Rick Dees Returns to L.A. Radio

Rick DeesTMZ has learned that legendary radio personality Rick Dees is returning to the airwaves on the brand new L.A. radio station Movin 93.9.

Movin 93.9 represents a new radio format called Rhythmic Pop Contemporary and will feature the music of such seldom played artists like Beyoncé, Gwen Stefani, Jennifer Lopez and Black Eyed Peas.

Dees will serve as host of the live morning show. This marks Dees return to L.A. morning radio after being replaced by Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM in 2004.

Meanwhile, Movin 93.9 replaces Country 93.9 KZLA.

Though Country 93.9 called itself "America's Most Listened to Country Station", country music stations have not been doing well in urban markets like Los Angeles and New York. Fans can still listen to Country 93.9 via Internet streaming as well as on their HD Radio side channel.

While Movin 93.9 bills itself as "The Mix That Makes You Move," we're hoping the station managers aren't moved to add Dees 70s hit "Disco Duck" onto the playlist.

64. I came back from vacation to find out about this switch.... We already have enough crap stations. & I can stand Rick Dees! I celebrated the day he retired and now he is back? What is this world coming to? Now the only country station we have is 95.1, a Riverside station.

I know one thing, I will not go quietly. This will be protested.

65. I'm not even listening to radio--just playing by CD's. I really miss Peter and Ashley
in the morning. Hope Emmis Communications loses a lot of money on the deal. What a lousy thing to do to your employees.

67. Just what we need. More music without lyrics and melodies. PUT THE COUNTRY STATION BACK ON. WE DON'T NEED ANOTHER MONOPOLY IN THIS TOWN. SURELY THERE'S ROOM FOR ONE LITTLE COUNTRY STATION. This station doesn't make me feel like "movin" it makes me feel like changing channels. GOOD BY 93.9 - YOU WILL BE MISSED.

68. I think what was done and the way it was carried out was both low for the listeners and for the crew of KZLA. I don't think that's any way to run a company and treat your employees and customers. NOTICE would have been nice, sure. That station was popular, did extremely well in the ratings, and like mentioned before in other posts on here and elsewhere...there are too many stations already playing the same crap as on this new 93.9. What are country fans in the LA/Orange County vicinity supposed to do? I agree with the poster who commented on KZLA getting her through those boring times in traffic. And I have one more question before I end. When the hell is Rick Dees going to retire? Haven't we all like listenened to him when we were 5 yrs. old? Well...i can tell you what is going to happen. KZLA is going to make a comeback. And I hope the joke's on emmis communications when it does! Two words. BIG MISTAKE messing with a bunch of city rednecks!

69. Rick, I just heard the news!!!. You made my week. I'll feel normal again when I wake up in the morning. I love the energy and essence you put into the show. It is fun, interesting, intelligently humorous, diversified, positive, and a little flirtatious. I love it when you interview a celebrity because you make it about them which give us, the listeners, a better change to know a little more about our favorite people.

Congratulations Rick and WELCOME BACK, I’ll be happy to wake up to your captivating sound and good music, not old and thanks God NOT COUNTRY!

72. movin 939 plays the same music i can listen to on atleast 4 other radio stations.so why bother.

73. Bring back Country 93.9 KZLA! Trying to force one of the most poulated cities to switch to HD radio by removing their only source of Country music is wrong on so many levels. If I wanted to listen to Contemporary Pop, I'd switch my station to one of the other MULTIPLE channels playing it.
