It's Hard Out Here for an "Idol"

With "American Idol" auditions already underway for next season, TMZ is checking in with some of the winners and contestants from past seasons. While some are seeing continued success (Jennifer Hudson getting cast in "Dreamgirls" alongside Beyoncé for one) others seem to be hitting a few road bumps in their post-"Idol" careers.

Justin GuariniJustin Guarini: The Season One runner-up has had a hard time getting out of Kelly Clarkson's shadow and his most recent gig only almost solidifies his non-star status. On Sunday the curly-haired crooner hosted a karaoke event at Trump Marina in Atlantic City and here's the real kicker -- the tickets sold for a disappointing $10 each. That's not quite the $40 Clarkson gets per audience member for her recently-finished worldwide concert tour.

: The Guarini look-a-like has also had his own trouble launching his career after opting to leave "Idol" in its forth season. The singer has been doing a mall tour, ick, all summer with the likes of ex-O-Town member Ashley Parker Angel and one hit wonder Fefe Dobson. To his credit, his new single "Gallery" has been in heavy rotation on the East Coast and hovers at #59 on the iTunes Top Songs list but has yet to break big in LA. His new album will hit stores September 12th.

Clay AikenClay Aiken: While Aiken's first CD was a triple platinum success, it's his personal life that's been getting the most negative attention lately. Just last week an author of an "unauthorized tribute" to the Season Two runner-up filed suit against Aiken saying he and his mother tried to defame her. While Aiken denies the allegations, the lawsuit seeks at least $260,000 in damages and asks the court to order Aiken to write a positive introduction for the book and to sell the book at his concerts for at least five years.

And adding insult to injury, Aiken's song "Invisible" was also listed at #11 as one of the worst songs in history by Blender magazine.

Katharine McPhee & Taylor HicksTaylor Hicks and Katharine McPhee: Even the top two from the most recent season are already experiencing the "Idol" curse. Winner Taylor Hicks was recently blasted by Justin Timberlake, who said the grey-haired singer "can't carry a tune in a bucket." Runner-up Katharine McPhee has also had a string of bad luck as well. Laryngitis and bronchitis kept her from the first leg of the "American Idol" tour, she recently revealed that she had once struggled with bulimia and just two weeks ago, she fractured on her left foot while performing. Ouch!

91. Justin whats his name is experiencing the green eyed monster called JEALOUS,and thats what he is cause Taylor has more fans right now than JT would have in a lifetime.

92. Timberlake shits bigger than Idol, TMZ and all the posters here combined.

He is cool. Period.

93. The only person who has changed the music industry from AI, so far, has been, Kelly Clarkson. She is the it, "X-Factor".

94. I really hate to burst your bubble Idol is for who. The big names in the music industry think that idol is the best thing to happen to the industry in many a year. Also every year more and more of the named talent want to be on the show. Just one example of what the show does was when Kat McPhee sang "Black horse and the cherry tree." most people had never heard the song before and 1 day after she sang it, the original song climbed the charts. And every year it gets better. This years top 12 were much better than last years or any other year. Every year that idol makes it big, draws more talent to the auditions. It has turned into the best place for talent to show itself and to get a start in the industry. So making statements like you made really make you look, well dumb, to keep it clean.

95. Kelly Clarkson - Best success so far from idol
Carrie Underwood - will replace Kelly as best success
Rueben - I dont follow this type but heard he does well
Fantasia - same as above
This past season will bring a few more to the table of success
Katherine will do great in record sales and movies
Chris will make it big in rock
Taylor will do great on tour
Lisa and paris will both do well after they grow a little
American Idol is the best thing to happen to music in years and they keep proving it every year in the ratings. Anyone who doesnt see this is welcome to their own opinion but is also stupid.

96. I like you Ray Harcourt, you're very informed. I would have to disagree with Carrie becoming a bigger success than Kelly. Although she has the potential she would have to break out of the country market first and I don't think that is something she plans on doing. However, I think we can at least say she is the Kelly Clarkson of Country music.

97. Taylor's absolutely AWESOME!! Justin is very quickly becoming a has-been and has no reason to insult Taylor the way he did.

98. I wish I could be as cool as the folks that hate American Idol!

I wasn't a Taylor fan during the show, but when I saw him LIVE - LOOK OUT! He was an incredible entertainer.

I've seen Kelly live as well. No one tops that voice. And her personality is fantastic.

I like JT, but I lost a bit of respect for him for blasting another artist.

As for each idol's success, numbers don't lie:

103. Taylor is amazing. He is adorable and most entertaining. He deserved to be the amerian idol. When was the last time anyone heard from Ruben. As for Katherine, a spoiled brat from LA who did not ever accepted being told she didn't sound good or perform well and always blamed it on the song, her mic, or anything else but of course her, because she is beautiful and perfect!!! Not!! Did't like her from day one and am sorry she got as far as she did. Mandisa and Lisa were so much better . Trust me, if Katherine had won she would have not missed a performance. She did not like being runner-up

Posted at 10:05PM on Aug 18th 2006 by lynn

104. whoa lynn..katharine SHOULD have 1..taylor did NOT deserve 2 win. when did katharine blame other things 4 her singing? she didnt have 2 cuz she wuz AWESUM. lisa n mandisa werent dat great. the one who REALLY shouldve won dat show wuz chris.

105. Taylor was a hit long before American Idol. Idol was a place to share his talent. As for the writer of this article, guess Idol made something of you to. Helped you keep your job another day. Rock on Taylor!!!!AE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
