Skewing The View on "The View"

The denizens of "The View" did a startling switcheroo on their audience today. After walking out, Barbara Walters took the seat at the opposite end of the table from Rosie O'Donnell, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck sat next to Rosie, bringing the two most combustible elements amongst the co-hosts together. Joy Behar stayed in her customary just-right-of-center spot.

Barbara explained that they'd been sitting in the same seats for some time, and that this would "shake things up" a little; Joy then joked that there was an imprint on her chair from all the years of gluteal pressure. And Rosie had piped in on her blog at rosie.com over the weekend, saying that she thought she looked like "gigantor the spaceage robot" sitting next to Barbara, as she had in week one. In fact, according to Rosie, her physical presence loomed so large that they cut 3 inches off her chair by the second day's broadcast. (An ABC rep says it won't be the last switch and that they're done "at the discretion of production.")

And if "View" watchers were hoping that proximity would ignite some sparks between Ro and Elisabeth, it didn't happen, even though two highly flinty topics came up, gay marriage and the war in Iraq.

But the signal moment of today's show was surely Barbara Walters' suggestion that her dog had talked to her. She told her co-hosts that she leaned down to tell her Havanese dog Cha-Cha "I love you," and that the dog actually responded "I love you" back. It now appears that Joy Behar is now the most psychologically sound person on the show. Stay tuned.

16. Is this all that the View has to offer? switching chairs. And B.W talking to dogs now! Sounds like the makings of a Canceled Show. Mmmmm

17. Oh c'mon, none of the above tops Rosie's cure for diaper rash. Did you hear her? She said a doctor recommended letting a dog lick the baby's butt. The doc said there was an antiseptic on the dog's tongue. They went to commercial and that was the end of that.

18. I used to always watch the Rosie O'Donnel show and loved it, but don't think Rosie belongs on The View. She has really become obnoxious and her opinions are a little too extreme. I probably won't continue to watch The View as long as Rosie is on. Bad move ABC

19. I was shocked when Rosie claimed Christians were responsible for more deaths in this country than radical Islamics. One day after 9/11 that was just too much. I will just find something else to do until Rosie gets her hysterical ass kicked off yet another show. She's stupid and she's rude.

20. #11 Correct if I am wrong but were they not speaking Spanish here before they were speaking English?? All of the immigrants that have come over, did they learn English right away? The people that are here that speak only Spanish are 1st generation immigrants. This country is made up of people of all creeds and colors and I think that is the question being raised, with Star gone there is not color on the panel. I do not think that anyone here is being racist, well except you maybe.

21. Personally, I like Elizabeth and think that she adds a different view to the show...which if I remember correctly is the Whole Point of the show!! I also agree with one of the comments before stating that neither Rosie or Elizabeth are ignorant enough to go off on eachothe. I also want to applaude Elizabeth for being able to stand up for what she believes against all the other women and most of the world that believe so differently...I wish there was more of that!!

22. OK.....I truly thought I had been unfair in not watching The View anymore. Today
when Rosie gave her cure for diaper rash, that was the end. ABC/Barbra Walters,
you might want to rethink keeping Rosie on the panel. How disgusting could
she BE ?? Today was it. Never again will I even think about watching this
show. Lord help us all.

23. And the insanity continues ---
So now the View has to express the views of only Barb and Joy and Liz can just shut up? Since when???

This is why I don't bother to watch the View---it is boring. One-sided up and down the aisle and Rosie is not helping. Rosie may even be a little stupid. She never seems to know how to police her mouth.

And if you want to know why Barb moved her seat, it's because she looked like a shmuck sitting next to HUGE Rosie.
I think adding Rosie was A BIG MISTAKE.
But I agree with her---I still like Tom Cruise--a little couch-jumping does not bother me. If that is the WORST thing he does as a celebrity--he has nothing to worry about.

24. #11--If you think California is bad, trying getting around southeast Florida without a Spanish-English dictionary--plus a can of mace to fend off the Hispanic trash.

25. OK. I thought I would give the show the benefit of the doubt. I said I wasnt
going to watch anymore. So today I turned it on and was drinking my
coffee, when Rosie gave her cure for diaper rash. I had coffee coming
out of my nose. Seriously, Ms. Walters you might want to rethink hiring
someone who is totally grossing everyone out. I mean it. I will never
again watch the show. As I said in a previous comment, I miss the old
View.

27. #11 I competely agree...what difference does it make...I am so sick and tired of the "racist" card being played over and over. "this is so racist" ..give me a break. If the minorities are so unhappy here, they can stay or return to their homelands. If some blacks think everything here is "racist" (because Star Jones, a selfish diva was asked to leave) perhaps they can devote time to helping the people of Africa..want to see some real racism, watch the news, and see the killing, starvation, destruction of thousands of people. I am sick to death of that racism line...I have no problem with any person wanting to live in the USA; however, please learn English, respect our flag, our language, become Americans not simply transplants from your homeland.

28. #11. The Native Americans will be surprised to learn that the people spoke Spanish. As a matter of fact, the NA get a lot of harrassment from hispanics.
And the hispanics come from countries where natives are even considered as having no souls!

#19. I worked at the IRS, 15 yrs.ago, with a young, white man, who was being transferred from Calif. to Miami. He was elated at moving to Florida. A year later, he came back, rather subdued, because he had met with so much prejudice from Cubans in key positions, there.

#25.- You're looking at Tommy through rose-colored glasses!

29. I sorth of watch the show over the pass years. Don't like Rosie at all. Now I really don't watch the show all. I am not the only one.

30. Rosie's comments today about the dog licking her children's butt was every bit over the line as Starr Jones making her announcement. I truly hope to turn on the show tomorrow and see Barbara Walters announcing that Rosie O'Donnell will no longer be on The View!
