Lets Get This Party Started
Rosie Scores Big in "View" Debut

For all the hype and the uncertainty about what might happen on "The View" once Rosie O'Donnell arrived, one thing's for sure: A lot more people are watching, at least according to the ratings for Rosie's first day.

Rosie's debut on Tuesday attracted 4 million viewers nationwide, which was a 54 percent jump from the same day a year ago, when the show attracted 2.7 million viewers, reports the New York Post. What's more, the show also increased its numbers among its sweet-spot audience, women 18-49 years old.

Of course, it's been a good week for debuting talk and news programs. Katie Couric's first night as the anchor of the "CBS Evening News" drew a huge 9.1 rating, more than doubling the rating from the year before. And "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" opened its fourth season on Monday with a record 3.3 rating, which was nearly 30 percent better than its season premiere from 2005.

Reality Princesses Engage in Boy-Swapping

Just as things appear to be heating up between Nicole Richie and Brody Jenner, it seems that Jenner's ex-girlfriend Kristin Cavallari and Richie's ex-fiance Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein might be getting together as well. Two separate sources today report that the pair, in New York for a Guess anniversary party and other events, hung out together at celeb-boite Bungalow 8. Lloyd Grove says they were there until 4 a.m. "cuddling" while Page Six says Cavallari "chatted up" Goldstein until 3. Still, they did arrive at Capitale for the Guess gala together, though AM's rep insists that the two are "just friends."

Lionel Worried That Nicole Will Become Next Princess Di

Meanwhile, pop legend Lionel Richie says that he took his daughter Nicole to a doctor because he was worried about her dramatic weight loss, and that the doctor assured him that she isn't afflicted with anorexia, despite the pictorial evidence. "I stood in front of [the doctor], just like you and I now, looked him in the eyes, and I said 'Is it anorexia?'" says Richie, in the Swedish newspaper Expressen (via MSNBC). "And he said, 'It isn't anorexia.'"

Lionel attributes Nicole's weight issues to stress, and says that he lives "with the constant fear that Nicole is going to become the next Princess Diana" because she is followed so relentlessly by the paparazzi. "I always know when Nicole is on her way home because she is always followed by a helicopter and seven cars. It's harassment," says Richie.

Four More Years For Letterman

David Letterman will be coming to your late-night TV screen for at least four more years. According to sources cited by the Hollywood Reporter, Letterman is "close to finalizing" a contract extension with CBS that will keep him as the host of "The Late Show with David Letterman" through the 2009-2010. There was never any doubt that the deal with be made, says the sources, and it will keep Dave on the air one year longer than Jay Leno, who is slated to finish his tenure on "The Tonight Show" sometime in 2009.

This round of negotiations stands in stark contrast to the last time the two sides had to make a deal over four years ago, when Letterman felt underappreciated by CBS and nearly jumped ship to ABC.

Party Favors: Aiken Named To Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities, Spielberg and Lloyd Webber Get Kennedy Nods, Paris' Grandma Was Reportedly A Mob Moll

According to the White House, former "American Idol" runner-up Clay Aiken has been named to the President's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities. The committee was originally formed in 1961 by President Kennedy as the President's Panel on Mental Retardation. Aiken has worked as a YMCA counselor ... Andrew Lloyd Webber, Steven Spielberg, Dolly Parton, Smokey Robinson, and conductor Zubin Mehta have been anointed this year's Kennedy Center honorees ... Paris Hilton's grandmother, according to a new book about the Hilton family, was married to a notorious gangland figure when her daughter Kathy – Paris' mom – fell in love with her dad, says Page Six. The underworld figure isn't named, but Paris has talked about her grandmother being "her best friend."

61. I enjoyed listening and watching all four of the ladies on the view. That is what it is, "their view.".

62. I usually NEVER watch the view (too boring), but when I heard that Rosie O'Donnell was coming on I decided to give it a try again. Rosie adds comedy and interest to The View. I'll watch as long as Rosie stays on the show. Rosie attracts women of all ages and of all sexual orientations to the show.

