Rosie Gets Going on "The View"

On a manic first day on "The View," Rosie O'Donnell took charge of the table, introducing herself jokingly as Meredith Vieira, showed off a bouquet of flowers from her friend Tom Cruise, gave away a cruise to the audience, and managed to avoid getting into it with Elisabeth, though she was almost provoked into a little confrontation by Joy Behar.

After assuring the audience, "I'm taking my medication and everything will be fine," Rosie made her presence felt -- and made nice with her co-hosts -- at the Hot Topics table. She assured Barbara Walters that she'll email her whenever she blogs about the show on Rosie.com (and teased her boss about her technological shortcomings), complimented Elisabeth on her newly-short locks (which Hasselbeck said she did impulsively "on a bad day"), and congratulated Joy on her daughter's engagement.

But Rosie being Rosie, she couldn't resist just a little spice -- she talked about having conversations in the bath with her daughter about pubic hair, looked ready to spar when Joy bizarrely ascribed a Japanese accent to Rosie's son Blake, and expressed great joy at the USTA National Tennis Center naming itself after lesbian icon Billie Jean King. But she didn't pontificate, and, all in all, the show had an energy that hasn't been in evidence in some time.

And the only on-set explosion was a delayed one: When audience members all got cruises, confetti that was supposed to shower the audience took a little while to drop.

17. Hope this is not a sign of things to come but Joy was a tad too quiet. If Rosie wants to be successful she better stop hijacking the conversation to make it all about her.

19. Way tooooooo loud! Tone it down to conversation mode. Rosie take your turn to speak (not yell) and give others their TURN to speak.

21. Good grief..I missed the show today. However I am surprised that some of the comments use profanity. Maybe a little more education would help for these people in selecting words that have some thought and are not shortcuts. Most televisions have station selections. If I really didn't want to watch a program I would change the station. This of course, would require some education on numbers..next time watch with your shoes off and you'll get an added 10. That should help with changing stations.

22. It really saddens me that people would try to judge someone's ability as a performer based on PRIVATE personal choices they make. Being ignorant and small minded gets you know where except ugly hateful places. Rosie did a great job for her first day, but like others have said it would be nice if she didn't dominate the conversation as much! But everybody deserves a grace period to find their niche!

27. I feel compelled to add to #5's response about, angry, full of hate, bitter people....it's astonishing to think just how many people in our country are so angry, bitter, and hateful. Never have I read comments on TMZ, about any given subject, that the majority of the comments are from seriously mean and hatefilled people. It's very sad when you have a forum to express your opinions and you don't use it in a positive, constructive way, but rather to spew hatred against decent people. It's okay to disagree with people, to downright not like them for whatever reasons....how about expressing yourselves with some dignity and grace. Why be so offensive?

28. Way to go Rosie! You put your money where your mouth is and I appreciate your philanthropic virtues. To those of you that don't understand that....She gives a ton of money to charities.
Did not watch the view last year due to Star Jones and Elisabeth (how stupid is she?), but will now!
Thanks for adding someone with a brain to your show!

29. I think its ok to be lesbian . . . as long as you're hot. Seriously, though, people don't like Rosie because she is obese, loud, and has a voice that can literally cause pain. She has, on more than one occasion, given me a real headache. I'm not using metaphors here, she causes headaches.

She's also totally phony, only coming out after her daytime show was done and she felt she didn't have to manipulate the public anymore.

30. Barbara Walters,
The show is much better when you are not there. Take some time off and sit behind the scenes if you must. I know that you couldn't fire Elisabeth this year because of the whole Star thing, but please put that on top of your list asap!
everything that comes out of her mouth is just stupid. She is a stupid girl and frankly morning viewers are ALL smarter than her. You could choose anyone else!
Lastly, thanks for adding Rosie! Best move you've made in many years!
