Mel Phones Jews -- "I'm Really Sorry"

Mel GibsonMel Gibson has decided to make good with the Jewish community, one Jew at a time.

TMZ has learned that Gibson has been calling entertainment industry honchos with whom he's worked in the past and apologizing for his anti-Semitic rant the morning of his DUI arrest.

Two of the people he called, who wish to remain anonymous, say Gibson told them that he wanted them to know that he was really sorry and he was working on his "problem." Gibson also said that he hoped he would be able to work with them again.

"...he wanted them to know that he was really sorry and he was working on his 'problem.'"

The two people who gave the debrief on Gibson's conversation to TMZ say that they were less than moved by the actor's apology. One said he was civil to Gibson but was unconvinced that Gibson has changed his stripes.

Gibson has declined offers to speak before larger groups. His publicist says the actor is consumed with his recovery at the moment and cannot deal with other matters until he gets his life under control.

It is unclear why Gibson began making the calls, however his rep has told TMZ that his client was in a recovery program, which includes a 12-step program to sobriety. Step #9 is making amends. If Gibson is on Step #9, he clearly is on the fast track.

31. TMZ is full of vindictive putzes. Funny how they only pick certain people to rail against.

32. Actually Amy I like a lot of black people dont use the "n" word all the time. I'm probally older than you, I'm 39 so the word has a different meaning to my generation than it does yours. I was raised to believe that we all make mistakes. We all say and do things we dont mean. Life is too short too harbor hate, FORGIVE just as you would want someone to forgive you.

33. Yep, but I do not live in the public eye. That is a choice HE made.

34. It's "funny" how your sources are always "anonymous" !
"anonymous" or ... cowards ?
now, if those so nice people are only two not trusting what Mel said to them (IF he has phoned to them...), well, that's fantastic ! Considering how many jewish people work in the industry, Mel does pretty well, !
And, another thing, I think it's normal for those "two people who gave the debrief on Gibson's conversation to TMZ" to be "less than moved by the actor's apology. if not, this "source" would have never talked to TMZ about that !
Now, still the same, I bet the point here is : what is TMZ agenda ?
Why such hate against Mel ?
Sounds like really personal. Nothing else.
But sorry, sounds also really... low. Not much more than a tabloid level.
And for those who are asking, but then, why are you writing here ? Not because I read TMZ or tabloid, but because I hate to know they are doing this to someone who has done so much for the public for so long, so much for lots of associations and kids, and people seem here to forget it suddenly .
TMZ is not right in his war against Mel Gibson. And if M. Levin really wants to be usefull, I urge him to fight for really good causes (like fighting against the SIDA, or starvation in the world etc etc etc).

So, leave the man alone.

PS : and if you don't like my English, sorry, this is not my first language.

35. To all posters--
I would think that all of us have made a mistake somewhere in our life that we truly regret (whether you want to admit it or not!), but I see some of you here just beating up Mel Gibson here in your postings and acting as if you are some perfect saints. I don't give a CRAP if you are Jewish or not, it gives you absolutely NO right to call the kettle black. I am sick and SO tired of our society using the race card to get up on your damn soap box and start pointing your finger at every one else. He has apologized and continues to apologize. Get the hell over it.

36. Not only is Mel full of crap, and STILL ever the prototypical anti-Semite, but so are those who support him and make apologies, excuses, whatever for him. But no problem obtrudes: We Jews have survived much worse over the centuries than the likes of Mel Gibson and that no good bastard hate-monger father of his. I wonder if Mel's wife will leave him, now that she's seen pictures of drunken Mel with his arms draped round the shouders of a pair of trulls. Or is she as much the racist as he? If so, they deserve each other. And to one and all who are taken in by his "apologies," all I can say is--UP YOURS!

37. Who hasn't said stupid things when they were drunk? Mel is an admitted alcoholic. If we are to believe what he said when he was drunk and vilify him for the rest of his life; then we should do no less to others when they get drunk and spout off about anything. Remember, forgive and forget.

41. ALYN-

What about the African Americans? What about the Japanese? What about the POOR? Let's see here Alyn, you have NEVER EVER EVER said or did anything wrong in your poor Jewish life? 44. #9 he hates gay people too. Maybe he needs to visit the Holocaust Museam in DC. and do it without telling the press, so it won't look like a PR stunt. he ought to visit the concentration camps in Poland and Germany, maybe he should be locked in auzwitz for a night and have the ghosts get to him, like an old twilight zone epsode I once saw.

45. If Mel Gibson is doing the 9th step already, he's taking the elevator, not the stairs to achieve sobriety. Those who 'complete' (never happens) the 12 step program in record time fall the fastest. Watch for his next crash, and I don't necessarily mean 'car crash' soon, Jew-hater or not. The adage 'There is truth in wine' doesn't really matter. The longer he works on his sobriety, the better the chances to change his whole view of life.

His 'apology' was an attempt to appease Hollywood moguls and salvage his star status. But 'Fake it until you make it' has worked for many in recovery who achieved a 180 degree turnaound in their prejudices. Give him time to heal. Alcoholics don't change overnight.

Still working on recovery after 23 years of sobriety. It's a life-long job.
