Rosie Gets Going on "The View"

On a manic first day on "The View," Rosie O'Donnell took charge of the table, introducing herself jokingly as Meredith Vieira, showed off a bouquet of flowers from her friend Tom Cruise, gave away a cruise to the audience, and managed to avoid getting into it with Elisabeth, though she was almost provoked into a little confrontation by Joy Behar.

After assuring the audience, "I'm taking my medication and everything will be fine," Rosie made her presence felt -- and made nice with her co-hosts -- at the Hot Topics table. She assured Barbara Walters that she'll email her whenever she blogs about the show on Rosie.com (and teased her boss about her technological shortcomings), complimented Elisabeth on her newly-short locks (which Hasselbeck said she did impulsively "on a bad day"), and congratulated Joy on her daughter's engagement.

But Rosie being Rosie, she couldn't resist just a little spice -- she talked about having conversations in the bath with her daughter about pubic hair, looked ready to spar when Joy bizarrely ascribed a Japanese accent to Rosie's son Blake, and expressed great joy at the USTA National Tennis Center naming itself after lesbian icon Billie Jean King. But she didn't pontificate, and, all in all, the show had an energy that hasn't been in evidence in some time.

And the only on-set explosion was a delayed one: When audience members all got cruises, confetti that was supposed to shower the audience took a little while to drop.

31. I don't care for Rosie but she made dizzie lizzie seem completely irrelevant.

32. I watched it this morning....Rose was really loud, she could use to tone that down, and she did try to dominate the conversation, in an obvious and irritating manner........I don't know that she has it in her to know her place in a forum such as that, where every persons opinions are important and need to be heard, not just hers......it may work, it may not. In my opinion Joy or Elisabeth should be heading up the show, they have seniority.

33. I really enjoyed watching Rosie's first day today on The View! I like Rosie alot, and I think she'll do a great job. She seemed a little nervous today, but that's to be expected after being away from television for so long. She's funny and down to earth.

I don't really care for Elisabeth, but it's good to have different viewpoints on a show like this. I have to admit that I'm glad Star is off the show. I didn't hate her, but she didn't really add much to the show. Does anyone know if The View is going to get another co-host to round out the group?

Also, it looks like they finally got rid of those awful looking pillows on the chairs. Thank goodness! Why do they need pillows? The chairs should be comfortable enough. It was painful watching Barbara trying to climb up on her pillow every day.

34. Rosie really did take over the show today- she is loud and obnoxious-and it seems that the hot topics will never be the same again. This show is called the View! not Rosie! If she keeps mouthing off with the regulars who have 9 or 10 years on her- she will bring the ratings down on this show. I found her to be very annoying-not like Meredith Viera who brought at least some kind of dignity to this show. She is more of an entertainer-craving the spotlight-if that is what she wants-then give her a variety show-not the View!

35. Have you all lost your minds? Since when is lesbian marriage worth discussing on day time talk. I guess next comes the discussions of the mechanical toys etc. Barabra Walters is so Out of the loop she doesn't know how to access the internet. My 81 year old Grandmother can do that. She is not making very sound decisions. She really needs to hang it up. I see the changes they have made with a lilly white panel and all white guests. I guess you all support that type of programing. The truth always comes out. I guess Ms. Kelly will be on the show next with Mr. Rosie's confused kids. Well it seems Rosie is incharge and Joy will continue to be a joke, and Elizabeth a jerk.

36. I agree TOTALLY with Scout!

Rosie and Joy are great! They make the show. BabWa and the other one can go away and no one would miss them. "The other one" kept looking at Rosie with hate in her eyes. Also, it would be great if they all would STOP TALKING AT THE SAME TIME. OMG, I thought my head was going to explode trying to keep up with the convo. They didn't even realize they got off of the subject of Steve Irwin. And when Jessica came out, she could never really finish a sentence. I understand its a talk show but, sheeesh. One at a time ladies.

37. I'm so glad I did not watch the View - I used to watch it when Meredith was the host, but since they announced O"Donnell would be hosting I decided I would never watch the show. What were the producers thinking when they hired her? My GOD what a huge mistake - she's crude, classless, ignorant, basically disgusting - the worst casting ever! ....and don't understimate Elizabeth- she might just surprise you - I can't imagine why anybody with any intelligence wouldn't travel overseas - planes are 10x safer than cars - and all this terror(which is overhyped ) going to keep you holed in your pathetic little NY APT.?

38. Rosie was in full form.....she is a force to be reckoned with....today Joy Behar was upstaged, two comics on one show....hmmmmmmmmmmm maybe not the right idea......and Elizabeth looked like a deer in the headlights most of the time....Barbara appeared apprehensive and uncomfortable and during the first break the director Bill stood up walked over to Rosie and had a discussion about the earphones...maybe he was telling her to shut up and give the others a chance to talk...but she didn't hear them because she was talking....and lastly, the recorded disclaimer about all the questions we don't really care about...like why you left your show, your haircut, your marriage etc was not necessary.....let the past stay there and start fresh...so now we know the answers....will that make me watch the show more...probably just to see Rosie eat them all up and take over the show...hahahahahhah I think they should have left Star Jones there...then it would have been a great match for the WWW........best fight ever....in any case..the show was boring before...now at least we have a new intrigue..this is reality tv at its best.

39. Excuse me, #32. Sounds like you just plain have it in for "the other one" as you put it, all I have to say to that is what-ever. But please, when describing such things, be careful not it be inaccurate. Hate in her eyes(?), that's just not true, Ms. Hasselbeck was welcoming and gracious to Rosie O'donnell.

43. Obviously, the comments made about my comment come from a bunch of lonely, desperate woman, who find a fat, obnoxious, muff diver, comical! You should all grow hair on your legs and armpits and get tickets to the view! GROSS!

44. Rosie ROCKS, and all you unintelligent, disgusting rodents that badmouth Rosie, have no sense of humor, a close minded bigot moron (which your mother and father raised you that way (so they're to blame for being a disgusting rodents as well), and should you have nothing to to say about her, I suggest you keep your mouth shut, your opinions in your mind (if it's not closed too tight already) and your poor grammar and spelling away from TMZ.

Shame on you for acting so immature and inhuman.

45. I have watched "The View" since inception. I watched my last show today. It was awful. The View started off to be different woman from different walks of life. The chemistry among the women is obviously very baaaaaaaaaad. ABC needs to start planning a replacement show fast. I don't plan on supporting the advertisers of the show, either. Meredith Viera was right "The View" is now a joke - a very bad one.
