Najimy Says Auf Wiedersehen to "Project Runway"

Kathy NajimyKathy Najimy won't be watching "Project Runway" anymore.

The former "Veronica's Closet" star is upset with "dangerous" comments made by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn on last week's episode pertaining to plus-size women.

Najimy, who over the years has lost 160 lbs, sent a passionate e-mail to Bravo exec Andy Cohen, who is a friend of Kathy's, outlining her grievances with the episode, which Cohen has since posted on his blog.

Kathy took particular issue with Gunn calling one of the runway models "zaftig" (pleasantly plump) and Heidi's comment that an outfit made a model look plus-size, which Najimy believes implied that plus-size was "the ultimate of horrors."

In the e-mail Najimy points out how these comments, along with societal pressure to be thin, are particularly harmful to the body images of young girls.

Najimy adds "And I especially hope that Heidi Klum's beautiful daughter never has to grow up in the self-hatred and self-mutilation that occurs when girls and women are suffocated by irresponsible, dangerous comments like the ones Heidi made..."

On his blog, Cohen came to Klum's defense by saying "Heidi cares a lot about little girls watching the show and about the image that we project."

Last night's episode lightly touched on the topic by having the contestants design everyday outfits for "everyday women" and featured the designers' own mothers and sisters as models.

While Kathy may not be watching anymore episodes, by the looks of "Project Runway's" plus-size ratings this year, it looks like everybody else sure is!

31. To be plus, or not to be plus. That is the question? Aww, heck. Does it really matter? Half these clothes the designers make will never be worn by the "normal" woman anyway. And if a star is caught wearing something that you might find in Style or Vogue magazine that might be a little eccentric, the caption would most naturally be "would you be caught dead in this outfit?" All I have to say is, they sure do confuse the heck out of me.

32. I agree with Najimy. I was a pretty shocked when the judges were commenting on who should be given the boot. Heidi made a comment about nobody including herself wanting to look like a "fat pig". That was after the plus size comment. Granted there are health issues related to being overweight, but the point is, ruining someone's self esteem is not going to make them thinner. Everyday I have to see the images of size 0's and 2's so I dont need to hear that if I'm not wearing a single digit size then I'm a "fat pig" and everyone is grossed by how I look. I just think her comments were a little tasteless and inappropriate.

33. Heidi's daughter won't have to deal with that crap because Heidi won't let her daughter stuff her pie hole with ho-ho's and she'll make sure she gets some exercise. With very few exceptions, if your fat, its your fault and you deserve to be made fun of for your lack of self disipline. Lose some weight fattys. Then Heidi's comments won't be offensive anymore.

34. Okay, what should she have said? Large, overweight, big? What? The simple truth is that a dress is not supposed to make a slender woman look large. I'll bet that just about, oh, say....100% of the women buy dress that make them look slimmer say.....100% of the time. Klum was being objective and honest as to the tastes of consumers, large and small. I congratulate Kathy for losing 160 pds. We can assume that she was doing it for her health, but can anyone dispute that she was also losing weight for apperance sake as well? I'll tell you what Kathy, when you are down to a trim size 7, let me know when you seek our a dress maker for th Oscars that makes you look like a size 14....then tell me you like the dress. C'mon....

35. Heidi sounds like a real bitch. Its great that she is blessed with great genes and I do realize that the show is about modeling but come on! Does she realize how many girls and women watch that show? She should concentrate more on not making completely idiotic comments that affect our youth and less on who isn't as skinny as her!

36. Where the f*ck is this average size of 14 or 16 coming from?? I don't think I've ever known a single person who wears those sizes. I don't think I've ever known a single person whose been bigger than a size 10 and she had a thyroid problem. Is this the average for all women or only women over a certain age, because if I had a friend my own age, which is 30 and she was a 14, I would be really concerned about her. Mainly because of her health. Being overweight puts you at risk for diabetes, heart attacks, joint deterioration. I think it's awful that they are perpertrating that 14 is an average size, it's like saying it's okay to be overweight because everyone else is. And before you all freak out, my friends and I eat normally, at least three meals a day, I just don't eat Mc Donalds everyday. And I do yoga and jog maybe twice a week. It's not hard to maintain a healthy weight if you eat good foods.

37. Paige you're talking out your rear Heidi's measurements are 35-24-34, that is not even an 8 or a 10. It's more like a 2.

38. Jamie

I agree, be the size you want to be but dont cry about it the size you are when people critize the # of the size you wear. you dont like it oh well. change it, happy with it then ignore what is said.

maybe kathy should go on celebrity fit club.

i was a 22 and appauled that i looked like i did, i am now a 4/6 and love it. i can have just as much bad health as an over weight person but at least i dont look ridiculous in todays fashions as the over weight, obese women do who try to look in style and arent.

41. Right, like if Kathy Najimy went shopping and tried on an outfit that made her look bigger than she is she wouldn't reject it? I guess that's ok as long as no one tells her it makes her look "zaftig" or fat or whatever euphemism you choose. Heidi Klum is a model who calls herself "the body" and you expect her not to think like a model on a show about fashion with 9 runway models? Come on, be realistic. Last night's episode proved the point that designers do not design their clothes for big people (i.e. Jeff and Robert being dismayed at never having worked with large proportions). Does everyone remember the episode where Allison got booted? She got stuck with the biggest (not fattest, biggest) model of the bunch by far and then had to pull something together out of TRASH when her original outfit (made out of TRASH) did not work. Given more time she would have tailored the outfit for the model but having a time limit is part of the challenge. The true irony is that while Heidi and Tim are seen as pariahs for saying that an outfit made a big girl look bigger on PR, BRAVO is airing "weight loss week" with shows like Workout and the weight loss episode of Queer Eye, essentially applauding big people for getting thin! Mmm-kay?

42. #40 I live in Chicago. And honestly I wear a 4-6, depending on the time of
month. I retain a lot of water before my period, whatever. I'm 5'6, if
you're telling me that a person who is twice my size is considered
healthy, I find that hard to believe. Sure there's different bone
structure and we all wear clothes differently, someone make look just
as good in a 8 as I do in a 4 or 6, but a 12, that's a huge
difference. For me to wear a 12 I would have to gain a minimum of
15-20 pounds. That's a lot of weight, and if I had to strap that
weight on myself right now and walk to the end of the block, I would
not feel comfortable, if I had to live with that extra weight, I
would not feel healthy. Check your friends tags, they're not a 12, or
they are 6 foot tall bodybuilders which I can't comment on because I
don't know any.

43. Sorry. I don't care what anyone says. Plump-to-fat is not attractive. I believe the majority of females (even the overweight ladies), if they could, would choose to be skinny for the rest of their life instead of being rich. That's just the way it is.

44. #40 - Much like #36 I also dont know anyone (age 20-35) over a size 10. I live in San Francisco, where people have to walk their asses to get where they need to go, and work 12 hours a day with a 1/2 hour lunchbreak. This doesnt mean that I havent SEEN people that are over a size 10, I just dont know them personally. City life is conducive to a healthier lifestyle in general, and yes, there are many people out there who simply do not encounter people over a size 10 in their daily lives.

Dont shoot the messenger...you cant criticize someone for simply NOT KNOWING people who are over a size 10...it happens.

45. And I never said a 2 was healthy, we have a friend who buys a 2 but has to have it altered because she's so small and we all freak out about her, because she looks gross. She ignores all of our advice. We can't help her if she doesn't help herself.
