TV's Top News Ladies: Will They Sink or Swim?

With Meredith Vieira's debut on "Today" this morning, the game of musical anchor chairs between Vieira, Katie Couric and Rosie O'Donnell is now complete. So we're left to wonder: which of these women will score big in the ratings and which will fall flat on her face?

Couric scored 13 million viewers in her debut as anchor of "The CBS Evening News" and, while her audience declined slightly by week's end, she still led NBC and ABC by three million viewers. But week two has gotten off to a poor start as Katie dropped to third place on Monday with 7.49 million viewers, slightly behind ABC's 7.87 million and NBC's 8.27 million.

Katie anchored Monday's newscast, the fifth anniversary of 9/11, from Ground Zero and seemed to have trouble holding back tears as she closed the telecast.

While rumors of Rosie O'Donnell clashing with her fellow "View" co-hosts have surfaced (who didn't see that coming?), Rosie's debut on the show also equaled ratings gold -- four million people tuned in, a 54% bump over the same day last year.

Sources have told TMZ that Rosie has complained about the show's production and that Elisabeth Hasselbeck has been openly hostile to her. Rosie even butted heads with Barbara Walters before Rosie even debuted -- Walters didn't approve of Rosie's cryptic blog messages she wrote on her site.

Rosie's rep denies rumors of bad blood, saying, "Everyone gets along great."

And finally, it will take a few days to see how Meredith Vieira does in her new locale, but the former "View"-er did show signs of at least being somewhat nervous (who wouldn't be?) as she flubbed a line on her first toss to commercial break.

16. I absolutely hate every single one of these ugly bitches. I hope Meredith, Katie and Rosie all get fired because they do not deserve the enormous salaries they are getting paid and they are just one big pain in the ass. I think the view sucks I feel for elisabeth having to be on a show with a bunch of old bags the reason that they did not hire a women with morals that is closer to there age is because they new that they would not be able to shut that person up like they do elisabeth they blow off what she says as if she is young and stupid when she is the only one with good sense and morals has anyone even listen to what comes out of rosies mouth she lets a dog like her kids butt what she needs is those kids tobe taken away from her joy is not funny she is a big mouth and if you don't agree with her she rolls her eyes like a teenager and shakes her head and makes faces barbra needs to just go home she looks like she is out of it at times I hate the show I only wanted to watch for support for elisabeth but not any more elisabeth needs a new job design your on line of clothes or something but get out while you can

21. Meredith is a gem. Rosie needs to watch the shows & hold back a little. BUT she was right on today when interviewing Mike Boogie. He is both disgusting & contemptible & Rosie was the only one who was not afraid to say what most of us were thinking. She deserves a lot of credit for her candor & I admire her for standing up to this chilltown clown.

24. I did not know Rosie before (came to the US in 2004), and I love her on The View! She must be in my age (I guess?), and she is very much speaking my (german) mind.
Be it the threat from fundamental christians in THIS country, or her approach as real mom towards some weird concepts of selling moms stupid products they don't need, or be it the WELL-DESERVED asskick The Booger needed so badly. She delivered, and I am really a fan now!

I am watching every morning now! Can't wait to find out who the fifth co-host will eventually be. The View is my favourite show at the moment, and not only chosen from daytime shows. Cheers to Rosie, and cheers to Barbara Walters who had the guts to hire her!

25. It is great that Rosie is back, I really enjoyed her show and was sad she decided to quit. I do think she needs to give the others a little more time to respond---it seems to be her and Barbara. I do not care for Elisabeth because in all fairness to her, I do not share her political views and side with Rosie on that. I've read that she doesn't want to say too much, but I think it is because of all the flack she received last summer on her views of the Morning After Pill. She should express her opinion, but not go on and on. What's up with Joy? She seems angry and scarcastic most of the time.

26. TMZ--You should've done your poll on who took the worst picture--Meridith, Katie, or Rosie!! Could you have POSSIBLY found any more unflattering pictures, especially of Rosie?

27. First of all they should have gotten rid of everyone, with the exception of Barbara Walters!

Joy is too outspoken and is equally obnoxious as Rosie and that Elizabeth is way to conservative for a talk show. She needs to be on other show all by itself.

Now with all the gift giving to the audience, elmos, books and mess that's not going to boots ratings! It's a desperate move to get people to watch that pitiful show.

I say give Star Jones another opportunity to have her very own show called: Star and her View! I'd love it ! And I am sure other's will too. But she's black-balled now... unlike Elizabeth, she's not kissing Barbara behind!

28. The ratings for The View are up right now because of pure curiosity, but in the long run people will tire of Rosie. They hardly ever talk about "hot topics" without her going into one of her rants. She is really irritating. She is always referring to her old show. She is not good for a group show, I'm not saying she isn't trying, she just is not the one. Gail King would have been a much better choice.

29. I used to love the view, hated to miss it! Meredith brought the show together each morning with her smile and hello, her newspaper and topics. She has class, unlike rosie, and seemed to get along with everyone at the table. Joy is great to watch and listen to as well. She and Meredith were often on the same wave length, whereas Elisabeth is so conservative it's almost funny! Now, I can't even listen to my favorite part of the show, "Hot Topics", since BIG MOUTH rosie does all the talking and doesn't let Joy or Elisabeth get enough in. Joy doesn't even have the room to be as funny as she usually is without Meredith there. They seemed to work well together. This is the New Rosie Show! Goodbye "The View".
