Crikey! It's Khaki Friday

The outpour of emotion in Australia over the death of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin continues as Australians were urged by media and political figures to participate in "Khaki Friday." Irwin, who was killed when a stingray's barb stabbed him through the heart as he was filming a wildlife documentary off the coast of Australia, had a huge international following as a conservationist.

What began as a chain email has erupted into a national obsession as fans were urged to wear the trademark khakis Irwin always wore in public. An icon in his native Australia, Steve Irwin's family is planning a private funeral and a large public memorial service so fans can pay their last respects.

16. I am really going to miss the Croc Hunter - he was such a nice man and his message was so important. I just wish he'd had more time with his children. I saw Bindi on TV and she is so precious - poor Bob will probably not remember his father except from seeing videos of him. Terri will undoubtedly carry on his mission.
In this time when there is so much upheaval in the world, it was nice to be able to forget all that and just enjoy watching a Steve Irwin show.

21. Never has a man affected the world such as Steve Irwin. His passion and love for his world is in the class of Princess Diana. His work within the animal kingdom came natural to him from youth to manhood. His family joined in sometimes when he worked making them a part of all he loved. I still grieve over what the world has lost. May his family know how much he truly will be missed. A devoted fan Shirley
