Rick Dees Returns to L.A. Radio

Rick DeesTMZ has learned that legendary radio personality Rick Dees is returning to the airwaves on the brand new L.A. radio station Movin 93.9.

Movin 93.9 represents a new radio format called Rhythmic Pop Contemporary and will feature the music of such seldom played artists like Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Black Eyed Peas.

Dees will serve as host of the live morning show. This marks Dees return to L.A. morning radio after being replaced by Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM in 2004.

Meanwhile, Movin 93.9 replaces Country 93.9 KZLA.

Though Country 93.9 called itself "America's Most Listened to Country Station", country music stations have not been doing well in urban markets like Los Angeles and New York. Fans can still listen to Country 93.9 via Internet streaming as well as on their HD Radio side channel.

While Movin 93.9 bills itself as "The Mix That Makes You Move," we're hoping the station managers aren't moved to add Dees 70s hit "Disco Duck" onto the playlist.

46. Rick I have really missed you! I was so excited when a co-worker called me on Friday saying he had heard something about you making a comeback. My radio in my car doesn't work and this is my reason to go get it replaced IMMEDIATELY!!
WELCOME BACK!! No one can take your place.

47. While I like Rick Dees, and I was happy to hear he was working again...I was SHOCKED to hear the "mix that makes you move" suddenly while driving down the road the other day. Other writers are correct...you can get that music ANYWHERE on the dial...now there is no country music. It's a sad commentary on life in Southern California that there isn't a market for all kinds of music...typical.

49. Okay, as much as I like Rick Dee's I was very disappointed to come back from a business trip and my country music station was gone. All I have to say is that if Rick becomes a success, regardless of the low level of listening audience, if there are any further changes....give us a dam heads up!!!!! Now I'm really moving to Houston Texas, more for the buck and country music :)

50. I want my Country station back. Rick Dees sucks! This was a very bad business move for Emmis. If you own their stock, dump it now while you have a chance.

51. I was really bummed to find KZLA gone. I was raised on country music. We have enough of the r & b/hip hop and pop stations. Taking away KZLA was a major disappointment and I will not be listening to Movin. I thought RIck Dees was raunchy on KIIS and I don't intend to listen to him on this new station.

53. I hope that they don't put Rick Dees' 1977 hit, Disco Duck on their playlist! Yes, it made him a star and a household name for years to come, but that is one of the silliest songs I've ever heard! I went, How did this song even get on the radio? Sounded like a bunch of kids recorded and played the music on that song instead of adults. I like that he's returning to playing current top 40 pop songs--he was on that adult contemporary mode too much in the '90s and I like the fun, hip side of him the most. I liked him when he did the Weekly Top 40 show nationally.

54. I am so pissed off that he screwed over all the country fans. Not right!!!!

55. I think all of us country fans should start a petition to boot the new station and Rick Dees. A lot of employees got screwed over as well. I think we should boot the employees of movin 93.9. I would sign a petition to do that.

56. I hate this change. Rick Dees was taken off the Air for a reason! I will never again listen to 93.9. I also fit the demographic they are trying to hit. My daugther and their friends also listen to country music. . .so explaing their comments! There are tons of top 40's stations around? Now it's back to 95.5 and 106.7. Maybe even Sirius. I hope Peter, Ashely, Shaun and Whitney are moving on to something bigger and better! Good Luck to them!

Forget that LOSER RICK DEES, look out is RYAN SECREST to the rescue.
get your country music commercial free coast to coast from satellite radio.
Maybe radio executives will see that Rick Dees is about a hip as an 8 track player.
