Rosie Gets Going on "The View"

On a manic first day on "The View," Rosie O'Donnell took charge of the table, introducing herself jokingly as Meredith Vieira, showed off a bouquet of flowers from her friend Tom Cruise, gave away a cruise to the audience, and managed to avoid getting into it with Elisabeth, though she was almost provoked into a little confrontation by Joy Behar.

After assuring the audience, "I'm taking my medication and everything will be fine," Rosie made her presence felt -- and made nice with her co-hosts -- at the Hot Topics table. She assured Barbara Walters that she'll email her whenever she blogs about the show on Rosie.com (and teased her boss about her technological shortcomings), complimented Elisabeth on her newly-short locks (which Hasselbeck said she did impulsively "on a bad day"), and congratulated Joy on her daughter's engagement.

But Rosie being Rosie, she couldn't resist just a little spice -- she talked about having conversations in the bath with her daughter about pubic hair, looked ready to spar when Joy bizarrely ascribed a Japanese accent to Rosie's son Blake, and expressed great joy at the USTA National Tennis Center naming itself after lesbian icon Billie Jean King. But she didn't pontificate, and, all in all, the show had an energy that hasn't been in evidence in some time.

And the only on-set explosion was a delayed one: When audience members all got cruises, confetti that was supposed to shower the audience took a little while to drop.

61. Wonder who is the next to exit The View? It won't last as it is.

Also, don't you love the way Tom Cruise just happens to come up everyday on something? You might know he would have Rosie try to start that again.

62. you all certainly have figured out that "cindy" is not a female haven't you? that fact alone should speak for itself. perhaps sindy and suzie are the same person too.
i totally enjoyed the show!

63. First of all Barbara Walters is one of the worst libs of all time and throw in Rosie and you have two big reasons not to watch the View. Which is Barbara's View no matter what anyone says. When Rosie attacked Tom Selleck on her show that showed her true colors. She attacked K-mart for selling guns, then when she got a threat of kidnapping of HER child she hired an armed bodyguard!! Well we should not have the means to defend ourselves or our families, but we also can't afford to hire armed bodyguards and expensive alarm systems either. She can live whatever lifestyle she chooses but when her thinking endangers my rights I have a right to speak out as well. This is one who will never watch the View or any other show with these two women in it.

64. I THOUGHT THE SHOW WAS GREAT. GLAD TO SEE ROSIE BACK ON THE AIR. I THINK SHE WILL GIVE THE SHOW AN ADDED LIFT. SHE IS FUNNY AND DOESN'T PULL ANY PUNCHES I THINK HER AND JOY ARE THE BEST. GLAD THEY GOT RID OF STAR . WILL MISS MERIDTH.

65. For SOME REASON, I did watch The View yesterday. I had no idea it was Rosie's debut day, and I don't usually watch the show. I couldn't care less as to Rosie's sexual orientation, but I did find her to be a square peg in a round hole. The other women seemed to be "team players", while Rosie insisted on playing the role of the "coach". I hope that she'll grow into the slot in time, but yesterday she just insisted on DOMINATING every single segment. She doesn't HAVE to have a loud, obstreperous opinion on EVERYTHING that's said! I also wish that they ALL wouldn't talk at the SAME TIME!!

68. Rosie was loud and kept trying to talk over everyone at the table. She was nearly on the edge of her seat when talking with Jessica Simpson. That shirt she was wearing, made her look sloppy. Okay glad so many like Rosie, I used to be a fan when she did stand up back in the day. That whole segment on "where has Rosie been?, "What's new? I don't think people really care and I get so tired of listening to her life story with Kelly.

We don't need Saturday Night Live antics at the table. Rosie acts like Tina Fey, trying to add a funny twist. And that laugh is so annoying. I watched yesterday just to give her the benefit of the doubt but I ended up switching over to the Price is Right, I can totally tolerate Bob Barker anyday of the week.

70. oh and the cruise was so lame it was for 2 days. I didn't know cruises came in trial sizes. if you really like us then book a 7 day cruise the next time. Just pack an overnight bag! Oprah does much better for her fans and viewers.

71. I think Rosie tried to steal the show by talking overone and not letting others get in a compleat thought. She is a big loud mouth. She needs to cool it or she will put the show off the air.

72. Agree Rosie and Joy will be the only ones worth listening to. Can't they find a better representative of the younger generation than unintelligent strident Elizabeth H? She belongs back on cable with the fashion stuff, about all she is coherent talking about and then just barely.

Give it time for the dynamics to work out. The first day for anyone is never perfect.

73. I am not a big fan of the view nor Rosie, but I do watch occasionally. I have to say Rosie added a dimension and spice to the show that I haven't seen before. Barbara seems to be somewhat annoyed with her at times and I hope this won't effect the networks view of Rosie. The show was on the dull side and I think I might start watching regularly, now that something's happening on the screen.

74. I always watched The View as it was a wonderful mix of intelligent, educated and opinionated women. .. .how sad that it is already becoming another "Rosie O'Donell" show. She needs to be the center of attention and I do not believe she will give way to others comments for very long. It was a very trying effort for her on the first show to even let anyone join in. Barbara Walters should be the next one to leave the show... .enjoy your retirement, don't go down the tubes by being dominated by Rosie. The View was always considered a classy women's point of view show. It is becoming a circus!! I will look elsewhere for a better class of entertainment. . . . . .from a women who still cares about quality!!

75. I didn't like Rosie before and I like her less now. Her drooling all over Tom cruise is laughable. I don't like the Vieu, never did. The cackling of the women sounds like a hen house. It is a good thing we have a choice to watch.
