Celebrity Justice
Sheriff in Mel Case -- Pants on Fire

This past Friday afternoon, I landed in Los Angeles after taping my "People's Court" segments in New York. I checked my voice mail at work as we taxied to the gate and the first message was from an L.A. County Sheriff's sergeant. He wanted to talk to me about the Mel Gibson case.

I sort of knew why he was calling. The Department is obsessed with finding out who gave me the arrest report in the Gibson case. I've made it clear that I will not tell them and, besides, the law is on my side. Nevertheless, I wanted to play it out so I called him back. He was nice enough, telling me he was in charge of the "criminal investigation" into the leak and wanted to know if the rumors were true that I paid someone off for the documents. I told him I would not tell him anything about how I got the report, but I did mention that I have said on TV several times that we absolutely did not pay anyone for the documents. He thanked me, saying that I answered 80% of his questions, and that was the end of it.

Do you think the Sheriff's Department might also spend a little time figuring out why officials blatantly tried to cover-up the incident by repeatedly lying to the public the day of the arrest? Please understand, this is not about Mel Gibson. Frankly, I think given what went down, his punishment was far more severe than any other drunk driver in 2006. I can't think of anyone who was put under as much scrutiny after a DUI. This is not about Mel. It's about how arrogant the Sheriff's Department is and how officials clearly feel empowered to violate the public's trust again.

I think I've finally figured out the Sheriff's shenanigans the day of Gibson's arrest. As we reported, the Sheriff sanitized the arrest report and took out all references to Gibson's attempted escape, his anti-Semitic remarks and his bad behavior. It was done at the behest of the brass in the Sheriff's Department, and, even though he denies it, I'm told Sheriff Baca was involved in the decision. So officials told me and the rest of the media the day of the arrest that it occurred "without incident." A lie. I was told by a Sheriff's spokesperson that my information about what really went down was false. Another lie.

At the time, I felt the Sheriff, who is quite friendly with Gibson, didn't want to expose what happened on his watch, so he would arrange it so that if it came out, it would be the District Attorney's responsibility. Now I realize how dense I was -- I was totally off base. The Sheriff knew this case was going to be plea-bargained. No way would it ever go to trial. If it was plea-bargained -- as it was -- the arrest report and the incendiary video of Gibson at the station would never be admitted into evidence. It would be part of the Sheriff's investigatory file and as such protected from disclosure. In other words, Sheriff's officials clearly felt the public would never know what really happened with Mel and that they could lie and get away with it. Clearly, they didn't count on me getting the arrest report. That busted them big time. And now other lawyers have told me they've seen this happen before with other celebs.

So the Sheriff's Department is investigating why they got busted, not the corrupt process that officials sanctioned. And an "independent" commission is now investigating whether the Sheriff followed proper procedure. Well, let me tell you something about this commission. Three days after the arrest, I called the head of the commission twice -- you would think I'd get a call back if he were serious about getting to the truth. I'm still waiting, but I'm not holding my breath.

Don't get me wrong. This is not a slam on the rank-and-file in the Sheriff's Department. This is about the officials who feel they have a right to pick and choose who gets special treatment. Of course, they will do it again, and again. It's the way it works in L.A. It's just another example of "Celebrity Justice" in Tinseltown.

61. Actors love this type of attention. It either makes them famous or infamous--either way, they're remembered.

What's funny about this case is that it answered the question, "Was 'The Passion' really anti-semetic?"

Granted it was always obvious that it was anti-semetic, because 'The Passion of the Christ' was conceived and written as a play in the Medieval era during the Crusades. It was performed specifically to incite hatred for the Jews, so that the European men would be so filled with rage that they woul enlist in the armies heading for the Holy Land.

Then Mel Gibson, ever the master of propaganda (if you don't believe me, you should see my Irish mother watching 'Braveheart'), decides to manipulate the American public by making them think this play actually is beneficial to the real teachings of Jesus...or even historically accurate (Pilate's wife comforting Mary MY ASS). And predictably, Christian facists are granted an opportunity to spew anti-Semetic hatred...a moment they've been waiting for forever.

