Lets Get This Party Started
Meredith Calls "The View" A "Joke"

Meredith VieieraHow about this for a hot topic: Meredith Vieira now says that her old show "The View" is "hard to watch," that she got "blasé" about it after nine years, and even that it "sort of became a joke" after she left.

All of which should provide fodder for an interesting discussion when the current "View"-ers -- Barbara, Joy, Elisabeth, and, of course, Rosie -- get back to the studio next week.

The new "Today" show co-host disses her old colleagues on the ABC show in an interview with Time magazine, saying that she hasn't watched the show at all since she took off, except for the day after Star Jones announced she was "leaving." Even though the show has been garnering stellar ratings, Vieira says she thinks it's "very sad" what's happened to it. "I'm proud of the work we did there, but it's not a good time in the history of the show," says Meredith. "It's hard to watch. It sort of became a joke."

Vieira also adds that she's not overly excited about the hours at her new gig: "I'm not somebody who loves getting up at 4 in the morning, so this might kill me, but we'll see."

Cruise Gets Award for What He Didn't Say

Tom Cruise has been getting plenty of flak – and, last week, fired – for his remarks on psychiatry, on Katie Holmes, and plenty of other topics, but now he's been given an award in Australia for a possibly sexist comment that he didn't even make.

A gathering of 400 of Australia's most powerful women, reports People, bestowed the title of "Worst Derogatory Public Statement" on Cruise for supposedly saying, "I've got Katie tucked away so no one will get to us until my child is born." The only problem is that he didn't say it. Says his rep, "Anyone who knows him knows that he is a complete gentleman and would never ever say such a thing ... He has the utmost respect for women."

Wahlberg Sort of "Invincible" at Weekend Box

Mark Wahlberg's Rocky-on-the-gridiron football saga "Invincible" did good enough business to beat the competition in theaters over the weekend with an estimated $17 million. The triumph represents yet aother strong showing for a jock-flick released by Buena Vista, joining "Miracle" and "The Rookie" as notable successes.

"Talladega Nights" came in second place with $8 million, while indie darling "Little Miss Sunshine" continued to pick up speed, with $7.5 million to land it in third place. Several other new releases included "Beerfest," which chugged its way to fourth place with just $6.5 million, while OutKast's film debut, "Idlewild," performed more strongly than expected with $5.9 million in less than 1,000 locations.

Party Favors: Paris Mad At Ricky Gervais, Keith Richards in Trouble for Smoking, Spider-Man 3 Needs More Action

Paris Hilton is apparently miffed that Ricky Gervais, creator of the original "Office," passed her over for a cameo role on HBO's "Extras." The lodging heiress apparently asked Gervais for a plum cameo on the show, but he refused, causing her no end of grief. "I guess he's obviously scarred of starring alongside an A-lister," said Hilton to the San Francisco Chronicle ... Keith Richards may have to pay a whopping $90 fine for smoking on stage in Glasgow, says the BBC, where smoking is banned in all public places. The Rolling Stones guitarist and his bandmates allegedly puffed away throughout the performance last Friday ... "Spider-Man 3" is going back for reshoots, says co-star James Franco, after test audiences decided they needed more action. The actor tells MTV, "The next thing I'm shooting? Re-shoots on "Spider-Man" ... Probably next month. Director Sam Raimi wants more action." The third installment of the superhero series is scheduled to be in theaters next summer.

78. Oh Meredith, what the heck happened to you. I think you shedded one too many tears (ya faking "B"). You always thought you were so superior than the rest of your "buddies" (sniff, sniff) it ALWAYS came across the viewing audience that way! The few problems I do have with the View is Elisabeth really should Gooooooooooooo, and Barbara really needs to practice on sitting onto a chair that has pillows. I wait just for that moment after they all walk out together (kiss, kiss) and watch Miss Walters TRY to sit down. What is that all about??????? I love, love, love Joy, she is the BEST and can't wait for Rosie on Sept. 5th!!!!!!!

