Terrell Owens Attempts Suicide

Terrell OwensDallas Cowboys wide receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide by overdosing on pain medication Tuesday night, The Associated Press reports this morning, citing a police report.

According to the report, Owens even put two more pills into his mouth after fire rescue personnel arrived and also told rescue workers he was "depressed."

KTVT in Dallas reported that a woman named "Etheridge" -- most likely his publicist, Kim Etheridge -- called police at 7:51PM Tuesday night to report a suicide attempt. The station also reported that Owens took 35 pills.

Owens fractured a bone in his hand in a game on September 18 and had to have a plate screwed into his hand to help it heal properly.

The Cowboys have scheduled a news conference for this afternoon.

51. Some meds out there have side effects that make you completely sick in other ways, nutsy, depressed and sucidal. I would sue the doctors who didn't completely moniter his recovery.. or the drug company to make it public if this is the horrible result.

59. either way it is sad. It is hard to say what goes on in any persons mind. If it was a suicide attempt I hope he gets the help he needs, if it was an accidental drug reacation, I hope more care is given to drug interactions. All this being said, even if you do not like his antics as a player, or think that he is a difficult person to have on team, it is inhumane for people to make comments about not caring if he hurts himself or not. His publicist said in an interview after he was released he has 25 million reasons not to hurt himself. Reality is that no amount of money can take away pain, lonliness, or negative thoughts about ones self. In fact that much money can add to the problem, I have all this and I am still not feeling whole inside. Some times the more attention people draw to themselves is just a sign of trying to prove to their own heart their sense of self worth. I say keep the guy in your thoughts in prayers whether you like him or not.
