Tom Cruise Canned From Paramount

Tom Cruise has just gotten the heave ho from Paramount Pictures.

Tom Cruise

Sumner Redstone, chief honcho at Viacom, the parent company of Paramount, has ended the 14-year relationship with Cruise's production company, Cruise/Wagner Productions. According to The Wall Street Journal, Redstone cited Cruise's controversial conduct and behavior over the last year as the reason for the split.

Redstone reportedly believed Cruise's antics -- including his now infamous appearances on "Oprah" and "Today" -- had a negative impact on the bottom line for "Mission Impossible III." Redstone said, "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal." Redstone told The Wall Street Journal: "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."

Cruise/Wagner produced a string of hits for Paramount, including "Top Gun," "Mission Impossible" and "Days of Thunder."

UPDATE: Paula Wagner, Cruise's producing partner, responded angrily, claiming Redstone's comments were "outrageous and disrespectful." Wagner noted that her collaboration with Cruise has accounted for 15% of Paramount's theatrical revenues over the last decade. Wagner added that she and Cruise broke off negotiations with Paramount within the last few days. Finally, Wagner said her company has raised "a revolving fund of $100 million" from two hedge funds and that they will be making movies in the future.

31. As much as I agree with most of the statements listed above for his behavior. I think the best one comes from the retard Allie Kaye, who seems to have the education of a 2 year old with the use of puncuation and capitalization. But the fact still remains that as wierd as Tom Cruise may seem, he has accomplished more than everyone combined on this board. I would also venture to guess everyone on this board would love to be in his shoes, so stop HATING, as the "brothas" say! Late.

32. Maybe he should follow his leader's advise.

"Writing for a penny a word is ridiculous. If a man really wants to make a million dollars, the best way would be to start his own religion"

33. ****WAIT!!!***** I agree that Tom Cruise should have been more private about his religious matters, BUT I don't think he should be put down just because of he jumped on the couch to express his love for Katie. What's wrong with being open about love? Hate is accepted all around the world, but when someone like Tom Cruise falls in love and is so happy and excited about it, he is put down. WHY is that? Does misery love company? Love should be embraces. Can't you people be happy when someone falls in love OR are you miserable and envious only when EVERYBODY is unhappy? Give TOM CRUISE a break. He goes around HELPING people and WHAT do you guys do but mope around and criticize when somebody expresses love and offers his help to strangers. GET A REALITY CHECK on yourselves.

34. Ahhhh...sweet justice. It was so disgusting to watch him proclaim to know so much more than any doctor ever would. His insistence that he understood psychology better than anyone else was ridiculous. Where's your degree Tom? What makes you the expert? A religious opinoin has nothing to do with fact. He used his fame to spread his uneducated opinion and that is not only wrong, it's dangerous. I'm so happy to see that his bottom line has been affected. Perhaps it will prevent him from speaking in the future about matters that he knows absolutely nothing about.

35. Hey Mr. Long Wind,

Before calling someone a retard and berating them on their use of punctuation and capitalization, why don't you proofread you comment? It's weird, not wierd. So "stop the HATING" when it comes to grammar. You obviously aren't an expert, just a lonely Tom Cruise fan. I may not be a movie star, but I am not a lunatic and cult member. I'll take class over money everyday. Tom himself proved that, if you don't have class, you will go nowhere. Money doesn't buy class either. Tom is walking proof of that.

36. His antics hurt the box office of his last two movies. There was more press for his personal life than for the films. He was supposed to promote War of the Worlds and Mission Impossible, not his affair with Katie Holmes or Scientology's views on psychiatry.

He wasn't like this when he was with Nicole and publicist Pat Kingsley. Scientology forced him to "disconnect" from them, took him to some level where he thinks he's a god (literally), and a lot of moviegoers "disconnected" from him.

He's middle-aged and his career was already on a natural descent. He's accelerated that. And his behavior could get worse. He's a bad investment.

He was once a good actor but he's been a movie star for so long he doesn't remember what acting is anymore. No future as a character actor, no legacy as an actor at all.

Run, Katie. Take Suri and get out while you can. Tom's star is plummetng.

37. He has ruined his own career by this comments and actions during televised interviews. He was on the prowl for someone to brainwash into his weird made-up religion. He found a young girl in her 20's to use for that purpose. He believes in a "religion" that teaches that people come from aliens that were spewed from volcanoes around the world. How weird is that? He is grooming his poor children to be future recruiters for Scientology. They use famous people for publicity. You don't see other famous people talking about their religion like the Scientology people. I'm sure that he's made enough $$ over the years that he'll never be in the poor house, but I don't think he'll have to worry about going on anymore big promotion tours for any new movies. What an idiot!!!! He has lost any credibility and respect that he may have ever had before. Young girls, watch out for Tom. When he is tired of Katie, he'll be looking for someone new to ruin.

38. Yes. He had it coming, but I still feel kind of sorry for him.

Now would be the perfect time for him to come out of the closet.

39. Domestic: $133,501,348 34.0%
+ Foreign: $259,660,663 66.0%

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

= Worldwide: $393,162,011

Mission Impossible Total Boxoffice, this movie made money. Granted I think Tom is a little weird, but no stranger than the rest of us. More than likely Tom wanted more control and money thant Paramount was willing to pay.

40. Mr. Long Wind....I don't agree with your opinion so much regarding Tom Cruise and I can't proclaim to have perfect grammar myself, however, most of the people that leave comments on this website can't put an entire sentence together, much less effectively communicate any ideas that might be rambling around in their heads. I can't help but get depressed when I read some of the unintelligible garbage posted here. Please people, take some time to think about what you are saying. Just TRY to be a tiny bit intelligent when composing your thoughts. Your opinion means so much less if all you can do is call someone names and blurt out curse words. It just makes you sound like a guest on the Jerry Springer show.

41. WOW! This is huge...I can't believe they fired him! This guy is considered one of the BIGGEST actors in the world, of all time. I mean, Tom has let his personal life/opinions overshadow his movie-screen persona. Paramount is right that it will be tough for audiences to see anyone other than a Scientology promoting, anti-Psychology spewing; couch-jumping; Baby Suri-hiding nutjob. I feel really bad for him because the guy has given us so many great movies, but he seems to have really come unhinged in the last several years beginning with divorcing Nicole Kidman.

Well, I hope he saved up for this rainy day. Regardless, money can't buy you respect. Poor thing. Poor Katie...she got her "dream man" after he went bonkers.

42. I wonder how much $$ the Church Of Scientology pays him to be their poster boy? It's nice to have some new Tom blogs to read about besides Suri. Those were really funny, but this is good too.

43. I'm sorry, but Tom has made a fortune for Paramount and is one hell of a good guy. You may not agree with his religious beliefs but hey - this is still America. He has a right to his opinion. Has his personal life has turned fans off ? I'm sure of it. But really, if you knew this guy, he's a generous (to a fault) nice nice man. He does not deserve this. Please do not get caught up in all this Tom bashing. Could any of us stand up to the kind of scrutiny that level of star is under? Enjoy his work.;

44. Tom doesn't get paid by Scientology, he pays THEM. From what I understand, you only go "deeper" into that "religion" if you go deeper into your pockets. Literally. You only learn certain "secrets" after you've given a certain amount of money.

45. Now Katie, pull some night time escape footage from past MMI, grab your bags (and any biological spawn that "might" have come to be in April) and high tail it out of there and let him live with his "religion" and that big fat closet he has
felt as in as Linus felt alongside his blanket!!