81. SO PATHETIC! I don't know which is worse-- the piece that slants Vieira's comments on The View in the first place...or the people who comment without bothering to follow the link to the actual Time magazine quotes- IN CONTEXT!

First, don't you people know enough not to trust the way gossip stories in particular are presented? Don't you know that the quality of 'reporting' these days, even supposedly factual news, is non-existent? It's all about getting the suckers (You) to pay to read sensational lies. Vieira doesn't need to be bitchy.
She's made it this far by being herself-- kind, intelligent, honest..and that added a positive quality to The View. (The show started out with intelligent conversation from women of different age groups, a change from the usual 'women's shows'. Unfortunately, the usual crap got added-- fashion, make-up, silly sex conversations-- later on, probably to build ratings.)

I don't know why some of you- who obviously weren't regular viewers- feel the need to be so nasty, gleefully jumping on statements out of context, giving the wrong impression. More fun than clicking on the link and reading what Vieira ACTUALLY said and meant, huh?

From TIME, obviously added at Vieira's request, to clarify- before the low-minded twisted her meaning:

"Editor’s Note: Ms. Vieira’s remarks about “The View” were intended to refer to the media attention and circus-like atmosphere surrounding the show in recent months; not the show itself. She assures TIME that in no way were her comments meant to be insensitive or derogatory about a program she takes great pride in having built and been associated with for the last nine years."

But no one in our sick-and-getting-sicker culture wants to read the truth, especially if it's nice...Just know that every nasty jab adds to the ugliness out there, making it worse for future generations who start out innocent and 'nice'.
And know that you DON'T HAVE TO join the sleazy and add to the ugliness.

83. I think the view is taking a dive. Rosie is going to ruin it (power struggle) and now with Star gone (because of Rosie) I just do not believe the show will be worth watching.

84. I believe Ms Viera's comments were taken out of context. She was referring to the media circus resulting in Ms Reynold's exit from "The View"--not the actual show. Shame on you all and the TMZ staff for believing this negative spin. I guess the negative spin more intriguing for most than the truth.

85. I think Rosie is going to fire up the view. Barbara should retire. The show is better without Barbara. Elizabeth should not judge everyone to her standard, about marriage or child bearing. I love Joy maybe it could be come the Rosie and Joy show. M.

86. Poor thing, not a 4 in the morning person!?!? For her salary, she can get her lazy ass out of bed. Talk about tacky and ungrateful.. The View (which I would not watch even if I was tied to a chair in front of my tv) is the only reason anyone even knows who she is.

87. What is it with TMZ that everything that bubblehead Hilton says is "news." Most of the stuff she says is arrogant ,stupid and uninformed. So she thinks she's an A-lister? Well, maybe on the A-list of biggest no-talents in America.

As far as Meredith V. : Her comments were taken out of context. But she's right. The last few months of that show were a "joke" with Babawawa's actions,Star Jones' actions and the comments of Rosie the Cow . The best thing ABC can do is cancel this trainwreck.

88. Viera isn't biting the hand that fed her..That hand went away when they brought in Elisabeth and O'Donnell. It has become a joke. It has turned the respectable show she was a part of building into Jerry Springer-worthy garbage. I'd diss it too.

Paris is another joke..I love what someone else wrote, about being an A-cup, not an A-lister. My favourtie from her is when she forced everyone at the Playboy mansion to hear her Marilyn Monroe impression of Happy Birthday, and suddenly she's making comments about how she is the Marilyn Monroe of our generation...F*cking hilarious...For that to be true, most people would have to actually like her, and I don't forsee that ever happening.

89. Since Meredith and Star left the View is nothing. With Rosie coming I'm sure it will just become the Rosie O'Donnell Show again. I will not be watching it anymore. Barbara as a steady diet is just too much. I wish the best for Star and Meredith already has it. Good Luck to Both!

90. I was happy for Meredith but am very disappointed to find that she has so little class. I personally think Campbell Brown would've been a great replacement for Katie......
