Lets Get This Party Started
Meredith Calls "The View" A "Joke"

Meredith VieieraHow about this for a hot topic: Meredith Vieira now says that her old show "The View" is "hard to watch," that she got "blasé" about it after nine years, and even that it "sort of became a joke" after she left.

All of which should provide fodder for an interesting discussion when the current "View"-ers -- Barbara, Joy, Elisabeth, and, of course, Rosie -- get back to the studio next week.

The new "Today" show co-host disses her old colleagues on the ABC show in an interview with Time magazine, saying that she hasn't watched the show at all since she took off, except for the day after Star Jones announced she was "leaving." Even though the show has been garnering stellar ratings, Vieira says she thinks it's "very sad" what's happened to it. "I'm proud of the work we did there, but it's not a good time in the history of the show," says Meredith. "It's hard to watch. It sort of became a joke."

Vieira also adds that she's not overly excited about the hours at her new gig: "I'm not somebody who loves getting up at 4 in the morning, so this might kill me, but we'll see."

Cruise Gets Award for What He Didn't Say

Tom Cruise has been getting plenty of flak – and, last week, fired – for his remarks on psychiatry, on Katie Holmes, and plenty of other topics, but now he's been given an award in Australia for a possibly sexist comment that he didn't even make.

A gathering of 400 of Australia's most powerful women, reports People, bestowed the title of "Worst Derogatory Public Statement" on Cruise for supposedly saying, "I've got Katie tucked away so no one will get to us until my child is born." The only problem is that he didn't say it. Says his rep, "Anyone who knows him knows that he is a complete gentleman and would never ever say such a thing ... He has the utmost respect for women."

Wahlberg Sort of "Invincible" at Weekend Box

Mark Wahlberg's Rocky-on-the-gridiron football saga "Invincible" did good enough business to beat the competition in theaters over the weekend with an estimated $17 million. The triumph represents yet aother strong showing for a jock-flick released by Buena Vista, joining "Miracle" and "The Rookie" as notable successes.

"Talladega Nights" came in second place with $8 million, while indie darling "Little Miss Sunshine" continued to pick up speed, with $7.5 million to land it in third place. Several other new releases included "Beerfest," which chugged its way to fourth place with just $6.5 million, while OutKast's film debut, "Idlewild," performed more strongly than expected with $5.9 million in less than 1,000 locations.

Party Favors: Paris Mad At Ricky Gervais, Keith Richards in Trouble for Smoking, Spider-Man 3 Needs More Action

Paris Hilton is apparently miffed that Ricky Gervais, creator of the original "Office," passed her over for a cameo role on HBO's "Extras." The lodging heiress apparently asked Gervais for a plum cameo on the show, but he refused, causing her no end of grief. "I guess he's obviously scarred of starring alongside an A-lister," said Hilton to the San Francisco Chronicle ... Keith Richards may have to pay a whopping $90 fine for smoking on stage in Glasgow, says the BBC, where smoking is banned in all public places. The Rolling Stones guitarist and his bandmates allegedly puffed away throughout the performance last Friday ... "Spider-Man 3" is going back for reshoots, says co-star James Franco, after test audiences decided they needed more action. The actor tells MTV, "The next thing I'm shooting? Re-shoots on "Spider-Man" ... Probably next month. Director Sam Raimi wants more action." The third installment of the superhero series is scheduled to be in theaters next summer.

106. Meredith is right, the View is a joke. Why don't ABC cancel this show? Any other time if the Public enjoyed a show. The Networks cancel it, and not givin a reason why. Now, The Henhouse (Opps.....) The View is boring and senseless. I guess everyone knows, that I am no longer a View fan..

107. Thank You Ricky. I'm SO happy he didn't give her a chance, if he had given her a cameo he would have lost his own dignity like she had lost hers. Also let's get the facts straight-he's a brillant comedian with 2 of the best shows ever and she's a snobby rich girl with a very crappy album. Anyways I'm glad he passed I would have hated him if he had accepted.

108. I'm surprised at Meredith's comments. I hope it's true reporting because it really doesn't sound like something she'd say....but if she did, I find it in bad taste, even if she feels that way, that's a TOM CRUISE move not a Meredith move.

PARIS HILTON..book a room in a nice hotel and stay there, she makes me sick, she's up there with Omarosa, Star Jones, Tom Cruise...they live in a house with "fun mirrors" not "real mirrors" and that gives them a very strange and untrue look at themselves. They are all really sick people.

109. About Meredith......do read the actual interview in Time magazine and not just the blurb on this site. She wasn't dissing the show and being bitchy. It's all explained at the end of the article.

110. The View does for the Woman's Movement what Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson and Mayor Nagin do for the Afro American community - widen the divide between themselves and the rest of the country. If these frumpy broads are thet best the show can dig up, it's a real shame. Meredith has some class and made the right move escaping- Elizabeth is a pretty, anti liberal which gives her some credibility. The rest, especially the new member, are annoying hens who have no business being on TV in the first place. This show should be mandatory at Gitmo -now there's cruel and inhuman punishment. The View will follow Rosie down the toilet.

I HEARD SHE IS A VERY BIG FAN OF CLAMS.

112. Interesting that TMZ slammed Mel Gibson for making anti-semetic remarks but has no problem using a sexist and offensive term like bitchy to describe Meredith Viera's remarks. Mel Gibson was out of line and so is TMZ.

113. Sorry Paris, but I am soooo sick and tired of seeing your face every time I turn on my computer, but I'm sure you love all of the attention, good , bad or otherwise.Evidently you didn't get enough attention as a child. Get a life.

114. The original View crew was good, they got along and did not try to talk over each other. Since Hasselbeck arrived it is not langer worth the time slot.

115. she didn't say the show was a joke--she said the controversy surrounding it was a joke--you guys do realize this a tabloid section, right? most of what TMZ writes is crap.
Also, saw Paris last night at the HBO Emmy party--couldn't be more beautiful if she tried

116. I think it is a crying shame that Viera would leave the View and then bad mouth them. I always thought she was a joke. I love Elizabeth and Joy. I agree wtih the people who said Don't Bite the Hand That Fed You. Bad thing to say Viera.

117. Can we please start a nationwide petition to get rid of Elisabeth H. from the view??? She is so annoying and she actually thinks she has something
to contribhhgvvutite.Someone has to initiate something tohave her removed.

118. The View cannot already suck anymore than it already does. Geezh!!!!!

119. It states at the end of the TIME article that she's not calling the show a joke. She means the media makes a joke out of the show. TMZ should do their homework next time, instead of starting a rumor only to gain attention.

120. I think that some women are all like that. Back stabbing women. I used to watch the view but i am not interested in it at all since Star is gone. I do not care for Rosie and I think that she was a bad choice. They give women a bad name with all the crap they do. The view will be gone soon.
