Rosie Gets Going on "The View"

On a manic first day on "The View," Rosie O'Donnell took charge of the table, introducing herself jokingly as Meredith Vieira, showed off a bouquet of flowers from her friend Tom Cruise, gave away a cruise to the audience, and managed to avoid getting into it with Elisabeth, though she was almost provoked into a little confrontation by Joy Behar.

After assuring the audience, "I'm taking my medication and everything will be fine," Rosie made her presence felt -- and made nice with her co-hosts -- at the Hot Topics table. She assured Barbara Walters that she'll email her whenever she blogs about the show on Rosie.com (and teased her boss about her technological shortcomings), complimented Elisabeth on her newly-short locks (which Hasselbeck said she did impulsively "on a bad day"), and congratulated Joy on her daughter's engagement.

But Rosie being Rosie, she couldn't resist just a little spice -- she talked about having conversations in the bath with her daughter about pubic hair, looked ready to spar when Joy bizarrely ascribed a Japanese accent to Rosie's son Blake, and expressed great joy at the USTA National Tennis Center naming itself after lesbian icon Billie Jean King. But she didn't pontificate, and, all in all, the show had an energy that hasn't been in evidence in some time.

And the only on-set explosion was a delayed one: When audience members all got cruises, confetti that was supposed to shower the audience took a little while to drop.

46. @ joy , you are so right about the veiw, it's very boring now that the 2( Meridith& Star) that were really holding down the show are gone. Barbara is a phoney and buying the audience (with the trip) is because ratings have dropped(lol). rosie is nothing but a loud mouth and she is also a phoney......I hear now that they are trying to get Jessica Simpleton(Simpson) to be on the show, lol,boy are they grasping at straws. Who in their right mind want to sit and watch a fat loud mouth (rosie), a dried up Anchor woman(barbara), An old Humorless Comedian(joy) and I can t bring myself to say anything bad about Elizabeth, the woman needs a job, lol. The show sucks now...... time to hang it up!

48. I never watched The View before because I'm not a Meredith Viera/Star Jones fan, but I watched today. Why? Because I loved Rosie when she had her talk show. Yes, I agree with others that she hogged the conversation, but she looked a bit nervous to me. I'm sure they'll get that straightened out -- come on people, Day #1! And Cindy, why so judgmental? Are YOU so perfect? Squeegis I've noticed your comments several times before and I tend to agree with them.

49. I very much was looking forward to "The View" today, but sad to say I came away much disappointed. I don't have a favorite among the original three - at one time or another I've both enjoyed and disliked all three, depending on the subject. And the same goes with Rosie - she's not my favorite entertainer but I've enjoyed much of her work over the years. Unfortunately, the combination of the four personalities just didn't meld for me. Hopefully this will change with time - but right now I just have a sinking feeling that Joy and Rosie are not going to compliment each other. Perhaps not such a good idea to have two strong "funny" personalities on together.I really thought Elisabeth (or however her name is spelled) would not mesh with Rosie - but I rather have a feeling that Rosie just may not quite fit in comfortably with any of them. Time will tell - and I will give it a chance.

51. I watched one-half of he show to see if I would like it. I did not. They should get a chair that has a lower appearance so that Rosie does not stand so over the other ladies. The group seemed to not line up height wise very well. Rosie needs to talk less and lower her voice. Didn't like that she suggesed that Joy have a double wedding with her daugther. Announcing a child's engagement is a proud occasion for most parents so don't put it down. I don't want to hear about Rosie's children every day. She started with using her children in the View commercials. Everyhone does not have a taste for her so she should stay calm until she works a few weeks and get the feel of the job. I don't think the show is going to make it. Barbara will feel the heat for letting Star Jones-Reynolds go.

52. I thought Rosie's first day was awkward ! As usual, the hosts were not focused and rambled on and on. I think the most shocking point was when Rosie mentioned the passing of Steve Erwin and the conversation digressed to the movie Hollywoodland. In the words of the poet Jay Z "stay focused man" (heehee, laugh here).

I was hoping Rosie would add some flavor to a bland dated stew known as THE VIEW, however, I was let down. Thank God for Ellen b/c THE VIEW's time has come and gone. They even managed to ruin the audience give away, the corny toy boats did not work and Barbara seemed out of sync and off cue as usual.

The highlight was Eliz(s)abeth's highlights and hair cut, very nice! I hope that the new hair do will transform the ignorant thoughts that dwell inside her head. Hopefully Rosie will get her footing and step up! In any case, I may have viewed my last episode of the VIEW et vous?

55. Barbara, Barbara, Barbara, I stopped watching because of Star Jones Reyolds and her marriage. I missed it when she pulled a fast one on you and quit.

But Barbara, the bitch is gone, did you really have to bring Rosie on. Barbara a lot of the older generation go not like not accept this lesbian business. But you allowed her to introduce her "wife" and in-laws. The marriage is not legal.

I give it one month before conservative Elizabeth walks out, and maybe two months before the Liberal Joy has her full of Rosie and her antics.

Barbara, if this continues, you will never see Season 11. Dump Rosie and find someone else. No way can Rosie take Meridith's place.

I guess I will have to find something else to watch instead of the View, because no way do I want that lesbianism pushed down my through day after day.

57. I watched today and thought Rosie gave the show the shot in the arm it needed. I don't think it was Rosie's fault that Star is gone, but I do wish we could all give her credit for her leaving. Don't really like Elizabeth, think she needs to get off her high horse and quit looking down her snotty nose at everyone else. She is so immature and living in a fantasy world that she can't see the possibility of anything going wrong in her perfect little world. Glad to have Rosie back daily!

58. I have been anxiously awaiting Rosie's arrival! I know today HAD to be hard on all the ladies of The View. Although I miss Meredith and Starr, I L-O-V-E Joy & Barbara and only hope that Joy and Rosie will get along well. It will also be nice to see Elisabeth so irritated every day - just sitting there seething over soooo many things she "thinks" she's so right about, and waiting for her to say something [else] stupid...that won't take long!!! Now she has three women who really know of the truths of life...I'm sure one onf these days Elisabeth will grow up! The only thing that is constant is change...and The "New" View is already showing us that change can definitely be challenging but hopefully constantly great in a whole new way! Signed: One Cent's Worth.
