Take That Mel! New Movie Portrays Jesus as Black

Color of the CrossA new movie is depicting the last 48 hours of Christ's life. No, not "Passion of the Christ." It's called "Color of the Cross," an independent religious biopic that premiered at Cannes in May.

The movie bills itself as "the first dramatic film in Hollywood history ever to depict Christ as a man of color" and as "the first Christian based film to inject race as a possible factor in the Crucifixion of Christ."

"Color of the Cross" doesn't focus on the bloody torture of Christ's crucifixion (like some movies), but on his agonizing struggle with impending death. Writer, director and star Jean Claude LaMarre says, "Our movie is not about dividing Christians, but broadening their perspective. For centuries, Leonardo Da Vinci's portrayal of Jesus has been widely accepted. We are offering an alternative image. There's room for all. We will be seeking the Pope's blessing on this one."

It is scheduled for release in Fall 2006.

31. The original jews were which color? I swear most people should take a real history lesson before speaking or writing. What I do find amazing are stories where factful BLACK characters are clearly portrayed as white , take your beloved 911 movie that just came out with Nicholas Cage, the guy who found the trapped Police men was BLACK yahoo did a story about it.

32. I thought you Jesus loving types were not suppose to throw stones? Before you write you responses you should ask yourselves. "what would Jesus do?"

OK may that will keep 'em busy. Can't swing a dead cat in here without striking down some religious bozos. Jeezus

34. If you ask any real Jew, #9, they consider to be both (cultural & religious). They have stuck to their traditions and ritualistic practices for many centuries. So when you ask any person what ethnicity they are and they answer Jewish - you would deny them that. I have many Jewish friends and they would refer themselves as Jews now as white. Hitler wanted to wipe out the race and creed of all Jews too. But I guess that probably doesn't matter to some people. As far as for me, I do understand the purpose for Jesus coming down to earth and the reason why he died on the cross. I just do not like it when race is made the issue. It must stick to religious facts and cultural truth.

37. To the person who posted an entire paragraph about how Jesus couldn't have been black.....GET A LIFE!!!! For years white actors have played black historical figures. (Hello....Elizabeth Taylor in Cleopatra). What's the harm of a black man playing Jesus? My goodness, it's only a movie! I'm sure if you're really a Christian, you're not going to stop believing in Christ...just because he's portrayed by a black man!

39. To UR ALL NUTTY: You're the only nut here. Are you trying to make people believe there are no Polish, German or Russian Jews, etc. Anyone, can convert to any religion, at anytime and from any country. Let me ask you a question, How long does one have to practice Judaism, before they become a Jew. Maybe you should ask your open-minded friends.

41. Different societies have depicted Jesus and most other biblical figures as their own ethnicity in their art, for example he is primarily white in the West, and black in Africa. Such representations are not, in the modern day, usually intended to be historically accurate.

42. HOWEVER, Jesus as having "hair like wool" and "feet like bronze" is partial evidence of his African origins. I also consider the "so-called Middle East" as a part of Africa only "recently divided by the man-made Suez Canal," and therefore inclusive of Jesus' birthplace.

KNOW YO HISTORY, BLACK HISTORY!!!

We are all decendants form Africa.
