"Dog" Chapman Arrested, Faces Extradition

Duane MSNBC's Rita Cosby is reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapmans were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Dog's wife, Beth Chapman, said 12 armed marshals "came through the door" at 6:00AM this morning. She said they took their daughter's boyfriend down at gunpoint. Dog was sleeping at the time.

TMZ spoke with Nicky Credic from the U.S. Marshals Office. She said, "The arrest warrant was signed by a U.S. magistrate in Hawaii on September 13. The warrant was based on a formal request based on a diplomatic note from the government of Mexico."

1756. Not only am I a bail bond agent/bounty hunter, but I am also a woman who is very proud of Dog for taking a serial rapist off of the streets. Ask these U.S. Marshalls or the Mexican Govt., what if this was your daughter, sister, neice or wife? Keep up the good work, Dog, Leland, and Tim!

1757. I watched the show on Dog and his family's arrests on TV last night. It made me furious that they were treated in such a fashion by the same people they help every day. What can we do to force our government to tell the Mexican government where to go and protect Dog and his family?

1759. The timing of the arrests of Dog, Tim and Leland is all about politics---not justice. Mexico is trying to sell the idea that US citizens in Mexico need to obey Mexican laws, just as the US wants Mexicans to obey US laws. Since that sounded like I approved of what happened, I need to say, I DON'T APPROVE OF ARRESTING DOG AND HIS CREW. Look at the goodness of these people and the service they provided to the MEXICAN people by getting a convicted rapist off the streets of Puerta Vallarta!! 'Nuff said.

1761. Is it me but does Beth looks different? She looks prettier. Perhaps less make-up or in fact lost some weight? or marriage?
What ever she is doing it looks good.

Best wishes to the Dog family

1762. This is so sad that the American government is thinking about sending Dog, Leland and Tim to Mexico where the conditions could be compared to some of the POW Camps that we have fought so hard to keep our soldiers out of. What are they thinking. Dog did the right thing and the Mexican government is just mad. I hope that the American government will come to its senses soon, before they allow those three brave men to be sent there.

1763. I think Dog did the right thing! He got a rapist off the streets and now he wont be hurting anymore woman. That is the important think here. I cant believe they want to put him in jail for getting the guy. It is so wrong! The justice system these days is very unfair and very screwed up. Dog and his family do nothing but go by the law and help in any way they can. They are a wounderful family and I dont think that they deserve any of this treatment.

1764. The people who are writing sound like idiots. Anyone who really got into this show realizes the depth and sincerity of these people, all of them. When Dog cries (on TV) about a child of his who died or one that's in jail, or one that just recently died in a car accident, anyone with half a brain must relate to this gentle soul. I love The Dog, his wife, his children, his friends, and most of all, I anxiously await the show.

1765. I think that it is bull that Dog is being punished for something that nobody else could do.He saved alot of women from being hurt and humiliated.Maybe someone we know and or love.My hat is off to ya Dog,Tim and Leland.Blessed Be Chapman's.Being arrested three years later is crazy, looks like money talks.

1766. And this is the judicial system in the US. Sens the Mexican Gov't a $20.00 bill and a pack of smokes and see if they will drop the charges. DOG! Maybe you should run for public office now in Hawaii, maybe Govenor or something. I would bet that you WOULD WIN! Beth could also do a better job as the Director of the US Marshal's Office!

1767. First of all, "Dog" Chapman is a hero to many. He's real. More families need to watch their dynamics. WOW!!!!

Second, can anyone explain to me, WHY did the Mexican police DRIVE HIM TO THE FUGITIVE, watch him drive away with him then follow him down the road to ARREST HIM....They knew what he was doing when he went over there. Let's get real. Let the Chapman's do their job, which by the way, no one else has been able to do.

To the Chapman's: May God bless you and be with you all. Keep your faith!!!!

1770. I watched the A&E special last night "Dog: The Family Speaks." After three years, the Mexican government now wants to bring charges against Dog? What is the statue of limitation on this anyway?
I'm actually not surprised by this considering the former Mexican president made drug possession legal prior to his leaving office.
The Mexican government either wants money or to export more illegals or both.