And then he chugs some truth serum, all is revealed for everyone to see...

...and everyone is surprised.

This grand irony will make him friggin legendary, and he kno.ws it

62. You keep mentioning that your report has " nothing to do with Mel Gibson". Well if it has nothing to do with him, STOP mentioning him!. Anything pertaining to the Sheriff's office should be handled with the authorities, internal affairs or whatever legal department handles these cases. TMZ is not the place for your own little personal battles with the Sheriff's department. If you have a problem , take it up with them, Don't hassle your readers with it .
You're only mentioning Mel Gibson's name in the sick attempt of getting a few more readers. Mel Gibson's name has been dragged thru the mud enough without you adding to the mix.

63. If people don't like to read gossip about celebrities then stay off TMZ! Stop lurking and trying to enforce your self-righteous holier than thou views on those of us who LIKE reading dirt. Go read your Bible or whatever, cretins.

64. You're right, equal justice for all. And that includes freedom of the press. But not the right of the press to illegally obtain reports that admittedly are not supposed to be public unless are entered into evidence. Yeah, Mel's a criminal now and maybe the cops involved, but then again so is the author. BTW, who happens to a faux-journalist who reports on a second-rate, semi-scripted daytime t.v. show with a fake judge and laughable participants. Maybe the Pulitzer Committee is reading this. Naaaahhhhh.

67. Come on Harvey...you fueled this fire from moment one. I just can't figure out if you fueled it because you are Jewish and are "so offended" (which is complete BULL SH*T) or because you were out looking for major publicity for TMZ (even bigger BULLSH*T). You and your staff are ripping this mans life apart PUBLICLY. So tell me dear Harvey, what is worse, Mel Gibson making some remarks he completely regrets while he was intoxicated, or YOU, trying to ruin a mans life while you are completely sober?? Hmmmm????????????????

69. I think it is really funny that people who say to "let them have private lives" and then are reading a gossip/paparazzi site. Can anyone say IRONIC?

Mel should get what he deserves and the sherriff's office should get what they deserve for attempting to cover up this story, and then spending more time looking for the leak instead of cleaning up their act.

70. Someone's conduct in the holding cell being videotaped is not for public consumption, nor necesarily procution but rather for lawsuit reduction I would guess. The facts of the criminal violation are in the text. While under the influence people do and say outrageous things -- and not necessarily their true beliefs. The research does not bear that out. Just stupid, regrettable, stuff. There's a good rehab program laid out and if he actually works the 12 steps of alcoholics anonymous, we'll all benefit regardless of gender or religion. 72. Not about Mel yeah right, And that it was about uncovering police corruption is BS if there was corruption they would have taken him home and said sleep it off without an arrest.
I'm sure you enjoyed destroying his life over a few words said while drunk.
anything to further your own career at anyones expense, I hope karma comes full circle and drops a dookie on you, and your ratings take a nosedive and never come back. I'll never listen to your crap again myself.

73. unfame are a group of fine artist commodity oil painters to the actors in Hollywood. We write too. Gillian Anderson's career is the catalyst to blog this issue. It's the documented vehicle that is pinnacle in helping to expose indicators of corp's fascist ways in monopolizing the arts in Hollywood.

========================
FASCIST WAYS IN U.S. ARTS
========================

CORP. HOLLYWOOD'S BACKROOMS
(like a seemingly fancy, homeless-hotel for the famous...)

HOLLYWOOD ACTORS: SUFFER IN VEIL OF SILENCE

*It seems that the people's concern for the survival of the arts has become passe. Also, the younger generation doesn't seem to be hip to the fact--like in the 30's to 40's--that working as an actor|artist in Hollywood can be a brutal and treacherous endeavor. Corp. Hollywood's powerful monopolizing stance in commercialism of the 'Arts and Entertainment Corp. Hollywood Celeb. Industry' is dismantling the arts, abusing our actors|artists and controlling the people in order to fill it's pockets with cash and at the extinction of our society's freedom of speech.

