VMAs Hottest Moments

VMAs rock NY: Click to launch galleryThe biggest names in music rocked Radio City Hall in New York last night for the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. While some critics have already panned the show as one of the worst in years, you can't blame the stars.

A leather clad Beyoncé rocked the house with her new single "Ring The Alarm," Shakira gyrated all over the place in belly dancing garb and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz even brought a monkey to the red carpet.

Check out TMZ's gallery of the hottest people, moments and on stage performances from the evening. It might be easier than sitting through the three-and-a-half hour show again.

16. I don't see how Beyonce gets away with wearing this kinda outfit and thrusting her crotch right in front of the camera, and if Britney Spears does it, it ends up being a big thing. Yes, Beyonce can sing, but she's honestly trying too hard to fit into the teen-scene and dressing/sounding like everyone else instead of being a real artist.

18. I THOUGHT IS WAS GREAT FOR THEM TO ADDRESS GLOBAL WARMING... THAT'S AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESS MORE OFTEN... SINCE LIFE IS IMPORTANT. IT'S GREAT THAT MTV INCLUDDED THAT.

20. This show has sucked non-stop for the last 5 years! Nothing new, same old crap. I'm sick of RAP music and Brainless bimbo's who think they're talent. Where was KT Tunstall and Wilco? Is MTV now BET? Sure seems like it to me.

21. Ok, first of all, lets stop with the racist crap!!
I like all types of music... This is an award show....
the only good performance was X-tina's...
It didn't seem like they had it all together though...

22. BET & MTV are the exact opposites!

"Music" TV = 2-hours of Music Vids, 22-hours of Reality TV

Black "Entertainment" TV = 22-hours of Music Vids, 2-hours of old as reruns.

Go Fig!

The music industry is old & tired. Outcast was the last group that was worth a listen, and now their recent album is weak! Not to mention the West Coast has not regained any glory since the fall of Death Row :-(

23. highlights for me: Justin, Beyonce, the Killers, Ok Go, J-Lo ( she looked good )....and Al Gore---maybe not the appropriate place...but I worry about this world and globl warming too...not just about Nick and Jess running into each other....lol

lowlights for me: was pretty tame...Jack Black wasn't that bad though...Jackass dudes were ...well...jackasses....Lil Kim-- she was annoying and ghetto--didn't Jail wake her up?, Jessica being an Airhead on purpose, then calling herself out "oh Typical Jessica"--duh!...and lastley Paris..wtf was she there for? can't stand her !

wish maybe Madonna, Chili Peppers, and Gwen would have been there.....

25. Egads!!!! Yes, please, close your legs. And this is the product of Mr. Knowles? What IS it with parents these days raising their daughters to act like such trash???

26. You forgot about Christina Aguilera! She's the only one who can really belt out a tune. Everyone else was just a mediocre singer!

27. What the hell was Beyonce doing?! She always acts and dresses like a whore. She needs to close her legs. That makes no sense. It's so hypocritical because she did a song called "Nasty Girl" on that "Survivor" album with Destiny's Child and everything thing she describes as being a "nasty, trashy girl" is exactly what she encompasses. It's such a shame that kids have people like that to look up to.

28. This years show was the biggest waste of time... start to finish. Jack black was horrid, the intro that is supposed to be the funniest part of the whole show was tired, and awful. I cant believe mtv gave the go ahead on half of his lines, was there no1 waiting in the wings screaming, "abort, this just isn't funny!" truly disapointed by justin timberlakes performace.... it sounded like a midget had a deathgrip on his testicles, there was truly nothing sexy about it. beyonce's whole performance was lifted... it was a half britney '99 prerecorded dance thing, paired with a janet jackson crap that a real singer shouldnt have to do... and did anybody else think she was lip syncing? i think the track sounded a little bit too like the record, which is a terrible song btw... beyonces definitely lost her m,ind on this album and needs to stop letting her mother dress her... i thought hollywood learned that collabs with boyfriends end up like crap... speaking of j-lo... what was that outfit... it looked like she jumped out of starwars direct from the sand planet. other major disapointements included the pussycatdolls taking 5 years to accept a best choreography award... lol, then looking like prostitutes on luda's lap... they should've performed buttons, not been stuck singing hooks and slutting around to luda's terrible new single... the most entertaining part of the whole night was when the jackass boys were losing their minds on the preshow, asking joh norris if he had been at barraccuda the previous night while kurt loder battled hearing loss... pathetic awards show. i thought the vmas were bad in miami, but even in new york they are just so over. the music doesn't matter anymore, there is no artistry, no talent, just as a couple other people said, a bunch of people with a lot of bling on talking about when their record drops.... i think that the record buying (downloading) public is getting tired of these self absorbed, self important phonies

29. Welll....

Overall, I thought this year's show was one of the WORST!! Jack Black is the worst host they've ever hired. He is annoying not funny. I thought Jimmy Fallon was the worst But Jack is terrible.

I didnt like the song "Ring the Alarm" before last night, however I think beyonce rocked the song!! Her performance was great, come in, even the "haters" have to admit she was the BEST PERFORMANCE.

I usually make my own predictions on who will win, but this year I got almost allmy guesses WRONG!! Alotta the winners were ridiculous choices.

terrible show, period!!

30. You guys can call me racist if you want, but the GLARING problem of the VMA's is the rap/bling culture. I used to LOVE rap music because it was poetic, socially relevant, and at times very profound. All they do now is talk about their damn diamonds and rims. And if over half the show is rap, and over half of the presenters are rappers, then you just get this soulless, empty awards show that is 100% style, 0% substance.

On the flip side, you have all of these pop stars that are simply studio inventions. The only performer with exceptional talent was Shakira, and even she is really hampered singing in English.
