Apologies to Matt Damon ...

For reasons we can't explain, yet find completely hysterical, Jimmy Kimmel has made a tradition of closing out episodes of the third season of "Jimmy Kimmel Live" by saying something like, "Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time" -- when Damon was never scheduled to be on the show.

Well on Wednesday's primetime special, "Jimmy Kimmel Live's All-Star Salute to Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Damon finally got his chance to appear on the show -- only Jimmy's introduction ran a bit long, so Damon was cut short once again.

And as you can see in the clip, Damon (quite the good sport for going along with the joke) didn't take the news too well. Maybe next time, Matt!

33. i dont think it was a joke. matt mentioned having a life and having a newborn, it doesnt seem to me that he would mention that if he was joking, not to mention you can act mad all you want but usually your face only turns red when you are angry............if it was acting he deserved that oscar, but the things he was saying were just too personal in my opinion

35. From what I can tell, this was not a joke but a real incident. Bill Simmons, the sportswriter, is good friends with Kimmel and actually wrote for his show for a while... today in an ESPN chat Bill responded to this question:

Please tell us what really happened with Matt Damon on the Jimmy Kimmel show.

Bill Simmons: (1:55 PM ET ) Jimmy will get mad at me for this, but screw it - Damon was supposed to be the last act of the show, and they screwed up the time and only gave him like 45 seconds, he didn't even get a chance to show a clip from his movie. So Damon totally flipped out, it was like the scene from Good Will Hunting when he flips out on the math professor. I can't believe nobody made a bigger deal about it. Everyone thought it was a setup but it actually happened, Jimmy was pretty shaken afterwards.

36. Interesting...however I have to say that, if it was staged, then the producers would have aired more of his getting angry earlier before cutting into credits. But if you look closely at the reaction of Jimmy Kimmel, he is compeletely taken aback by Damon's reactions, discounting the idea that it was staged. Actors usually are not afraid to curse on stage if this is how they feel. On the flipside, why is there the point in introducing all the previous clips were Matt Damon could not appear on the show?