*Of course, the seasoned Hollywood actors are tortuously aware that the glitz and seeming glamour of it (celeb biz), is just the lavish icing on top of this inedible cake. In fact, this icing is the main way that Corporate hides the fact that most that work in the arts in Hollywood are part of an extremely oppressed group of talented and gifted artists suffering in silence in order to keep their job offers coming in.

*The 'red carpet, arts and entertainment corp. celeb industry' is owned and harshly managed by giant corporations specializing in marketing and commercialism (not the arts). The 'corp. celeb biz' spoils, generated in business and services, advertising, merchandise and endorsements, tax breaks, profit sharing and portfolio interest payouts, etc. via this fake cake, would surely have to be measured in the billions.

'SCARE & SLANDER' AND 'BLACK-BALL' TACTICS

*Every savvy person involved in the arts, being commercially managed by corp. Hollywood, is fully aware of the sharp blade that Corporate wields with a swift and heavy hand. I'm speaking of their 'scare & slander' and 'black-ball' management tactics. The old-money actor families that survived Hollywood, as far back as the 1930's to 40's, know that this isn't anything new.
.
*In addition, corp's questionable, extremely oppressive and borderline unlawful labor practices, sweat-shop type working conditions, and yes, skewed compensation (relative to how enormously non-affordable it is to be a famous actor), are kept under tight wraps as well. More and more Hollywood actors are outwardly showing signs of this. Even so-called "independent film" is in many cases affected by their commercialism. These stated issues that corp. Hollywood's commercialism or monopoly of America's art's is a serious violation of the people's freedom of speech.

'JOAN OF HOLLYWOOD',
AWESOME MATRIARCH OF THE OPPRESSED ARTS

*Gillian Anderson is known for being beloved, sometimes quirky and rambunctious. Also, she has most honorably and courageously earned an ever growing title, 'Joan Of Hollywood.' (Insider buzz is that there are even songs about the 'joan of hollywood' being considered.)

*Her past career situation in Hollywood is a perfect, documented, iconic example of the horrific professional, personal and thankless sacrifices that she and her peers too often have to endure in Hollywood. She's been quite humble in not glorifying it. And in true form of most artists with kindred spirits, she has not retaliated.

*However, her unfortunate situation was the necessary magnifier needed to isolate the indicators of big corporations' meticulous and methodical (marketing-disguised) coup and questionable (some might say cruel) business practices, perpetrated by their appointed money-hungry department heads, their aligned subsidiaries and their silent allied conglomerate partners.

*This promising actor was robbed, while under contract, of young motherhood with her only small child. She was forced to work 17hr days, five and a half work day weeks for a straight decade. Of course this helped corp. to cut their costs in doing business. They could have hired more people and invested more into their production budget in order to provide fair and humane work scenarios for their employees.

*Ms. Anderson's history is testimony to her convictions and activism concerning the too often taxing and established ways of the great. It's these same personal certitudes that dictate her integrity as being a 'stand up gal'.

*As a young working mom, she said no more and resigned for the sake of her small child and at great risk to her career. That's the coolest thing ever. Expectantly and immediately, the 'scare & slander' and 'black-ball' tactics began against her. Corp's unspoken policy, as most can easily imagine, is that nobody quits them. Nobody. They quit you! She was never considered for any notable big name projects worthy of her hard earned decade of accomplishments thereafter.

*In addition, Gillian Anderson's well earned reputation as a talented actor with a diligent work ethic began to immediately tarnish upon tendering her resignation. We all have seen this pattern happen over and over again to our actors that are on the outs with corp.

