Meredith Calls "The View" A "Joke"

Meredith VieieraHow about this for a hot topic: Meredith Vieira now says that her old show "The View" is "hard to watch," that she got "blasé" about it after nine years, and even that it "sort of became a joke" after she left.

All of which should provide fodder for an interesting discussion when the current "View"-ers -- Barbara, Joy, Elisabeth, and, of course, Rosie -- get back to the studio next week.

The new "Today" show co-host disses her old colleagues on the ABC show in an interview with Time magazine, saying that she hasn't watched the show at all since she took off, except for the day after Star Jones announced she was "leaving." Even though the show has been garnering stellar ratings, Vieira says she thinks it's "very sad" what's happened to it. "I'm proud of the work we did there, but it's not a good time in the history of the show," says Meredith. "It's hard to watch. It sort of became a joke."

Vieira also adds that she's not overly excited about the hours at her new gig: "I'm not somebody who loves getting up at 4 in the morning, so this might kill me, but we'll see."

Cruise Gets Award for What He Didn't Say

Tom Cruise has been getting plenty of flak – and, last week, fired – for his remarks on psychiatry, on Katie Holmes, and plenty of other topics, but now he's been given an award in Australia for a possibly sexist comment that he didn't even make.

A gathering of 400 of Australia's most powerful women, reports People, bestowed the title of "Worst Derogatory Public Statement" on Cruise for supposedly saying, "I've got Katie tucked away so no one will get to us until my child is born." The only problem is that he didn't say it. Says his rep, "Anyone who knows him knows that he is a complete gentleman and would never ever say such a thing ... He has the utmost respect for women."

Wahlberg Sort of "Invincible" at Weekend Box

Mark Wahlberg's Rocky-on-the-gridiron football saga "Invincible" did good enough business to beat the competition in theaters over the weekend with an estimated $17 million. The triumph represents yet aother strong showing for a jock-flick released by Buena Vista, joining "Miracle" and "The Rookie" as notable successes.

"Talladega Nights" came in second place with $8 million, while indie darling "Little Miss Sunshine" continued to pick up speed, with $7.5 million to land it in third place. Several other new releases included "Beerfest," which chugged its way to fourth place with just $6.5 million, while OutKast's film debut, "Idlewild," performed more strongly than expected with $5.9 million in less than 1,000 locations.

Party Favors: Paris Mad At Ricky Gervais, Keith Richards in Trouble for Smoking, Spider-Man 3 Needs More Action

Paris Hilton is apparently miffed that Ricky Gervais, creator of the original "Office," passed her over for a cameo role on HBO's "Extras." The lodging heiress apparently asked Gervais for a plum cameo on the show, but he refused, causing her no end of grief. "I guess he's obviously scarred of starring alongside an A-lister," said Hilton to the San Francisco Chronicle ... Keith Richards may have to pay a whopping $90 fine for smoking on stage in Glasgow, says the BBC, where smoking is banned in all public places. The Rolling Stones guitarist and his bandmates allegedly puffed away throughout the performance last Friday ... "Spider-Man 3" is going back for reshoots, says co-star James Franco, after test audiences decided they needed more action. The actor tells MTV, "The next thing I'm shooting? Re-shoots on "Spider-Man" ... Probably next month. Director Sam Raimi wants more action." The third installment of the superhero series is scheduled to be in theaters next summer.

61. Katie Couric was a blast of sunshine and a shot of fresh squeezed orange juice in the morning. Meredith, however, is about as exciting and interesting as a bowl of room temp, day old oatmeal. I just can't fathom what NBC was thinking when they chose her. The woman truly appears to be on sedatives. Booooooring. I'm watching CNN from now on. In fact, NBC should've picked Anderson Cooper to sit next to Matt!! LOL He'd have ROCKED!!

62. How sad that Cambel Brown did not get the placement on the TODAY SHOW. This other woman only got it because of Barbara Walters, so she should be thankful. She is MUCH too old to be sitting alongside Matt. Bad mistake on TODAY's part.

63. I don't watch the view but it is ashame how it seems to be a cat fight on tv. And it isn't even on Pay per view...

64. The young blonde bimbo lacks depth of thought, is whiny, inexperienced in WAY too many areas to mention here and dresses so terribly poorly that it creates serious eye pollution on that side of the table. I applaud Joy for her restraint as she has to sit in such close proximity to that idiot child. Barbara needs to cut her losses and get rid of "Miss Yuppy-puppy!!! You're sharper than that, Barbara. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and admit you made a serious mistake with the blonde. Let her "survive" somewhere else. I have concerns about Rosie. But I am hoping that she can learn to share and play well with others.

