Rick Dees Returns to L.A. Radio

Rick DeesTMZ has learned that legendary radio personality Rick Dees is returning to the airwaves on the brand new L.A. radio station Movin 93.9.

Movin 93.9 represents a new radio format called Rhythmic Pop Contemporary and will feature the music of such seldom played artists like Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Black Eyed Peas.

Dees will serve as host of the live morning show. This marks Dees return to L.A. morning radio after being replaced by Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM in 2004.

Meanwhile, Movin 93.9 replaces Country 93.9 KZLA.

Though Country 93.9 called itself "America's Most Listened to Country Station", country music stations have not been doing well in urban markets like Los Angeles and New York. Fans can still listen to Country 93.9 via Internet streaming as well as on their HD Radio side channel.

While Movin 93.9 bills itself as "The Mix That Makes You Move," we're hoping the station managers aren't moved to add Dees 70s hit "Disco Duck" onto the playlist.

18. I am thrilled Rick Dees is back.. He is a great talent and a wonderful man.
I missed him so much... I hated KIIS for what they did to him..

19. A station that plays Gwen Stefani, Black Eyed Peas, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Gnarls Barkley, and Jennifer Lopez. Too bad KIIS FM's not already doing that.

20. this is the worst idea in the history of radio... it's amazing the amount of retardation that runs so rampant through LA radio

21. A little warning about taking KZLA COUNTRY off would have been nice! It was on this morning and at lunch I hear that crappy old Rick Dees is coming back. There was a reason he was replaced, he sucked!! I agree with a comment above, if I wanted to listen to the crap that "the station that moves you" is playing, I would listne to Kost, Kbig or Jill - I WANT COUNTRY!!! This really sucks!!!

22. F&CK Rick Dee's!!!!!!!! I hate that man. I hate KIISFM and all the other POP, R&B, HIP HOP, and ROCK stations. How f&cking dare they take good music away from us. Music you can actually sing to and know what they are saying with out every other work bleeped out. I'm so pissed that they took my country music away from me. That's all I listen to. I can say that I will never listen to the other stations espicall that new crappy station. I want KZLA back. First they take all the country music channels way from me and now this. What the hell is going on in this world that they don't know what good music is. I rather not listen to anything at work than any of those shitty stations they have now. LA NEEDS A NEW COUNTRY STATION BACK.

23. Poor R.J. Curtis, he's been programming this Country place for years, and I think might be a bigshot in the Country Music Association. I sure hope they cut a really nice check for this boy...who started playing elevator music in Riverside, CA in the late 1970's!

25. I don't care whether or not Rick Dees comes back to radio....I WANT MY KZLA!!!! I have listened to KZLA for as long as i can remember...even when 94.3 was kick fm. It really sucks that there was no warning, it's nice that i can listen to kzla on the internet....THAT DOESN'T DO A DAMN THING FOR ME IN TRAFFIC.

26. I am sooooooooo stoked about this - Dees is back! I hope he totally dominates Seacrest...

27. While I am glad to see Rick Dees back on the air, unfortunately it came at the expense of KZLA. This is just another way the corporate broadcasters are shoving HD RADIO down our throats (appears that they are still going to run the country format on their HD2 channel). Well, there's always Sirius.

28. RIck Dees is so LAME!!! He retired for a reason...he is an idiot and totally cheesy 80's!!! Not to mention there are a ton of freakin pop stations and there was only one country station, what the hell were they thinking!!! I will never listen to Rick Dees, unless I feel like giving my self a headache!!!! Who ever had this brilliant idea...YOU SUCK!!!!

29. I WANT MY COUNTRY RADIO BACK! I WANT MY KZLA BACK!!! BY FAR THE BEST FAMILY FRIENDLY RADIO AROUND. I AM SO COMPLETELY BUMMED; THAT AS SOON AS I HEARD I SENT A COMPLAINT TO EMMIS COMMUNICATIONS, THE BRAINS THAT TOOK KZLA OFF THE AIR AND REPLACED IT WITH THE SAME OLE CRAP ON EVERY OTHER RADIO STATION. HOPEFULLY ANOTHER COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY WILL SEE THE OPPORTUNITY AND BUT KZLA BACK ON THE AIRWAVES. LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! EMAIL YOUR COMPLAINTS TO: IR@emmis.com