*The (cleverly difficult to prove) corp. 'celeb biz' sponsored gossip columns, which attack ones character via skewed truths and innuendo, is a diseased bat which preys in the darkest of hours. It's too easy to leak any rumor, factual or not, in any format, intensity, whenever and to whomever. And it's common knowledge that corp. Hollywood is the media. Therefore it's not difficult to visualize a corp. dept. head cowering behind the phone calls and fax-emails of their subsidiaries and their silent 'partners in greed' in this.

* The 'scare and slander' tactic is a vampire with a velvet touch. As many of her peers before her, that have said no to corp. Hollywood, Gillian Anderson has slipped into relative obscurity. Like many, she understandably, has since left our U.S. and moved to the UK.

*Gillian Anderson is one more Hollywood artist whose promising career, home and family, and personal life, has been unfairly damaged via corporate. Some Americans take objections to having the people's arts and our artists exploited for the sole purpose of greed, engorging the accounts of billion-dollar, monopolizing corporate heads and corporations. Our society seriously needs our promising artists. Not one is unimportant. Not one, especially young working mothers with small children. This is the U.S. isn't it?...or is it?

*God help the artist that makes the mistake of Rembrandt Von Ryan (see art history, 1600's Amsterdam) when applying for a job with corp. Hollywood; then stumbles, falls, and finds themselves unable to feed the parking meter if they don't have another kindred spirit to help lift them up.

"ACTORS ONLY GOOD AS LAST FILM"--NOT

*A more accurate statement might read: An actor is only as free, protected, and financially independent as:

* their day job's stock market, investment business bank balance.
* their self control to: regard all flattery as a net for their feet and avoid the temptations at the corp. Hollywood table of delicacies.
* their insight to maintain a bohemian-artist lifestyle after initial and long-term success.
* their courage and faith (in a savings-bohemian-artist lifestyle) after initial success to 'say no' to projects that pervert their art and move to a plan B for producing their works.
* their agent and publicist, who had better have an honorary PhD in sociology, psychology, philosophy, business, and psychology of film (see documentary about Alfred Hitchcock)
*their standing within Hollywood's old-money power structure.
* their political pull, or luck, in getting themselves put into the 'A-list job pool' cash-cow projects, which are based on financially conscious scripts dependent on demographic studies.
* their ability to take orders and not challenge the powerful corporate department heads, no matter how cruel or unfair their demands.
* their luck in not getting their career and reputation squashed in a power struggle between two or more corp. dept. heads.
* their insight to liquidate any unrealistic lifestyle and prepare for a long financial drought in a plan B (ASAP) when necessary.
* their faith and courage to stop, rest, ponder for regrouping and refuse any crap scripts or projects that threaten their reputation or integrity when in a compromising position.
* their ability to: endure and get a no-shame, therapeutic lifestyle--not bitterness--should the worst befall.
*their ability to: have the mental toughness to remember: few are they who do battle with the great without developing an irreversible P.T.S.D.

APATHY?...FASCISM?...ARTS' & SOCIETY'S FUTURE?

*History offers us friendly advice and warning What sets the U.S. apart from WWII Germany and fascist states to include those currently in the Middle East? Is it differences in the way we conduct local and global commerce or differences in our military generals?

*Supposedly it's having our arts established as the spearhead in freedom of speech and freedom from oppression. How the arts are managed and filtered into society will always define that state as free or oppressed. And when any entity other than the people begins managing the media, especially the arts, alarm bells should be going off!

*The leader of WWII Germany was a failed artist but an expert in the history and philosophy of art and it's power. Most are aware that they utilized film and media as their primary vehicle to manipulate an entire society. Was the pervasive apathy of the people, in the beginning, towards this responsible for the events that followed? The debate continues today.

*If the people don't take responsibility as the majority overseers of our society's arts and employ our supreme court judges to free the arts, well, history has a tendency to repeat itself, doesn't it? I'm not saying that corp. Hollywood's intent is anti-semitic but they have proven that they will, indeed, break down anyone that questions their power or greed.

