VMAs Hottest Moments

VMAs rock NY: Click to launch galleryThe biggest names in music rocked Radio City Hall in New York last night for the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards. While some critics have already panned the show as one of the worst in years, you can't blame the stars.

A leather clad Beyoncé rocked the house with her new single "Ring The Alarm," Shakira gyrated all over the place in belly dancing garb and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz even brought a monkey to the red carpet.

Check out TMZ's gallery of the hottest people, moments and on stage performances from the evening. It might be easier than sitting through the three-and-a-half hour show again.

32. John,

There still is rap music that is poetic and socially relevant. Maybe your first problem is your looking for this on MTV and GENERALIZING ALL rap/hip-hop music based on MTV awards??!! PLease. You are straight up ignorant!(or is that too "bling" for you)

33. Beyonce did nothing but steal Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation moves. Nothing original about her performance! I was not impressed! She's trying WAY too hard when it's SOOO unneccesary!! She has the voice and the looks, but she's throwing it all away!!!!

34. The thing that gets me about racist people are that some of them always seem to be so oblivious to the fact that they are racist. MTV's lack of pulling off a good VMA, which, by the way, John, has been sucking for quite some time now, is not the fault of any particular genre of music. For you to blame the downfall of MTV on the hip/hop industry is like Mel Gibson blaming the Jews for every war that has ever occurred. But, then again, I'm sure you agree with him as well, don't you? So ignorant.

36. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A RACIST TO SAY GANGSTA SHOW, IT WAS. GET A LIFE, SO MUCH BLING IT WAS SHINNING THROUGH MY SET. DOESN'T MAKE ME OR ANYONE A RACIST, PEOPLE USE THAT WORD TO THEIR OWN ADVANTAGE, LIKE FREEDOM OF SPEECH, A CROCK. AND THE SHOW DID STINK.

37. Nikki, I agree with you. Bey's performance had "haters" liking it. To be honest, I think it was better than Timberlake's. I think there are too many Mickey Mouse Clubbers on here b/c his performance was weak. Sorry! And I don't think people are being racist. I think people are frustrated with seeing the same stuff on MTV over and over. And I am black! As a rock fan (well really music fan)even though MTV is improving with more acts represented, to be honest it was more of an equal balance in the arena of music on MTV back in the day. But some of the remarks are a bit off the color and unnecessary.

38. Jack Black was horrible! He looked like a blubbering idiot!! Alot of you are saying that there was too much "rap". I think there was far too much "rock". I've never even heard of some of those rock groups and I'm white!!!

39. First of all, this music that we hear nowadays is NOT rap or hip-hop music. It is manufactured crap like all the other pop music that's out now (I call it hip-pop). It is not reflective of hip-pop, black, or urban cultures. So don't blame it for this "bling" society that we live in. Learn about real hip-hop and then you'll understand that this "music" is just another marketing scam thats making music execs rich. Do you honestly think there are actually no talented, artistic rappers out there who have something to say? Why do you think they can't get record deals or when they do, u barely, if at all hear their song on the radio or see their video. (Like, MOS DEF who was ARRESTED after the show for doing an improptu show.) Yet, the same 10 songs that say the same things are played 50 times a day. Don't let them f*ck up your view of what is a true art form.

40. Bad Show. The Killers were great. They def. had the best vocals of the show. My Chemical Romance - great performance, (fooled me into thinking we were being set up for a great show) and Justin was good. Pink winning Best Pop Video was like a little glimpse of hope for music today. LOVED her acceptance speech. That being said, OMG what the hell is wrong with Beyonce. I know u can't be a female "artist" these days without being naked, but come on that was just gross. And, yeah her performance was partly good - that's cuz she just did rhythm nation. DUH! Was is just me, or could Jessica Simpson not read the teleprompter? I found it hilarious that everyone of the PussyCat Hoes had to speak, but not one of them remembered to thank the person who was featured on the song (Snoop). Tragedy that "Check up on it" won best r&B video especially over Mary J. I actually liked the Panic! song by the end of the show but their performance was horrible!! I was actually embarrased for the lead singer. Little' Kim please go sit down somewhere.

41. The only people I know of who listen to music that was on the VMA's are little girls under 10 and white people who wish they were black! White people can't dance and pull it off like a brother! Fake!

43. #35 NO ONE IS DISPUTING THE SHOW STUNK. BUT WHAT THE HELL DOES HOW MUCH "BLING" SOMEONE HAD ON HAVE TO DO WITH IT. I SAW PLENTY OF PEOPLE WHO WERENT RAPPERS WEARING "BLING" TOO. SO THE NEW RULE IS IF YOU WEAR A LOT OF EXPENSIVEJEWELRY YOU ARE "GANGSTA"??
WELL THEN I GUESS ALL THE PEOPLE AT THE EMMYS THE OTHER NIGHT MADE THAT GANGSTA TOO

Posted at 4:44PM on Sep 1st 2006 by KELLY

44. To make the statement that flashy jewelry represents "Gangsta" behavior in itself is racist. To say that hip/hop artist are gangsta is, again, racist in itself. Some of the rap artists grew up in the suburbs ignorant one. And like Kelly said, I guess the celebs at the Emmys are all "gangstas" too, huh? I guess all the female celebs that are flashing 14 kt diamond engagement rings, necklaces and what not all are gangstas too, huh? As I said...oblivious little fool.
