Lets Get This Party Started
Meredith Calls "The View" A "Joke"

Meredith VieieraHow about this for a hot topic: Meredith Vieira now says that her old show "The View" is "hard to watch," that she got "blasé" about it after nine years, and even that it "sort of became a joke" after she left.

All of which should provide fodder for an interesting discussion when the current "View"-ers -- Barbara, Joy, Elisabeth, and, of course, Rosie -- get back to the studio next week.

The new "Today" show co-host disses her old colleagues on the ABC show in an interview with Time magazine, saying that she hasn't watched the show at all since she took off, except for the day after Star Jones announced she was "leaving." Even though the show has been garnering stellar ratings, Vieira says she thinks it's "very sad" what's happened to it. "I'm proud of the work we did there, but it's not a good time in the history of the show," says Meredith. "It's hard to watch. It sort of became a joke."

Vieira also adds that she's not overly excited about the hours at her new gig: "I'm not somebody who loves getting up at 4 in the morning, so this might kill me, but we'll see."

Cruise Gets Award for What He Didn't Say

Tom Cruise has been getting plenty of flak – and, last week, fired – for his remarks on psychiatry, on Katie Holmes, and plenty of other topics, but now he's been given an award in Australia for a possibly sexist comment that he didn't even make.

A gathering of 400 of Australia's most powerful women, reports People, bestowed the title of "Worst Derogatory Public Statement" on Cruise for supposedly saying, "I've got Katie tucked away so no one will get to us until my child is born." The only problem is that he didn't say it. Says his rep, "Anyone who knows him knows that he is a complete gentleman and would never ever say such a thing ... He has the utmost respect for women."

Wahlberg Sort of "Invincible" at Weekend Box

Mark Wahlberg's Rocky-on-the-gridiron football saga "Invincible" did good enough business to beat the competition in theaters over the weekend with an estimated $17 million. The triumph represents yet aother strong showing for a jock-flick released by Buena Vista, joining "Miracle" and "The Rookie" as notable successes.

"Talladega Nights" came in second place with $8 million, while indie darling "Little Miss Sunshine" continued to pick up speed, with $7.5 million to land it in third place. Several other new releases included "Beerfest," which chugged its way to fourth place with just $6.5 million, while OutKast's film debut, "Idlewild," performed more strongly than expected with $5.9 million in less than 1,000 locations.

Party Favors: Paris Mad At Ricky Gervais, Keith Richards in Trouble for Smoking, Spider-Man 3 Needs More Action

Paris Hilton is apparently miffed that Ricky Gervais, creator of the original "Office," passed her over for a cameo role on HBO's "Extras." The lodging heiress apparently asked Gervais for a plum cameo on the show, but he refused, causing her no end of grief. "I guess he's obviously scarred of starring alongside an A-lister," said Hilton to the San Francisco Chronicle ... Keith Richards may have to pay a whopping $90 fine for smoking on stage in Glasgow, says the BBC, where smoking is banned in all public places. The Rolling Stones guitarist and his bandmates allegedly puffed away throughout the performance last Friday ... "Spider-Man 3" is going back for reshoots, says co-star James Franco, after test audiences decided they needed more action. The actor tells MTV, "The next thing I'm shooting? Re-shoots on "Spider-Man" ... Probably next month. Director Sam Raimi wants more action." The third installment of the superhero series is scheduled to be in theaters next summer.

92. How amazingly irresponsible for you to misrepresent Meredith Veira's statements just so you could get a bitchy headline (I know, it's your job.)
I wonder how many of your readers will actually click on the hyperlink to the Time Magazine story and realize that the "hard to watch" and "it became sort of a joke" comments were regarding the media brouhaha over Star Jones' exit, not about the View itself. For goodness' sake, there's even a HUGE editor's note at the bottom of the article emphasizing the point, But hey, I guess your misrepresentation got me to click on your website--so sadly, score one for you.

93. Paris Hilton thinks shes an A lister? This is why no one with a brain likes her. SHE is not an A lister... her NAME is an A lister. She has done NOTHING but look pretty and inherit money. Thats it. Her music? All due to someone elses talent of hiding her horrible voice among others. (heard it on the radio and laughed at how bad it is) Her TV show? All due to the ability of others to put her in stupid situations so her natural cluelessness would show up. She is 'popular' only because pre pubescant boys will watch her and because small girls think that she's popular cause all the aforementioned boys pay her attetion. She is a nothing. Her sister? She has talent and is a hard working young woman... more attention should be paid to HER.. someone that HAS a big name.. but is using her abilities and intelligence to strike out on her own path.. Paris: shut up and look pretty.. thats all you're good for.

94. Why don't we all just wait until Rosie gets on the show and see what the raitings do before we start bashing her!! When she had her own show she did a lot for people so let's see if she can do it on The View.

95. I feel that the comments are present totally out of context. Of course it would be hard for her to watch now with all that has happened as a result of her wanting to take on a new opportunity. And I am sure it is all a "joke" for all the drama. I don't think for one minute that Miss Viera is ungrateful for her opportunity on the View or would ever be disrespectful to Barbara Walters. Unfortunatley for the View, Rosie will be it's demise and I think all the other participants on the show know it. As for the joke, to me Rosie is the joke and she must really have something over Walters for her to want to make Rosie a part of the show.

96. The news and the people promulgating it, ad nauseum, need to be impartial, non-biased and criticism-free. I do not think Meredith Viera is capable of that. I expect Matt will be having more confrontations with her like the one foisted on him by Tom Cruise and his arrogant, belligerant pseudo intellectualism, recently.

98. I will never watch the view. Rosie is annoying. I don't even know how she got into show business. I wondered that, when she had her own show.

99. Meredith crapped in her helmet when she dissed the view. No class thing to do - surprises me as I always thought she had class...

101. This comment is not bitchy, it is taken out of context. I think she is saying that the drama that occured after with Star Jones was silly and it took away the integrity of the show. I don't think she is being mean, just honest.

104. THE VIEW IS A JOKE?!?!!

Meredith...Duh?

Paris! You know the Alphabet. Let's say them all together now, A., B, C...

105. Paris' comments are so hilarious. Every time I read anything that she's uttered, I just laugh and scoff at her simultaneously. That idiot is a legend in her own mind. An A lister? Who the hell is she kidding? She's untalented, she's ugly, she's stupid...oh, but she has money and gets laid a lot (even though she claims that she's only slept with two men in her life -- LMFAO!). BIG DEAL, HONEY. I cannot wait until your 15 minutes of fame are over.