*Fascist states suck. Their great manipulate the people by strangling society's arts with an iron hand for power and greed in order to obtain their own personal, individual and political agendas. Most left and right wing voters would agree that fascism even if enabled by a velvet touch is just as dangerous and oppressive to the people.

*unFAME understands as most do that free commercial business and trade helps keep America a global power. It's also understood that a free state's arts' belong to, the people's and the great's, society and guides it's civilization with the majority vote belonging to the people as it's overseers.

***(The Future Of Hollywood Arts?)

*In hypothetical pondering, what is our society's inevitable future should big corporations in Hollywood continue to go unchallenged? Most likely we can say goodbye to the 'For Whom The Bell Tolls' and say hello to the 'Paris Hiltons' as mascots depicting U.S. arts.

* In this we could find ourselves under a chronic 'celeb biz' anesthetic thereby evolving into a people who are unconsciously oppressed. Therein, if that's not bad enough, we could apathetically lose our consciousness for endeavoring towards universal understanding for better growth in humanity and higher civilization.

*Wake up! Stand up! are leading lyrics used in songs coming out of Hollywood studios. For us who are affluent enough to take action it might be wise to take these words more to heart.

*It's wholesome to permit the arts and corp. to be at matched odds with one another. However, monopolizing our arts or retaining fascist like ways to choke them is not favorable for maintaining strong stability within our people or establishing a well respected status as an allied global power.

FAMOUS ACTORS NEED EMPATHY TOO

* Famous actors|artist in Hollywood don't live on a different planet. And they don't need our envy or worship. Being America's symbols of royalty depicting freedom and who are currently being cruelly oppressed they deserve our enthusiastic respect, empathy and supremely active support.

*Corp. is what it is. Being an actor or anyone in any other career field makes no difference in corp. ideology. This gross apathetic foundation is a great cornerstone in it's survival. Actors have to contend with 'The Man' in all aspects same as you and probably more so.

*Corp's campaign to control the arts would have to be dependent on that component of man kind which is uncaring to those living an over indulged lifestyle. After all corp. is responsible for creating and perpetuating the 'rich icing ' upon the 'fake cake' of celebrity-ism. Don't believe it. In addition corp. doesn't publicly say much. They are abnormally quiet as a mouse expect for silently investing in their highly publicized 'red carpet' events.

*The following can be deemed as an accurate definition of most famous actors today. They are gifted artists forced into the stock market and investment business who work as actors to help supplement their income. Have you ever heard the statement, "I'm working as a waiter to be an actor?", which is impossible by the way. It's too exhausting and distracting from the creative environment which an artist must have least their muse and soul wilt.

*Some of our societies greatest actors have quit, never to return because: it's impossible to be a corporate artist (no such thing); the arts have been taken over by oppressive businessmen, 'corporate-land'; it's current economic opportunities can't support the enormous costs necessary for famous actor's to live a safe, peaceful and private family lifestyle, while residing in a small, somewhat isolated city with little economic diversity located in a desert (L.A.) infested by gangs, paparazzi, and crazed celeb-biz fans.

*I mentioned actors deserve empathy too. Do you honestly think that 'The Man' would be so generous as to pay any of us more than just enough to get by with a little bit left over for savings while we swim in credit card interest payments?

*Dude, "all things being relative" doesn't stop at a famous actor's numeric bank balance. Just because their cage has more gold than us common folk who work for 'The Mister', well, it's still a cage. In addition just because actors are contracted to undermine their own free artistic self with the 'red carpet and talk-show, horse and pony act,' doesn't mean that they are the coveted wealthy tycoons which corp. would like you to believe. If one listens closely the actors are telling you different.

CLOSING STATEMENT

*Regarding our arts, and quoting the music group Modest Mouse "this building is totally burning down!" This affects us all, man.

"The biggest fool is one who has all the facts but doesn't know what they mean."
