Rick Dees Returns to L.A. Radio

Rick DeesTMZ has learned that legendary radio personality Rick Dees is returning to the airwaves on the brand new L.A. radio station Movin 93.9.

Movin 93.9 represents a new radio format called Rhythmic Pop Contemporary and will feature the music of such seldom played artists like Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Black Eyed Peas.

Dees will serve as host of the live morning show. This marks Dees return to L.A. morning radio after being replaced by Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM in 2004.

Meanwhile, Movin 93.9 replaces Country 93.9 KZLA.

Though Country 93.9 called itself "America's Most Listened to Country Station", country music stations have not been doing well in urban markets like Los Angeles and New York. Fans can still listen to Country 93.9 via Internet streaming as well as on their HD Radio side channel.

While Movin 93.9 bills itself as "The Mix That Makes You Move," we're hoping the station managers aren't moved to add Dees 70s hit "Disco Duck" onto the playlist.

31. I too sent an email to Emmis. If you guys know the way that they handled this you would not beileve it. Emmis screwed the employees at KZLA. This new station AND Rick Dees SUCK!!! How can they say country music is not popular in LA - Give me a freaking break! Tim McGraw sold out and added 2 more shows, as did Kenny Chesney, Keith Urban, all in Orange County and LA!!!
Bring back the COUNTRY KZLA, not this Rick Dees crap!!! Everyone send an email to IR@emmis.com voicing your distaste for Rick Dees and the way they handeled this switchover and their loyal employees!!

32. Congratulation Rick! It's been loooong enough. I just heard the news!!!. You made my week. I love the energy and essence you put iinto the show. It is fun, interesting, intelligently humorous, diversified, positive, and a little flirtatious. I love it when you interview a celebrity because you make it about the celebrities, which give us the listeners, a better change to know a little more about our favorite people.

Congratulations Rick and WELCOME BACK, I’ll be happy to wake up to your enchanting sound and good music, NOT OLD and thanks God NOT country.

You are the best!!

33. As an avid fan of country music and particularly KZLA, I am appauled at how the while switch was handled. One minute you're listening to a country song, then dead air for about 30 seconds then you get the promo for Movin' 93.9 with Rick Dees laughing!!! What the hell? Rick Dees was quoted as say that it had been in the works for quite a while. That is so unfair to country music lovers in LA and OC. I for one am in mourning and looking forward to the day that Peter and Ashley and Shawn and Whitney and Brian come back to their faithful listeners and fans.

36. Los Angeles radio needs Rick Dees back on the air. He is a unique talent that doesn't sound like anybody else. His on-air personality alone will bring back his fans from KIIS-FM to listen to KZLA. I feel for the country fans, they got a raw deal. Hopefully another LA station will step up with a country format for these fans. I do have one suggestion for Rick; bring with you some new characters, the old ones like "Chewy from La Puente" and "John Revolting" are old and are well past their "shelf life"........Welcome back Rick, i will be listening on September 5th........Phil LeAnza.........Fullerton, CA.

39. WHERE IS THE COUNTRY? I am so disappointed in this "new" change... and for the record, I fall into the "age group" you are trying to reach and so does my daughter, her friends and daughter-in-laws... and we won't be listening to the new sound!

I was a fan a Rick Deez... maybe 20 years ago or more... I think they did a format change on him too. Sorry Rick, I won't be a fan this time around.

BRING KZLA BACK!

Chris :)

41. I listened to Rick Dee's the whole 7 years I lived in Orange County. I LOVED listening to him in the morning. I moved back to my home state of Texas 14 years ago and missed him. I then discovered I could listen to him over the Internet.......so I did......happy about that. Then he was out. I can't listen to him from Texas but I am so happy that he will be on the air again. Yee Haw!!!!!

42. Are you kidding??? KZLA is gone... just like that? No heads up, no discussion, no debate, just gone??? I am seriously devastated. KZLA kept me going through the hours I spend on the road every day!! I WILL NOT be listening to the new movin station. I can hear that crap on a million other stations if I wanted. KZLA was the BEST (and only clear reception) station for country lovers!! What the crap are we supposed to listen to now? KFROG is awesome in limited areas, but the DJ's are no where near as awesome as the KZLA gang! I WANT KZLA BACK!!

43. When it comes to this new stations there was an artical in the news paper about it. In the Los Angeles Times reports that the reason they took KZLA away from us is the fact that there aren't enought WHITE people that listen to it and that there aren't enought MINORITIES that listen to country music. Correct me if I'm wrong on this but don't the "minorities" take up at least 90% of our radio station? And they say "white people" make-up most of los angeles. Well times have changed and it looks like we are the "minorite" around here.

44. This is the biggest and best news for radio in years! (Country will be picked up by another channel somewhere in LA, for sure, and that'll be fine). But, Rick Dees not being on the air in LA was so wrong. He also was the only reason that I subscribed to XM once upon a time, and we've all been VERY unhappy with XM and KIIS-FM ever since their most unfortunate, listener-unfriendly decision to remove Rick. Now, what I wanna know is when is Rick coming back to satellite - for everybody??? Can't wait!!! But in the meantime, we're very happy for LA's radio listeners and will plan a trip to LA ASAP. His THAT good and his show is that worthwhile!
