out of hand. I know that,that is easier said then done. I hope things work out for him but, he was wrong in doing that. I have been on the other hand of a fist before.

77. Dear John::
I find your comments humorus. To make the assumption that I am speaking with a "redneck" Dialect, is rather presumptious of you. I will neithr condon nor commend "Dangerouse Lou Diamonds behavior. However phisical assertion is a primordial aspect of gainning what you profess to be "respect".

Once conditioned properly the female of the species becomes much more passive, and begins to operate in a prefunctory manner. This helps limit the need for "chop bustin". Thus, allowing both individual an increased awarness of relationship dinamics.

80. I don't believe it! Lou seems to be to nice of a guy to just be going around hitting women. I say if he did hit her it was because she was hitting first and he was just defending himself. There are women out there that can hit a man just as easly, and think that it's okay! You'll never make me believe he was hitting her just because he was mad!!!

86. I was recently charged with domestic violence. We were both drinking and as I always do when she gets cranky and unreasonable I was walking out the door backwards. She pushed me and I went down the steps backwards, (Bump on head, Large bruise on leg and scrathes from trying to grab the door jamb as I went over backwards.) and hit the concrete. My mistake was that when I bounced I reacted instintively and went charging back up the steps forcing the door open which hit her on the side of the face and she went down screaming like I was cutting out her liver. I looked at her and said, "Sh*t now I bet you want to call the cops and press some phoney charges, I'll get the phone". I handed her the phone and left, Then went the following day to talk with the police. I was charged with domestic abuse of a household member. I love the the woman, so we are working on our relationship. People agrue, people fight. Anyone who considers that domestic violence is just not living in the real world. The laws are such that swearing and heated verbal mutual disagreements are considered abusive. Well I say BULLSH*T!, However if you are going to roll the dice, well,,, . To state that violence is never acceptable is a small view, many people throughout history needed to be stopped, they needed to be dead and it would be justifiable even commendable. That woman that you think you love who frustrates the hell out of you however may be pushing every button you have, in your face and you think begging for a spanking. Leave it alone. If you are that unhappy with each other get help or get out. It cost me $8,000.00 for a lawyer who was a fool in my opinion, but who was the fool? He's got my money for 2-3 hours work. Hell it ain't worth it just from the financial aspect. And really nobody like a percieved abuser whether it is true or not.
If you take away alcohol and/or drugs most agruments wouldn't happen. I got straight, her I can't help, I can't change. Sad though it may be I can't change her by any means, She'll have to do that for herself.

90. Yeah I got beat up by Dangerouse Lou Diamond Once.
We use to hang out at his place and chill. He always wanted to play the theme music from La Bamba "los lobos". One day I ask if we could hear something diffrent. APPARENTLY WRONG ANSWER...

Dude flips out and starts going NUTS. he keeps screamming I am LA BAMBA and starts dancing around and singing while playing air guitar. The music was so loud it almost paralyzed me.

When I got up to leave he jumped in front of the door, and started speaking in tounges, Something about the sequal to young guns, and how he was going to be the STAR, and then something about Suri Cruise being a reptile??? Strange dude.

Once I finally managed to escape he was standing in the door way in his underwear with a bottle of VODKA SCREAMING, I AM LA BAMBA!
IT WAS HARD TO UNDERSTAND HIM OVER THE BLARRING MUSIC from the CD PLAYER, "los lobos" of course. "LOU DEMAN PHILIPS"
