Please Let the Dog Out!

A petition has been created online to support Duane "The Dog" Chapman, as a plea to set him free. The petition asks both the U.S. and Mexican governments to drop all warrants and charges against Dog, Leland (his son), and Tim Chapman (no relation).

Dog was arrested September 14
by U.S. Marshals on a request from the Mexican government. The request stems from Dog's 2003 apprehension of Max Factor heir and fugitive from justice Andrew Luster in Mexico. Luster jumped his $1 million bail while on trial for drugging and raping several women in Southern California, attacks Luster also videotaped. Dog chased Luster to Puerta Vallarta where he arrested him and brought him back to the U.S. The only problem-- bounty hunting is illegal in Mexico and Dog and his co-horts were thrown in the slammer. They were eventually released, but the Mexican government has charged Dog and his associates with kidnapping and want him back down south to face those charges.

Dog was released Friday on $300,000 bail after spending a night in federal lockup. Leland and Tim were both released on $100,000 bail.

The petition reads:

To: USA and Mexican Governments

We, the friends and fans of Duane "Dog, the Bounty Hunter" Chapman, son Leland Chapman and associate Tim Chapman, call for the US and Mexican Governments to drops all warrants and charges against this man who does so much to improve our society and rid the streets of criminals.

Dog Chapman and family captured a very dangerous escaped rapist that was on the run, something that neither the US or Mexican officials could do. Dog Chapman, Leland Chapman and Tim Chapman, are the good guys who help our society everyday. We request and demand their freedom.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned

32. I find this amusing since Mexico is such a lawless country. This was prolly staged by A&E for show footage. Of course, Mexico would only do it for big bucks. I didn't know Mex was in the habit of coming over here to arrest people. Has anyone else ever heard of them doing that?

And, Tim is his brother.

35. guys, tim is not dog's bro...i know that is what they say in the shows opening credits but they call each other brothers because of the closeness that they share...tim's mother was a former bondswoman and tim's father used to rape his half-sisters...he is now in jail!

36. I plan on signing the petition. BTW, Dog and Tim are "blood brothers", that's why Duane refers to Tim as Youngblood all the time.

37. On Dog's website it even says they are not really related.... But they are "brothers" to each other. And besides who ever said you have to be blood related to be family to each other anyway?

39. All of you idiots that call yourselves "fans" of the Dog, please go the the OFFICIAL WEBSITE OF DOG, THE BOUNTY HUNTER and there you will see where it plainly states that Tim Chapman has the same name but is no releation to the Dog. It also has been mentioned on the TV show. He did not go to jail for drug charges but for murder that he says he did not commit. I agree that this is about the Dog, and setting him free, but I just have to say that Mexico should be thankful to Dog and his posse for cleaning up their stinky country. If Mexican immigrants don't like the way they're treated here- ex: "no benefits" get real! Go back to Mexico. Hey, we the Americans are the ones that have to push 1 for english, what does that tell you!! And I agree with #22, I hope they get some of that money and get Beth a breast reduction! I love Beth, but holy moly! How can she she chase convicts with that load! Love ya Dog!

40. First, to #15 you're so ignorant if you knew anything about Mexico you'd know that there are parts of Tijuana that are lovely. And have you been to the slums all over the U.S.? There are dangerous and ugly places EVERYWHERE in the world.

I am Mexican-American and was so sickened to see the racist comments over the last several days here at TMZ. I know that Harvey is here frequently and hope that he puts a stop to this.

Unfortunately, Mexico is indeed a lawless country it's just fact. However, they've extradited criminals in the past even Mexican criminals. This was about money for Dog.

This is for those who call Mexicans coming across the border for work "criminals" well, I have no problem with them coming across if they don't get caught and would have no problem with Dog capturing Luster in Mexico if he hadn't got caught. When a Mexican is caught crossing the border illegally they send him back he doesn't get to stay, they know the risks. Dog knew the risks and now he should have to face the charges.

41. I thought if a crime was commited over a year ago and no legal action had been taken, you were no longer allowed to make a claim or press charges. Of course I learned this in business law which is probably different from criminal law but could someone clear this up for me? I don't understand how if this happened three years ago, they are only now charging him with kidnapping. Shouldn't charges have been pressed in 2003 or 2004? Also, wtf would the Mexican government be thinking to try and jail someone who saved thier country from a rapist creep. It's just cuz he's famous and American I LOVE YOU DOG! HANG IN THERE.

42. To #34 , I have lived in San Diego and yes I know about Tijuana.. And yes I do know parts of Mexico are nice. We might have "slums" as you call them here in the USA, but they aren't third world slums. And you cannot tell me Mexico is safer than here. The fact that we have the rights that we do in this country make us safer. You said you don't care if the illegals are here if they don't get caught? Well I do... I am tired of my tax dollars going to pay for people who don't damn well belong here. I hope Dog beats the charges. God Be with you Dog...

43. Very rich guy commits multiple crimes for years, large bounty is set, very rich guy flees to Mexico where he KNOWS he can stay because in Mexico money talks and everyone knows, but they turn a blind eye. Bounty hunter goes and does what no one else will do and what both governments don't agree to do---get rich criminal and collect known bounty. Criminal returned to US, women cheer, America's Most Wanted is thrilled bounty guy deserves bounty and criminal should face charges. Years go by, bounty guy becomes famous, criminal not serving time, Mexican government cries 'foul' and US agrees to throw bounty guy to the wolves because the 'law' in Mexico should always be upheld when lots of money is at stake. RICH Criminal will probably never go to prison, reformed bounty guy probably will languish in a foreign jail and never receive earned bounty, countless mexican illegals will continue to flow over our borders and commit many more unprosecuted crimes and make lots of money and never have to pay taxes, and someone other than said bounty guy will get the $1 mil he rightfully earned and those who are REALLY in charge in Mexico will laugh gleefully as they count their drug money and issue commands to their puppet President. All's well that ends well........sad, but true...........................
