Robert Downey Jr.: I am Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr.Robert Downey Jr. has been tapped to play the Marvel comic book character "Iron Man" in its film adaptation. Downey worked out and grew a goatee in the hopes of convincing the producers that he was the right man for the job.

The complex character of Tony Stark (aka Iron Man) is far more complex then meets the eye. In fact, the similarities to Downey's own life are uncanny, as the character is a man whose life is plagued by substance abuse and chaos.

Marvel Entertainment executive Kevin Fergie said "We cannot think of another actor better suited to bring one of Marvel's crown jewels to the big screen."

Filming will begin in February.

5. Robert is hands down one of top 5 best looking actor around (now while he's off the drugs). Too bad he's such a tortured soul, but hey that's what makes him perfect for this role.

8. Hell yeah! Comic heros! Drugs! Drug addicted actors! What more could you want?

Perhaps they will pass out some mind-altering tidbits for the audience as well... that might make it all the more worth my while.

11. Robert Downey Jr is a great actor. All of you who are so quick to judge should look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are a perfect person without flaws. I think not so give the guy a break!!

14. I am thrilled that Robert Downey Jr. is playing in this movie. I guess Tom Cruise is pissed since he wanted this role, but I guess due to the breakup between him and Paramount, he lost this. I'm happy because I wouldn't have seen it with Tom Cruise. I did see that Matt Dillion was in the running, and thought he would be great, but I can see Robert in the role. Like others have said, he is the perfect person with the same personality as Iron Man. I can't really think of anybody else who could do this role. I just told my sister and she is thrilled with it as her hubby will be. Now if we can only get Wonder Woman made with Sandra Bullock.

15. Robert Downey Jr. has had great success portraying characters that psychological scars - Tony Stark will be right up his alley. I just hope he can keep it together long enough to make the movie.