65. I WAS SO SHOCKED WHEN I READ ALL THE STUFF MERIDETH SAID ABOUT THE VIEW. IT'S TRUE THE VIEW IS NOT THE SAME SINCE SHE LEFT BUT HEY, WE ALL SHOULD GIVE ROSIE AND THE REST OF THE GIRLS A CHANCE BEFORE WE CAST JUDGEMENT UPON THE WHOLE THING. I THINK MERIDETH WILL DO GREAT ONCE SHE GETS HER FEET IN THE DOOR AND FINDS WHAT WORKS FOR HER ON THE TODAY SHOW... SHE HAS MY BLESSING AND SHE WILL BE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AS SHE CONQUERS HER NEW HORIZONS WITH "TODAY"

67. i always loved meridith. i've always thought she was the perfect choice to replace katie. i am so dissapointed that she would say mean things about the view which was really her jumping board into her being the t.v. personality she became.poor barbara, she has done an excellent job keeping the show exciting and stimulating. i have no doubts that "ROSIE" will be a teriffic asset to the show. i look forward to viewing her everyday.

68. Meredith might have those particular feelings towards the show, but the classy thing to do is be polite and remember that "The View" put her on the map and gave her a hefty paycheck along with good exposure. She is right in the sense that "The View" is a joke, especially when the Elizabeth crying, whining, unread, immature baby came on board. Elizabeth brings nothing to the show but childish ranting.

69. Merideth's comments do not surprise me. She had become rather blase', seeming to have lost her spunk in the last few months. Perhaps it was due to her pondering the question of what career choice to make. She will not last on her new gig. She's too laid back to the point of being lazy! BUT, then her predecessor will not make it on her new evening news gig either.

I have comented on here several time that we could wave bye-bye- to The View.

Barbara is somebody I always respected but I now see her as a demented loon.
I'll never have any respect for her again and will not ever watch any of her specials. She treated Star like crap and then kissed up to Deborah M. as co-host when she had dissed Deb for years. Two faced old cow!!! She has totally lost it!

At least Elisabeth has morals and does not mind letting everybody know. Call her a dum-dum, but she is HONEST which nobody else on that show is. I wish she would leave the show too, but I want her to leave to save face and not drown when the ship goes down and it IS gonna go down! No time for life boats!!!

Merideth, why don't you tell everybody the entire truth about your old gang? I'd be glad to get out of there also.

70. Well well well...first they bash the Jews, and want instant forgiveness..Living in Hollywood sure was a great learning experience for me...People never remember the good anyone does, just the bad...Rermember the common folks thrive off of gossip; I know I was a secret behind the scene writer for the Globe/Star & Enquier...Look what happened to Debra Norville... There are the same results but just different faces...But really who has time if you work and have a JOB to watch the View?? I just have barely enough time to catch Kelly Ripa for a few seconds [and that is just to see what she threw on for the day anyways] before I hit the job...So to all the extremists who actually care what she said, I suggest you grab a $6.00 starbucks in Malibu at Cross Creek to really get into what the satrs are talking about! Go Mel Gibson...A list means party invite status...not Movie rating FYI...more next time! :0)

71. READ THE TIME ARTICLE, PEOPLE!!!

Ms. Vieira’s remarks about “The View” were intended to refer to the media attention and circus-like atmosphere surrounding the show in recent months; not the show itself. She assures TIME that in no way were her comments meant to be insensitive or derogatory about a program she takes great pride in having built and been associated with for the last nine years.

72. Again this TMZ.com puts in Half the story or parts of the story that will cause a rile. It is not mentioned that there was a FULL interview with Meridith and she was ASKED the question about 'the View' and answered it....along with MANY other questions NOT having to do with 'The View.'

Please read the real interview from Time.com before making comments about something that you think you might know about that is coming from this TMZ tabloid online. This is not the first time I have read TMZ.com only to find that they fix the stories so that people will feel a certain way. It is as bad as the tabloids at the supermarket.

The other thing I find interesting is that AOL has its name right at the top of this TMZ.com page. Also, that people will read things online without knowing where the information came from and start responding without complete knowledge. Ridiculous.

73. Funny how everyone knows about The View. Listen it is views and opinions from different type of women, so you don't like it change the channel, stop your whining. And you talk about them talking over each other, Ha Ha all of you make me laugh because if it was possible to put all of you at a table at the same time with your comments, views and opinions I believe you to would be chatting over each other also.
Now what Meredith is doing is just a business tacktic, keeps her in the public eye, it's just part of that type of business.
Don't get me wrong I don't care for some of the ladies ways and opinions but that is why I watch it, because of the different outlooks and I can laugh at the ones that I find some times annoying but that is TV people. I can't wait to see what Rosie brings to the table and I also think they need another lady to fill Star Jones spot. To bad Tyra Banks got her own show I think she would have been great.

74. Meredith Viera will never be Katie I too agree Ann,Campbell,or Natile should have replaced Katie. I don't watch the show now and won't watch it with what her face. Sorry I do miss the other people but she just makes me sick all "fake Bubbly and smile" Katie was for real.

75. Once Meridith Viera left as moderator the show went down the tubes. Barbara Walters is a bitch who should retire especially with her choice of loud obnoxious Rosie. The only one left with good sence is Elizabeth and I'm sure Babs is working on getting rid of her because she embarassed her. Once a loyal fan of the show but no longer. Take it off the air and put something good in it's place.
