"Dog" Chapman Arrested, Faces Extradition

Duane MSNBC's Rita Cosby is reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapmans were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Dog's wife, Beth Chapman, said 12 armed marshals "came through the door" at 6:00AM this morning. She said they took their daughter's boyfriend down at gunpoint. Dog was sleeping at the time.

TMZ spoke with Nicky Credic from the U.S. Marshals Office. She said, "The arrest warrant was signed by a U.S. magistrate in Hawaii on September 13. The warrant was based on a formal request based on a diplomatic note from the government of Mexico."

1741. This just shows how messed up the justice system is. They are treating "DOG" & his family like they are the criminals. The Chapmans took one more sick rapist person off the streets, risk their own lives and look what happens. This is wrong. I watched your T.V. Special tonight 9/19, this show really touched my heart to see the Chapmans go through this. My daughter & I watched the Bounty Hunter every Tuesday night, your family has become a part of our family. Our hearts go out to you. Like Beth said the Lord will get then through this tough time. My love & prayers are with the whole Chapman Family.

1742. It is hard to believe that our own government would waste the taxpayers time and money to apprehend a man and his family whose only goal was to keep it's citizens safe from a convicted rapist. This is truely a tragedy.... We wish the best of luck to the entire Chapman family!!!

1743. I feel that Dog, Leland and Tim are being used as pawns for some big deal between the States and Mexico. How many times do you hear of terrible injustice that goes on. Someone mentioned about no travel to Mexico you bet. My prayers are with the Chapman family and may some law abiding high powered person free them for this. I pray this is not a case of money talks (Luster).

1744. Aweh! I'm soooo MEXICAN OUT it's not even funny. No more Mexican food or anything Mexican OR Max Factor for me. I'm glad I haven't been to Mexico for vacations, otherwise I'd be bitter about giving my U.S dollars over to them.
LEAVE DA DOG & HIS POUND ALONE!

1745. This is sign of where our country is going . A man , his best friend and his son go to mexico looking for someone that th US can't touch and finds him. Now the mexican gov't need to look the fact that this man was going to coment the same crimes. I believe that the judge that agreed to this injustice need to come and answer some questions. DOG I'll pray for you and know that this is a comment of your faith

1746. IF Dog & pack took the guy out of Mexico illegally then WHY has it taken 3 years or more before Mexico has brough attention/action against that?
Also if this guy was an American why would Mexican Gvt get involved with the case - it muct have been profitable to someone to have this character hiding out in Mexico....

1747. There is something seriously wrong with this picture....Dog nabs a rapist and the Mexican government is complaining because he doesn't follow protocal? Then our Fed guys go with it and arrest their brother like a murderer??

Seems wisdom has gone out the door along with public servants caring/handling and maintaining the dignity of our fellow man!

1749. As a American living in Texas i'll be more than happy to be the first one standing in line to boycott tourism in Mexico!!!This is a travesty!!If our politicians cant get it right, then we need to stand up and do the job ourselves. My son was robbed at gunpoint by a cabdriver while on springbreak and the police were standing 10 yards away. I dont have to say they did nothing!!!People lets rally behind Dog and his family and stop visiting this crime ridden , corrupt country. The beaches are just as nice in puerto rico with A merican laws...that are enforced. prayin for ya dog!!!

1752. Think its odd that the Mexican Goverment will request extradition for D. Chapman but is so Un-Cooperative about assisting or honoring our extradition requests. I see Max Factor Heir money at work here.

Curious if the Federal Authorities are going to be as cooperative and as eager to please with domestic Interference with Custody Cases (IE Parental kidnapping ect.) I Doubt it.

The State Department needs to consider its prioritys in spending our tax money and remember elections are comming soon.

A Career Cops Thoughts on the Matter

1753. I was at aawwww after seeing yesterday special. You know watching the past episodes the “Bounty Hunter” at times I would think the verbal tactics and the wanna be police tactics was outrageous. But I got to thinking although this is their job I bet some of this behavior was for the show. I tend to see them as “characters”.
For the first time I actually seen Beth as a person, wife, and mother. I was so sad for her and her family. She is actually the strong person in the family.
Dog was right they won’t survive in the Federal jail although it’s better than State prison. I you can forget about Mexican prison.
We can boycott all products from Mexico but we also have to remember are OWN (US) government has some responsibility to this also. It’s so easy to point the blame on the obvious but we have some issues at home.
