EXCLUSIVE: Jessica's Publicist Fired

TMZ has learned Rob Shuter, Jessica Simpson's longtime publicist, has been fired.

According to one well-placed source, Rob was let go because of last week's weekly magazine debacle involving Jessica's purported romance with rocker John Mayer. Both People and Us Weekly magazines ran cover stories suggesting the two were dating, and People even quoted Jessica saying "I'm in love!" Reports began to surface this week that Mayer may have been irked about the public proclamation and reportedly felt used for publicity. This week, Jessica emphatically announced on "The View" "I am actually not dating John Mayer."

Another source suggests the Simpson camp has been unhappy with Shuter's performance for some time and that the Mayer incident "was the last straw" in a series of events leading up to the firing.

Calls to Shuter were not immediately returned. The person who answered the phone at JT Entertainment, father Joe Simpson's management company, had no comment.

Ironically on John Mayer's blog, he posted a simple message: "Really enjoying this song" above a poster for Public Enemy's hit "Don't Believe the Hype."

3. Yup, he's the problem. He's the reason her album is tanking and he's the reason the public can't stand her dumb ass any more. Without Nick, she is a waste of oxygen and should be left alone to be consoled by her "father/overlord".

5. As I recall, Paris Hilton had problems with the guy too last year. He fed newpapers some weird info and then tried to blame it on Paris when someone sued. He should have known the laws,though, that was his job and that's why he was hired.
Of course, one always feels bad when someone gets fired but it seems the guy needs to be more careful about the info he disseminates.

6. That is pretty pathetic to use a casual relationship to GET PUBLICITY. What an act of desperation. This girl is absolutely FINISHED. Any future relationships she thought she might be having , will now be SLIM TO NONE. If I was an elegible batchler I would RUN FROM THIS OPPORTUNITIST.

She can plan on NOT HEARING HER TELEPHONE RING for prospective dates for a while after this .WHAT A LOSER.

9. YIKES , post # 7 : That is pretty sick. Let's just hope that isn't the case. Although the guy comes off as being pretty CREEPY. He has made sexual remarks about her in the past.

10. Seriously, the girl just might be finished. What a shame...one day you have the world eating out of your hands and the next day it can all go away. She maybe should have stuck with Nick and not let fame gone to her head. Nick is probably having a little snicker over all of this.

12. It is impossible to make Jessica look good. She is a HUGE FOOL and no publicist in the world can change that. She needs to fire her father - maybe then she will gain some credibility. Good luck finding someone who makes her look good. Not going to happen.

14. No matter who they try to pin the blame on Jessica's career is over. Nick is much better off without her and I honestly don't know how he stuck around as long as he did - with her instigating "poppa joe" always hanging on to her coattails. What kind of a preacher father makes sexual comments about their daughter???? EWWWWW