63. I watched the show all week~not being a Rosie fan I was somewhat pleased the first day~BUT~here we go again with The Rosie Show~boo hoo~I'm still not a Rosie fan! She seems to be doing most of the talking~ONE THING I DO LIKE IS THAT THEY HAVE STOPPED ALL TALKING AT THE SAME TIME~I did notice that when one interrrupted the other they waited for one to finish~I do like that better~
I don't get it what Barbara's trying to do~she's sitting there like she's afraid to say anything. I just see all of these give aways boring, unless your are there~it's sort of nice, but really every show & then to discredit the gifts is not too polite of Rosie.
Rosie will be shooting her Phoos Balls before long~

64. ROSIE is GREAT!!! She adds A LOT to the show...The View before was starting to boring...same ol same ol, just about every day until "The Star" burnt out, too. Loved Rosie's own show...love the View now as well!!!
She adds the spark that has SORELY been needed for some time! AND all the giveaways being done on the show now, are FROM HER!!! From her own pocket, as this has always been "her thing" from her own show.
Can't wait to see who they start "trying out" for the other co-host position, so Barbara can get one with her "retirement". Should make for many more interesting shows!!!
So GO ROSIE...You are GREAT!!!! And as always...if you don't like the show...change the channel!!!!
And some of you need to lighten up...it's JUST a TV SHOW!!!!

65. It's great having Rosie join the View!! She adds a new energy and is lots of fun. I enjoyed the View before and I still enjoy it!! It will only get better.

66. I loved the NEW VIEW. I think Rosie makes it more interesting and
a lot more fun. If there is tension, it can only make the show better.
Good Luck Rosie, and to all the other Ladies. Keep up the good work.

67. I use to watch the View only once in awhile and then only for afew minutes as I could not stand all of the noise. Those 4 women could all talk at the same time but I watched it every day last week and will continue to do so as long as it is as entertaining as it was last week. Rosie certainly does add some life to that show and a giveaway once in awhile can't hurt either. I would love to be in that audience and get a two night cruise gift. Margaret

68. Rosie is brilliant and real. She should have her own show again - she has so much more to say than the rest of the hosts. It may not work out, but she needs a show to share her insights and humor.

69. I was upset to learn that Rosie would be joining the view -- what a mis-match.
I did watch the other morning tho and she looked so much better than I anticipated. She actually had her hair done and makeup on -- wow! I still don't think that she will add much to the show -- except to annoy everyone. She is still a big mouth. I think Oprah's Gail would be a nice addition.

70. Rosie is a misfit , wonder why she hired. She is brash & displeasing to listen to & to watch. I'll discontinue watching the "View".

71. ROSIE O'DONNELL IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR TO THE VIEW! I HAD CHANGED TO CHANEL WHEN THE VIEW HAS COME ON OUR LOCAL STATION FOR QUITE SOME TIME. I DO LIKE MEREDITH VIERRA, SO I'LL CATCH HER ON DAYS OFF ON THE TODAY SHOW.....ROSIE ALSO BRINGS NEW LIFE TO BARBAR, JOY AND ELISABETH.....THE TEMPO AND TOPICS ARE NEW AND INTERESTING. I WATCHED EVERY DAY.....IN PERSON OR TIVO....THANKS FOR SOMETHING NEW AND REFRESHING IN OUR DAYTIME TV CHOICES! SHARRON FARUP OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON

72. Rosie: Brilliant! Yes, she steal the show -- but the entertainment value is higher than ever. Barbara acts as though she is constantly monitoring Rosie's words. Lighten up, Barbara --you're adding unnecessary tension. Bravo to Rosie...

73. I'm so happy to see Rosie back on T.V. even if it is on the view. I think she has saved the show because I stopped watching it about two years ago. The women of the view were so anoying always talking at the same time you couldn't understand what was said. I noticed that Rosie has started to talk several times and stopped when someone else started to talk to and let them have their piece. On the old view that wouldn't have happened. I look forward to watching and tape it if I can't. Tell Elizabeth to lighten up she looks like she wants to punch Rosie sometimes. You go Rosie

Posted at 5:45PM on Sep 10th 2006 by Kathy

74. I love the veiw and since Rosie came on it is even better. To all who have negative thigs about Rosie they are just nuts for not liking her maybe its because they are homophobic and just can't get past it.She is great. Get a grip folks

75. This show was on it's way down the drain, once Merideth left! Rosie is breathing new life into The View! I hope she stays so I can continue to watch again. Elizabeth tries too hard to force her opinions down everyones throat. Barbara has lost her credibiliaty for being honest after the Star thing and Joy looks disinterested in everything these past few months! I think Rosie is honest, funny and enjoys her audience. Something that I think the other girls have lost sight of.
