Tom Cruise Canned From Paramount

Tom Cruise has just gotten the heave ho from Paramount Pictures.

Tom Cruise

Sumner Redstone, chief honcho at Viacom, the parent company of Paramount, has ended the 14-year relationship with Cruise's production company, Cruise/Wagner Productions. According to The Wall Street Journal, Redstone cited Cruise's controversial conduct and behavior over the last year as the reason for the split.

Redstone reportedly believed Cruise's antics -- including his now infamous appearances on "Oprah" and "Today" -- had a negative impact on the bottom line for "Mission Impossible III." Redstone said, "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal." Redstone told The Wall Street Journal: "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."

Cruise/Wagner produced a string of hits for Paramount, including "Top Gun," "Mission Impossible" and "Days of Thunder."

UPDATE: Paula Wagner, Cruise's producing partner, responded angrily, claiming Redstone's comments were "outrageous and disrespectful." Wagner noted that her collaboration with Cruise has accounted for 15% of Paramount's theatrical revenues over the last decade. Wagner added that she and Cruise broke off negotiations with Paramount within the last few days. Finally, Wagner said her company has raised "a revolving fund of $100 million" from two hedge funds and that they will be making movies in the future.

17. Well, well, well, Finally someone in Hollywood had the courage to deal with that mis-fit called Tom Cruise! He and Katy are a disgrace and terrible role models -

18. I applaud Paramount for having the guts to call it quits with Tom Cruise.
Tom has no one to blame but himself, he's been acting like a NUT.

20. You guys are nuts. He acted like an a** and insulted his main audience with that whole Brooke Shields thing. The article states specifically that is was his antics, not money, not the public betraying him. He is getting what he deserves. If only people would pull funding and contracts from the likes of Paris and Lindsay.

23. I think it's sad that film companies base their business and money on what the star's "opinions" are. I mean yeah, Tom has been a FREAK lately, we all know that, and as far as this scientology crap is concerned, in no way should he of all people be pushing that type of religion on the public or anyone else bc first, he is an icon, and second, there is such controversy over it, but the guy has talent. He has made some wonderful movies and it just saddens me that these actors' talent doesn't matter anymore, it's everything else that matters now. We need to get back to the basics. If they've got the talent of acting that he does, book him!

24. It's all about money. If Mission Impossible hadn't bombed this summer his contract would've been renewed. But he jumped on a couch, he made remarks about somethng he knows nothing about personally (has never given birth) and made an ass of himself. Unfortunately the public has not responded in kind and right now he's a leper. So he can go to the moon or wherever those in his cult go to when the expire from earth. Good riddance.

26. lol, hahahahahahahaha. It serves him right for being such a smacked ass. Even though i'm a huge fan of the "Mission Impossible" movies, including part 3, this guy is just acting like total jerk.

27. *sings*: "Happy Days are here again..." lalalalala :-D :-D :-D I'm just sooooo incredibly happy. Cruise is gonna become the next (John) Travolta, man! Hey, maybe he could become the next ELLEN Travolta.

28. Why in the world would Tom Cruise think that we, the public, would find his craziness acceptable! We're all too busy trying to make a living and his goof-ball antics are just not acceptable or funny!!!! I'm disgusted with the bad behavior coming out of Hollywood-----where are the consequences?

Posted at 7:35PM on Aug 22nd 2006 by Stella Marie Rice

29. Personally, I do not like Tom Cruise for his antics and verbal display of his incompetent medical conclusions. However several things: We and Hollywood created this monster, he is a survivor, and he has more money than a city of a million probably. So, we may feel like we're getting back at him with nasty words and our deep-seated jealousy, the last person laughing is Tom -- all the way to the bank. This guy will somehow come out of this bigger than ever, AND he really doesn't give a damned about what we think. Gaud, I'm sooooo jealous!!!!

30. Of course it's about $$!!! Paramount isn't going to want to pay those big bucks to an actor that no one wants to see. Tom blew it, but oh well, he should have a little self control during interviews, and quit making himself look like the ass that he is.
