Tom Cruise Canned From Paramount

Tom Cruise has just gotten the heave ho from Paramount Pictures.

Tom Cruise

Sumner Redstone, chief honcho at Viacom, the parent company of Paramount, has ended the 14-year relationship with Cruise's production company, Cruise/Wagner Productions. According to The Wall Street Journal, Redstone cited Cruise's controversial conduct and behavior over the last year as the reason for the split.

Redstone reportedly believed Cruise's antics -- including his now infamous appearances on "Oprah" and "Today" -- had a negative impact on the bottom line for "Mission Impossible III." Redstone said, "As much as we like him personally, we thought it was wrong to renew his deal." Redstone told The Wall Street Journal: "His recent conduct has not been acceptable to Paramount."

Cruise/Wagner produced a string of hits for Paramount, including "Top Gun," "Mission Impossible" and "Days of Thunder."

UPDATE: Paula Wagner, Cruise's producing partner, responded angrily, claiming Redstone's comments were "outrageous and disrespectful." Wagner noted that her collaboration with Cruise has accounted for 15% of Paramount's theatrical revenues over the last decade. Wagner added that she and Cruise broke off negotiations with Paramount within the last few days. Finally, Wagner said her company has raised "a revolving fund of $100 million" from two hedge funds and that they will be making movies in the future.

91. It's about time people start to see him for who he really is. If you don't have his beliefs than your all wrong. He's not God and it's about time someone told him so.

93. It's about time someone gave this freak a heave-ho. I hate these people that think they can take their popularity and try to push their beliefs onto everyone else and expect them to follow. Bye, Bye Tommy!! I just hope that Katie comes back to reality and realizes that she is just a show piece to him. You are not the most powerful actor in the world, savvy?

95. You've got to dig where Tom is coming from. He was a runty, chipped-toothed, poor kid who sat in class and was terrified that he'd be called on, because he didn't have a clue as to what was going on, which is because he's also ADD and downright dumb. Now, fast forward to him being a mega-star, A-list, leading man who has hundreds of millions of dollars. Now Tom thinks that he is an oracle and a font of wisdom. He believes that he has really become a hero and that we worship him as much as he worships himself. While Tom was once afraid to speak, now he won't shut up. Oh yea, and he's still a runt.

96. Wow...what a bunch of jealous people. Regardless of his unusual behavior he is still far more talented than any of the haters on here. In fact I will go as far as to say not one poster here has ever done a movie that topped the box office charts or even did one period! Jealousy is a dirty bitch.

98. 100 million is not a lot of money. Most big sized studio films are 100 million+ and that is without marketing costs. It's safe to say, any new Cruise films won't be big budget ones and will be underexposed. Maybe there is a studio out there crazy or desperate enough to take on his production company *cough*Warner Brothers*cough*.

101. the studio didn't fire him, they just didn't resign him to a contract. and if you use medication to "cure" mental illness, you are not curing anything. your brain is being tricked to think "normal" that might have been what he was trying to say.

102. It is too bad because he is a really good actor. But he needs to learn when you start flapping your gums like a maniac there will be negative backlash.

105. Oh, ye of little faith... and short memory... you kid yourselves if you think Tom Cruise has no future in films. Have you forgotten that you can molest small children and still make a comeback?

Tom has been arrogant and obnoxious and overbearing and pushy and a religious know-it-all but he makes excellent movies and he will go from Paramount to another studio or he will do Independent films and bankroll them himself.

The American public has a phenominal capacity for celebrity sewage and Hollywood will keep pouring it out as long as we keep paying money for it. It keeps us from wasting our tiny brains on insignificant things like Islam's plan to eliminate all non-Muslims from the earth or Mexico's plan to re-claim California and the Southwest while they simultaneously bankrupt this country. We will keep our eye on Brad and Angelina's latest escapades while democracy is irradicated.

Those I find more offensive than Cruise and his high-school freshman, love-struck behavior are the Natalie Maines and George Clooneys and Richard Geres who presume to know more about international policy than Harvard poly-sci grads and more about military strategy than 4-star Generals. Just act and sing and dance and whatever else you are paid to do but please refrain from using your high-profile positions to air your opinions on subjects you know absolutely nothing about.
