It's Hard Out Here for an "Idol"

With "American Idol" auditions already underway for next season, TMZ is checking in with some of the winners and contestants from past seasons. While some are seeing continued success (Jennifer Hudson getting cast in "Dreamgirls" alongside Beyoncé for one) others seem to be hitting a few road bumps in their post-"Idol" careers.

Justin GuariniJustin Guarini: The Season One runner-up has had a hard time getting out of Kelly Clarkson's shadow and his most recent gig only almost solidifies his non-star status. On Sunday the curly-haired crooner hosted a karaoke event at Trump Marina in Atlantic City and here's the real kicker -- the tickets sold for a disappointing $10 each. That's not quite the $40 Clarkson gets per audience member for her recently-finished worldwide concert tour.

: The Guarini look-a-like has also had his own trouble launching his career after opting to leave "Idol" in its forth season. The singer has been doing a mall tour, ick, all summer with the likes of ex-O-Town member Ashley Parker Angel and one hit wonder Fefe Dobson. To his credit, his new single "Gallery" has been in heavy rotation on the East Coast and hovers at #59 on the iTunes Top Songs list but has yet to break big in LA. His new album will hit stores September 12th.

Clay AikenClay Aiken: While Aiken's first CD was a triple platinum success, it's his personal life that's been getting the most negative attention lately. Just last week an author of an "unauthorized tribute" to the Season Two runner-up filed suit against Aiken saying he and his mother tried to defame her. While Aiken denies the allegations, the lawsuit seeks at least $260,000 in damages and asks the court to order Aiken to write a positive introduction for the book and to sell the book at his concerts for at least five years.

And adding insult to injury, Aiken's song "Invisible" was also listed at #11 as one of the worst songs in history by Blender magazine.

Katharine McPhee & Taylor HicksTaylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee: Even the top two from the most recent season are already experiencing the "Idol" curse. Winner Taylor Hicks was recently blasted by Justin Timberlake, who said the grey-haired singer "can't carry a tune in a bucket." Runner-up Katharine McPhee has also had a string of bad luck as well. Laryngitis and bronchitis kept her from the first leg of the "American Idol" tour, she recently revealed that she had once struggled with bulimia and just two weeks ago, she fractured on her left foot while performing. Ouch!

31. lol. I would actually be incredibly proud to be Justin's mom. (who is beautiful and always very gracious to the fans, and from whom Justin no doubt got his warmth, class, and manners) or his P.R person, but alas I am only one of the many devoted fans who really enjoy watching him perform, and his amazing talent.
I don't usually comment on these kinds of boards, but it is just so unfair when someone as sweet and talented as Justin is unjustly ridiculed by people who have not heard him perform recently, and have no idea what he has actually been doing, and thats why I commented.
Go to his www.justinguarini.com site. Listen to his recent performances from the Galdos event, 6 Flags and yes, that Kareoke contest event in Atlantic city, and then see for yourself, what the fans know. He is fantastic!
p.s- he also does a lot of charity work on behalf of keeping music in the schools. spoke and performed in front of congress regarding that, was honored by NAMM, spoke at the young leadership division of the NAACP. Performed in front of the Georgia State Legislature on behalf of Teen Safe Driving, was honored by Habitat for Humanity for his efforts on their behalf, Participated in fundraisers for Katrina, Philly Childrens Hospital, HH Cealos childrens fund in Asia, Broadway Cares Equity Fights Aids, and so many others.
You dont hear about it. Justin does things in his own quiet way, but he is articulate, very generous, politically and charitably involved, and really a great guy!

34. How does charity work make you a good singer. Should I pay $100 to see a hack because they care about seals.

I dont think so, because there are two things I like

1. Talented Singers
2. Clubbing baby seals

38. McPhee is a media whore. She didn't win and she hasn't put an album out, so why does she think we care if she vomits her food or not. She should spend more time in the studio and less in her publicist's office. And she better not go making some crappy inspirational ballad either, because that's the last thing I need to hear from her. Hicks sucks as well, just not as much. And where the hell is William Hung on your list? He's due for a resurgence.

39. Based on facts and figures, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are doing really well. Ruben Studdard did not do well. So is Fantasia. Taylor Hicks let's see how his upcoming album will make it. his song "do I make u proud went no. 1 in Billlboard.

41. Harley, That's why Kelly has sold over 6 million copies of her "Breakaway" album, won two grammy's (nominated for 5 so far in her career), and broken more Billboard chart records than any other artist?

42. Your column forgot some of the career bumps out there for some of the other idols. How can you forget to mention Kelly's denial of lip synching the Hershey PA concert? Tamara Gray shutting down a whole Broadway production. Ruuuuuben's lawsuit against his own godfather and now to mention he sued the Alabama T shirt company that he had a deal with during the show. His no show concert appearance because he didn't get a first class airline ticket. Then there is Fantasia who bombed her Dream Girls audition with a runner up getting the role. How come no outroar from the rabid Fantasia fans over that? Are they still too busy lynching Clay for being more successful then Ruuubenn? LMAO. How Kim Locke and break up of her engagement when network wouldn't take the couple's engagement as a reality show. The ultimate bump in all idols roads. The 30+ millions viewers and votes never ever result in 30+ million in sales so Justin T does not need to worry about a vocal minority of power voters.

45. Idol is for Who? At least I'm not like you and following the crowd of I hate anything popular because it's popular. I like something because I like it, I can't help if a whole lot of other people like it too. It's fun and exciting because it's interactive, it's relaxing because I can stop thinking about work and it's something to talk about with everyone at work and keep up with my networking. I don't like sports, so I can't talk about the great touchdown or dunk some (Steve Nash) player made in the game, but I can discuss with others how much so and so on Idol rocked it or sucked ass and everyone at work is interested in the conversation. It's called networking! But you seem too immature and too young to understand that concept yet.
