Please Let the Dog Out!

A petition has been created online to support Duane "The Dog" Chapman, as a plea to set him free. The petition asks both the U.S. and Mexican governments to drop all warrants and charges against Dog, Leland (his son), and Tim Chapman (no relation).

Dog was arrested September 14
by U.S. Marshals on a request from the Mexican government. The request stems from Dog's 2003 apprehension of Max Factor heir and fugitive from justice Andrew Luster in Mexico. Luster jumped his $1 million bail while on trial for drugging and raping several women in Southern California, attacks Luster also videotaped. Dog chased Luster to Puerta Vallarta where he arrested him and brought him back to the U.S. The only problem-- bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico and Dog and his co-horts were thrown in the slammer. They were eventually released, but the Mexican government has charged Dog and his associates with kidnapping and want him back down south to face those charges.

Dog was released Friday on $300,000 bail after spending a night in federal lockup. Leland and Tim were both released on $100,000 bail.

The petition reads:

To: USA and Mexican Governments

We, the friends and fans of Duane "Dog, the Bounty Hunter" Chapman, son Leland Chapman and associate Tim Chapman, call for the US and Mexican Governments to drops all warrants and charges against this man who does so much to improve our society and rid the streets of criminals.

Dog Chapman and family captured a very dangerous escaped rapist that was on the run, something that neither the US or Mexican officials could do. Dog Chapman, Leland Chapman and Tim Chapman, are the good guys who help our society everyday. We request and demand their freedom.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

17. I agree to a point. He and his family have caputure alot of criminals such as: felony to appear to court and alot of repeat offenders of drug sales and usage. Which usually inhibits their probation/parole. This is one of the "biggest bounty'" he and his crew had done. Which then got publicity and had thier show.
However on every episode on "the bounty hunter" he always give a lecture how the suspect has broken the law and it is his obligation to make sure he puts these guys back were they belong.
He knowing the laws of were bounty hunters are allowed especially Mexico he knew he was breaking the law. Should the governor in Mexico let him and his crew go ? I say yes, but let this be a lesson to the "wanna be law enforcement": Practice what you preach.

18. What is "ventura" smoking? You think Dog is more of a criminal than Luster? Why in the world would you defend Luster? It makes me think of the phrase -
"Birds of a feather flock together." You better hope Dog is never after you! You seem more concerned over Dog breaking the law than Luster! Dog and his crew serve a great purpose - ridding ours and Mexico's streets of scum! Keep up the great work guys (and Beth)!!! You've got my support!!!

20. How did this turn into an argument about immigration? This is supposed to be about supporting DOG. I am so glad that he got that a**hole and if I had the money I would put up bond for him. There is nothig wrong with Mexicans coming to this country to work and wanting to make themselves better. How do you think the rest of us got here in the first place, I guess no body took history class. Again, thank you so much DOG for what you have done for some people you have no idea how much it means to know that another rapist has been brought to justice.

21. I would like to sign the petition for charges to be dropped. I'm sorry, but if someone is trying to do their job and catch a criminal to bring him back for proper punishment, then so be it. The Mexican government should be told that when they come get everyone of their countries illegal aliens out of the US then we may consider handing over Mr. Chapman, but until everyone that is in the US illegally is picked up, we are keeping the good guys! This is someone who is helping get the criminals off the streets and our government is considering turning him over to the Mexican government, how ridicules.

Thanks for reading.

22. It seems funny that the Mexican Government waits three years to bring Dog to justice. Only after he becomes famous from his A & E show does the Mexican Government deciedes to file kidnapping charges against the Dog and his family members. Something smells rotton in Mexico.

Set the Dog free!!!! Send the Mexican Government a message you mess with the Dog and the Americans bite back!!!!!

24. Tim is not his brother you knuckleheads, they met in Prison (both on drug charges while they were young) a long, long time ago & were amused that they had the same last name. They became quick friends on the inside & that has lasted all these years on the outside. It's a very cool story, saw it on a Montel show some time ago. They also introduced all of of his like 50 kids or how ever many there are. All look like Children of the Corn, blonde hair & blue eyes-great kids though & strong family which is very admirable. Hopefully if they win & get a little money Beth will get a breast reduction-just looking at those things makes it hard for me to breathe & my back ache.

26. No problem with Mexicans, but I do have a problem with the Mexican governement and the US governement teaming up to bring down the good guy. I signed the petition, but there has to be something else we can do. This is so damn frustrating!

30. So if an American goes to Mexico and breaks the law we arrest them and possibly send them back b/c the Mexican government wants to pursue it NOW after 3 years. However, if a Mexican citizen comes the US illegally and breaks our law we give them food stamps and aide. This is my problem with the whole situation. He captured a rapist that went there to get away and hide and who we would have probably never seen again. I dont see how this is kidnapping and i dont see how we get to pick and choose what laws between Mexico and the United States are okay to break and those that are not. This smells of something dirty.
