"Dog" Chapman Arrested, Faces Extradition

Duane MSNBC's Rita Cosby is reporting that Duane Dog Chapman, star of the A&E reality series "Dog the Bounty Hunter," and two members of his bounty hunting team (including his son) were arrested by U.S. officials today for extradition to Mexico. Cosby is reporting that Mexican government officials wanted the three men sent back there in relation to a three-year-old case.

In 2003, Chapman traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico to retrieve Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster, who was wanted in the U.S. on rape charges. Luster is now in jail, serving a 124-year term. The Chapmans were jailed in Mexico for a brief time for the incident three years ago. Bounty hunting is considered a crime in Mexico.

Dog's wife, Beth Chapman, said 12 armed marshals "came through the door" at 6:00AM this morning. She said they took their daughter's boyfriend down at gunpoint. Dog was sleeping at the time.

TMZ spoke with Nicky Credic from the U.S. Marshals Office. She said, "The arrest warrant was signed by a U.S. magistrate in Hawaii on September 13. The warrant was based on a formal request based on a diplomatic note from the government of Mexico."

3257. Time to put your racists comments to bed and just remember that the Dog is doing great justice cleaning up the streets of filth, weather it be here in the US or in Mexico. I hope all works out in the end for Dog and his crew. We love you Dog.

3258. Hi all,

Well I am from the UK and I think this stinks! We all have our views on how each nation reacts and does things but I think people having ill feeling toward America in this case can only be seen as wrong. Dog was doing his job - what he does best - and doing it better than local law enforcement. The Mexican govt really needs to bear in mind that their own goons couldnt catch this b*stard so a guy who had been in the business for years was the best man for it! It doesnt matter where he came from, what he believes or what he looks like - none of that matters! The fact is - he made the streets safer for all of us by putting that rapist away and now he is being punished. The law in Mexico doesnt allow for bounty hunting thats for sure but I am certain that in this case that a little more discretion should have been used before slamming Dog for doing the right thing. Laws aside.....he did what any human would do if they could.....bring a disrespectful, unlawful and inhumane b*stard to justice!

I fear for the future as to whether Dog will continue his fight for the right. If this is how he is treated - he may think twice! I know I would. Sad will be the day when that happens - God help us all!

Peace out

Jon.

3259. The U.S. govt. should be ashamed if they let this extradition of Dog take place. This is totally unpatriatic. What kind of country hands over its own law abiding citizens to another country? The USA has no reason to bow down to Mexico. Dog was only doing his job and should be rewarded rather than punished.
