Haley Joel Osment To Be Charged With DUI/Pot Possession

8/17/2006 4:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

TMZ broke the story that the LA County District Attorney planned to file criminal charges against Haley Joel Osment. Well, it happened Thursday afternoon.

Osment, 18, has been charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol. Osment has also been charged with driving with a .08 blood alcohol level or higher, with an enhancement of driving with a .15 or higher. Osment was also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana while driving. Finally, Osment was charged with the infraction of driving under the age of 21 with a blood alcohol level of .05 or higher.

Osment, who was nominated for an Oscar for his role in "The Sixth Sense" at age 11, lost control of his 1995 Saturn on his way home and collided with a brick pillar in a suburb around 1 a.m. on July 20. No bystanders were injured in the wreck, but Osment wasn't so lucky: the actor was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a broken rib and a shoulder injury.

The collision caused the vehicle to flip over onto its roof and come to rest a short distance from the initial impact. The actor was reportedly alert and talkative following the accident, and was alone at the time of the crash.

ummm i have to disagree with U know who, anything that can get u high is a drug, and is therefore not something to be playing around with. Just accept that the drug is illegal and is illegal for a good reason. If marajuana was legal, we'd have another alcohol on our hands and our country would be SUCH a better place, right? fu*k off idiots.

From the looks of the car, it looks like he almost killed himself. I suspect he and his parents are grateful that he didn't kill himself, didn't kill or maime somebody else, and that they didn't get sued for all their worth. If this is his first offense, he ought to get what any first offender would get - no more, no less - whatever his name is. Who cares what he was driving other than himself, his parents, and the insurance company? There are rich kids driving old cars, and poor kids driving expensive cars. So what else is new? I do wish you marijuana "herbalists" would share with the rest of us what you get out of smoking pot. I never enjoyed feeling "altered" and would like to know what is the big attraction to this "herb." Can you not relax and mellow out without it?

If you are a good driver to begin with, marijuana alone does not do much to impair the skills needed to drive. I have driven thousands of miles while stoned, and in that time I have only avoided potential accidents that could have happened. Never have I been in an accident, stoned or sober, while driving. I feel that when I drive stoned I am still driving as well as 90% of the other drivers, if not better. Some people talk with no experience, or got high once 12 years ago and couldn't handle the giggles. Please just know your place. Too bad no one will read this.
