"Dog" Chapman Arrested, Faces Extradition

Duane MSNBC's Rita Cosby is reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapmans were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Dog's wife, Beth Chapman, said 12 armed marshals "came through the door" at 6:00AM this morning. She said they took their daughter's boyfriend down at gunpoint. Dog was sleeping at the time.

TMZ spoke with Nicky Credic from the U.S. Marshals Office. She said, "The arrest warrant was signed by a U.S. magistrate in Hawaii on September 13. The warrant was based on a formal request based on a diplomatic note from the government of Mexico."

1726. No, it is me, the one you know and appreciate!!!!!!!

Just wondering, has the FBI been to your house yet? How about the padded wagon??? :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) If they come for me, I am going to tell them "SUNSHINE made me do it".
I had a busy day but had to check in after the show to see what you die hards were up too. I got a chuckle with Rita, it took me a minute when she said there were some "vocal" something, I thought she was speaking of supporters, and I was totally convinced for a second she was speaking of you and BMFM, I laughed so hard it took me a second to realized she meant the nasty critics not the vocal supporters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1727. I was shocked to hear what has happened. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Dog, his family and friends. I am a law abiding citizen, never have been in trouble but have had my fair share in our court system fighting for what is right. I have seen our legal system break laws, not enforce laws so we need to not only look at what Mexico is doing but our own. Why is our legal system allowing this to happen when they were only doing this to protect women and doing the goverments job!!! Was this guy not on the FBI's list? I know the expense this will cost, beyound what most of us will be able to imagine. Sometimes I beleive our court system is about making money not about withholding the laws.

1731. The Mexican goverment is totally corrupt and bogus. The rich few have everything and the many poor nothing. That's why the many come here. Why doesn't Bush and Fox fix that?! Pres Fox and his government are a joke! Duane "Dog" Chapman and his crew did what needed to be done. The corrupt ferderal's in Mexico wouldn't and they wouldn't extrodite a wanted Cult poligimist (Warren Jeffs) so why the Hell should the US government go along with extroditing Dog? Just another example of our Bush administrations good ole boy network at work. Ole' GW is a good ole boy buddy of Elpresidente Fox so he wont help. Bet he will even tell the Justice Dept. to go along with it. Wake Up America! Tell GW what you think of him and what you want. after all, We Are, "We the People"!

1734. I myself having three daughters must stand behind Dog. He and his family should be commended for what they did, not jailed. I do know one thing, I will never again vacation in Mexico. They give me the impression, they want criminals walking their streets. This is only my stand and opinion. May God bless and keep The Chapman Family.

1735. Luster was convicted of 86 counts of Rape in the US. US goverment failed to find and extradite him back to the US. Duane (DOG) Chapman with the help of his brother and son do what our gov. has failed to do. Their charges where misdeamenors in Mexico at the time. Do the math folks he gave the US gov. agencies a black eye, why else would a US magistrate sign the warrants. Could the old saying be coming true ( Money talks and BS walks), could be that the Factor family are hoping that if they get the charges upheld that they cuould possibly get luster boy out on a technicallity. One final note why isn`t the mexican gov. trying to find and extradite any of their felony offenders back to Mexico.

1736. Dog if you can't do the time don't do the crime in mexico. you broke the law you go to jail

Posted at 1:57AM on Sep 21st 2006 by nathan

1737. I am so sad about all of this! It sickens me that he would be charged whether it is against the law or not, the law probably wasn't aimed at this kind of incident. Well then give factor dude back to them and let factor live in mexico..... or let him run their streets raping women? I mean what do they want? Nobody wants to see someone out hurting others SO GET REAL MEXICO!!!! They just want the money in the hefty fine they will ask for ..... DAMN YOU PEOPLE!!!! Our president needs to help out the people doing good things for his counrty instead of supporting negative stuff..... get with it Mr Bush

1738. This really stinks,.do you think if the u.s. requested a extradition for somebody in mexcio, they would send them over here? i think not. Especially when they haven,t done anything wrong. I think our goverment needs to tell the mexican goverment a few things, mainly you,re not getting him. Also what kind of treatment is this for duane chapman and his family?something is fishy.

1739. I think it is absolutely the most terrible thing that the U.S. government has allowed, this arrest of dog Chapman after all the good work that he has done to keep the streets safe for so many people. I live in northern Canada and my heart goes out to the Chapman family . I believe that God takes care of those who believe in him, and he will take care of the Chapman family. I will keep you all in my prayers and hope for the very best. Thank you for all you do for mankind.
