Clarity in "Chaos"?

Chaos: Click to watchCould a horror movie have saved Natalee Holloway's life?
The creators of the brutal film "Chaos" make the bold statement that yes, their film could have. Though "Chaos" is not inspired by Holloway's disappearance, the movie is being promoted as an unsettling warning to young women and their parents -- and that stance is causing some controversy.

"The movie is so terrifying and horrific to a young girl, we don't think any young girls who see the movie would leave a bar with two strangers," says producer Steven Jay Bernheim. The movie follows two young women who venture to a rave in the woods. They leave the party with a drug dealer to score some ecstasy, and quickly become the pawns in a psychotic gang's sick game. The two suffer through torture, rape and murder and, as some reviews have noted, not in that particular order.

Taking a grisly movie and positioning it as a cautionary tale was definitely a risky gamble, but the filmmakers believe the violence was a necessary evil, saying not enough is learned from cable or network news alone. "The cable shows show the beginning and they show the end. They show nice pictures of Natalee Holloway as a cheerleader and then they show suspects being arrested," says Bernheim, "We show the middle part, the horror and torture in-between that victims really go through." To them, the excessive violence is how to leave an impression.

Director/writer David DeFalco is ready to defend his baby as well, telling TMZ, "People give us slack that that's just our excuse for making a sick movie, but I don't see how anyone can deny that it's gonna affect you ... [it] may actually teach you something about real evil."

Though horror movies are typically aimed towards a young male demographic, Bernheim and DeFalco hope the media attention will make a few more parents pick up "Chaos," which just landed on DVD this week.

16. i think it is a wonderful idea! shock treatment, it may save the life of someones daughter, someone needs to put the fear of god into these girls who hang out and leave with strangers, cause it seems the parents are not...

what kind of girl leaves a bar with 2 or 3 men she dont know????

17. You guys must have some pretty stupid daughters. Why would this movie be any different then any other three thousand slasher films? If you think girls my age are that dumb you should re-think, maybe? This is just a publicity stunt and you're falling for it. So again Hollywood decides what you teach your kids instead of you. How lame is that??

18. This movie is a take off of "Last House on the Left" which was made over 30 years ago, and none of the girls learned anything then so i don't think any of them will learn anything now , remember "it's only a movie"

19. Yes, children (I'm assuming almost every here is under 25), you really are that stupid. Young boys, young girls, it's the same thing: by the time you near your thirties, you will look back and cringe at all the horrendous things you did. I was just counting how many times I could easily have died, and ran out of fingers.

The difference is women are regarded as natural prey. Yet, somehow, it is also their fault. It's interesting that the video is being marketed as a cautionary tale for girls who make foolish, foolish choices. Why not a warning video for boys, examining what they do and what the f*** is wrong with them? At least that would blame the criminal, not the victim.

20. The film will not do any good, unless you have someone play Joran Van Der Sloot, and the two Kalpoe brothers!!!

21. This kind of movie is a neccessity nowadays.
People, who watch TV regularly (i don´t even have one) are so numb to their own risk in which they live theit everyday life, that this movie must be this shocking, to show at least some sort of "awaking" to risks.
It may not even be the drugs themselves, that are THAT risky, it´s the state of mind they bring you in.
(and i know what i am talking about when i talk about drugs-clean now for 2 years)

23. I think this movie will help save young females lives,
because it will make them to think that you can't just
trust anyone you see.

25. If you expect Hollywood to teach you're daughters good values, you're barking up the wrong tree. What are you teaching them that don’t know not to go home from a bar with strangers? Excuses not to be a parentis all I’m hearing from most of you. This “movie” was out last year, I watched it and laughed my ass off, it was so bad. It's like a really bad B or more like C slasher film. What the hell are your daughters going to learn from watching a bad movie?? Don't me stupid parents take responsibility for teaching your daughters right from wrong. They should learn this from you, not some ex-wrestler trying to make a buck.

28. Hey badisbad I got a question for ya. What kind of a sick bastard could watch a movie like CHAOS and "laugh their ass off"? You think its funny seeing real life scenes of young girls getting tortured and killed by the most evil sociopaths on the planet? And then you go on to call the movie a B or C slasher film. Do you really think a B or C slasher film could garner all the controversy CHAOS has received? Including major film critics like Roger Ebert saying "that it affected me strongly...the movie works". My name is David "the Demon" DeFalco, I wrote and directed CHAOS and yeah "I wanted to make a buck". But, guess what? We created something that went far beyond our wildest intentions. We captured the essence of real EVIL on film with ground breaking realism. And that's what all the talk is about. But, I guess you think its all just a big joke and some ex-wrestler trying to stir up some controversy and make a buck. I'm sure you have never exposed yourself to the real darkside of life, 'cause if you did you would find nothing funny about it. Opening that "doorway" for me has permanently altered my life and not in a good way. So, the next time you want to laugh your ass off in the face of real evil, you better pray to God that its only on film...

29. I wish Chaos had saved Natalee Holloway then we would not have been stuck hearing about her on the news every day for months on end.

Chaos was so brutal but having that fat Stallone kid in it was a distraction. He couldn't act in Daylight and he still can't.

Posted at 1:50AM on Oct 4th 2006 by Trisha

30. It makes sense that if a young girl watched Chaos that it might prevent her from getting into trouble, because obviously if she's watching Chaos, she's in front of a tv and not going out to get in trouble. Seriously though, it is a good movie although I have to agree with what Trisha said, Stallone sucks, I can understand why his dad didn't use him in the next Rocky movie, He would have turned it into Rocky fights his son's weight problem. Sage Stallone should audition for the Biggest Loser or maybe he can hook up with Anna Nicole Smith and do trimspa ads, he could be the "before" picture
