Tom Cruise Canned From Paramount

Tom Cruise has just gotten the heave ho from Paramount Pictures.

Tom Cruise

Sumner Redstone, chief honcho at Viacom, the parent company of Paramount, has ended the 14-year relationship with Cruise's production company, Cruise/Wagner Productions. According to The Wall Street Journal, Redstone cited Cruise's controversial conduct and behavior over the last year as the reason for the split.

Redstone reportedly believed Cruise's antics -- including his now infamous appearances on "Oprah" and "Today" -- had a negative impact on the bottom line for "Mission Impossible III." Redstone said, "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal." Redstone told The Wall Street Journal: "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."

Cruise/Wagner produced a string of hits for Paramount, including "Top Gun," "Mission Impossible" and "Days of Thunder."

UPDATE: Paula Wagner, Cruise's producing partner, responded angrily, claiming Redstone's comments were "outrageous and disrespectful." Wagner noted that her collaboration with Cruise has accounted for 15% of Paramount's theatrical revenues over the last decade. Wagner added that she and Cruise broke off negotiations with Paramount within the last few days. Finally, Wagner said her company has raised "a revolving fund of $100 million" from two hedge funds and that they will be making movies in the future.

61. I can seperate Tom the man from Tom the Actor. I loved his pictures. I enjoyed them. As to his personal life he should have kept that to himself. His religion has a level that he had reached that he was supposed to go and preach..too bad...As to his personal life I do not have one word to say about it. ..it is his. I am sorry about all of this. I suspect that Tom will open his own studio and make even more money...go for it Tom..you still have an audience..just keep it quiet what you believe in...its not necessary to inform us.

64. (Allegedly) Comedy Central's SouthPark (owned by Paramount) had to initially pull their spoof of Tom and Scientology or Tom was going resist promoting MI3 (Paramount). Tom and Katie haven't even shown their creature to Entertainment Tonight yet!!! (Paramount). Sumner Redstone, although too conservative for my liking, is a man who built his empire from a single movie theatre in Boston- He finally called, "bullshit" -business or otherwise. It's a relief to know that there are still people with backbone enough to call them as they see them. Good riddance, Tom!

68. AS FOR MR. CRUISE. I DON'T BELIEVE IN UNNESSARY DRUGS AT ALL .........FOR ANYONE !!!! MY MOTHER HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF HOSPITALS FOR YOU MOST OF MY LIFE. SHE HAS TRIED EVERY DRUG THAT DOCTORS RECOMMENDED. TO NO AVAIL. THE ONLY THING THAT WORKED FOR HER IS ECT TREATMENT. SOUNDS HARSH...BUT, BEFORE YOU VOICE YOUR OPINION ..I WOULD INVITE TOM CRUISE TO COME LIVE AT MY MOTHERS HOUSE.. SHE IS COMPLETELY OUT OF IT . SHE WON'T EAT, DRINK OR SPEAK TO ANYONE.WHEN SHE IS HAVING ONE OF HER BREAKDOWNS. HER BLOOD PRESSURE IS SKY HIGH.
AFTER 3 TREATMENTS MY MOTHER BECOMES MY MOTHER AGAIN.
THEY SEDATE HER FOR THE TREATMENTS. SHE FEELS NOTHING. THEY SAY YOU LOSE YOUR MEMORY....THANK GOD SHE HASEN'T
I DO THINK MY MOTHER HIDES ALL OF HER MANY SECRETS....... HANG UPS AND EMOTIONS THAT NO ONE CAN UNLOCK. I JUST THANK GOD FOR THIS TREATMENT,
THAT WORKS FOR HER. IF NOT FOR ECT. MY MOTHER WOULD BE DROOLING IN A CORNER IN SOME MENTAL WARD. WHEN I FIRST HEARD OF ECT. I WAS NOT FOR IT AND WOULD NOT LET HER HAVE IT. SO..THEY TRIED MORE DRUGS. HER BLOOD PRESSURE LOWERED TO A DANGEROUS LEVEL AND SHE BROKE HER HIP. THIS WAS A NIGHTMARE. I DO BELIEVE TOM WANTS TO HELP WITH HIS LIMITED INFORMATION. I ALWAYS SAID "WHEN MY MOTHER HAS ONE OF HER BREAKDOWNS...I WOULD LIKE TO SEND HER OVER TO TOMS HOUSE AND SEE IF HE STILL FELT THE SAME "
REMEMER MR. CRUISE ...YOUR AN ENTERTAINER NOT A DOCTOR OR POLITICIAN. I'M STILL YOUR FAN!

69. I have no idea why you guys are against this guy , so none of you guys act freakish and weird at times? None of you guys have ever stuck your head out of the window screaming, singining, said something stupid, acted silly in class. If you guys never done any of this stuff, frankly, you are the abnormal ones. This man might not be the first choice of a friend 2 hang out with, but i dont think he is as bad as you guys make him appear. The simple fact is he isnt jewish, or else, even if he was born with an illness, he'd still get a job.
peace.

70. Earth to Major Tom -- you're floating in a most peculiar way, there's something wrong. You've never had to deal with reality -- now you're getting a dose of it. Hey, maybe now you could use a Vallium.

73. 40 mill a movie?? I don't know anybody who's "work" is worth that.. especially not an actor. He deserves to be humbled. To bad we can't throw all of Hollywood in there with him.

74. Katie needs to run home to her parents before it is too late to raise the child in a normal, loving and natural environment. I think Tom lost it when "Goose" died. He never recovered - but Katie can. Forget the luggage - run for your safety Katie!!!

75. Is this a oxymoron statement? I think his point was we don't need to be corrected by every "putz" that thinks he needs to feel superior by pointing out some else’s mistakes. Putz!

>>It's "putz" as in jerk not "putts" as in golf!!! You're as bad as the grammar police...
