Celebrity Justice
Warrant Served in Mel Gibson Case

TMZ has learned the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has gone after the deputy who arrested Mel Gibson with a vengeance. At the same time, it appears little has been done to determine if top brass gave Gibson special treatment and deceived the media.
James Mee, Mel Gibson
Sheriff's sources confirm to TMZ that the Department obtained a search warrant and raided the home of Deputy James Mee on September 13th. We're told deputies went inside and took Mee's computer, phone records and other documents. Sheriff's Department sources say the Department got the warrant because officials believed Deputy Mee leaked four pages of the original arrest report to TMZ. The Sheriff's Department claims it's a crime for a law enforcement officer to leak confidential documents.

The warrant is still sealed and the results of the search have not been made public.

TMZ contacted Mee's lawyer, Richard Shinee, who would not comment on the warrant.

Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Department claims it is still investigating charges that Department officials gave Gibson special treatment and lied to the media the day of the arrest.

The day Gibson was busted, Sheriff's officials told TMZ and other media that the arrest occurred "without incident." Nothing could be further from the truth. Gibson acknowledged his out-of-control behavior on today's "Good Morning America."

Also on the day of the arrest, Sheriff's officials told TMZ that the story it was about to publish documenting Gibson's anti-Semitic remarks and vulgar conduct was "absolutely false." Only after TMZ obtained portions of the arrest report did the Department change its story, ultimately telling TMZ the entire report would be submitted to the D.A.

As of today, no one from the Sheriff's Department has contacted TMZ to ask questions about the website's interactions with top Sheriff's brass on the day in question. By contrast, a Sheriff's official did contact TMZ's Managing Editor Harvey Levin to ask about the leak. Levin refused to give the deputy any information.

Sheriff's spokesperson Steve Whitmore told TMZ that everything is being done to make sure that the L.A. County Sheriff's Department is doing "everything which is right."

Michael Gennaco, Chief Attorney for the Office of Independent Review, the oversight panel for the Department, tells TMZ the Sheriff's Department cannot do a "complete and robust" investigation into the way the Department handled the case until the criminal investigation into the leak is resolved.

16. Are you guys really responding to the attention-grabbing nonsense of a child? Kate Hanson clearly said what she said because she wanted attention. Why else would she have said the same thing twice? Luckily, there are people more than willing to give her the attention she so clearly desires, thereby perpetuating the idea that hatred and stupidity garner attention. At the same time, you both commented on how she clearly needed an education. True, yet neither of you posted comments devoid of spelling and/or punctuation mistakes either. While I may not care whether or not a posting is made perfectly, I do care about how many pots and kettles find themselves in the same club.

17. Anything for a BUCK. For sure this guy leaked the story. How else would TMZ have gotten ahold of those documents. Dahhhhh. What I want to know is what happened to the privlege that is customarily given to sourses to keep them ANONOMOUS.

I guess in this case it's pretty obvious where that informtion came from but the report passed through a lot of hands so fingering the right culprit might take some investigating. Hense the warrent to search the officer's computer

. As far as the preferential treatment.. Mel got it alright. If that was you or I driving intoxicated doing 80 miles an hour , or what ever it was , we would have been cited for a DUI and booked for RECKLESS driving. We most likely would have been cited for threatening an officer along with inappropriate and belligerent behavior too. Resisting arrest comes to mind also. If he wasn't Mel GIbson, he would be sitting in that jail right now. ( or else out on a very large bond ) We're not idiots. I've seen people get worse sentances for stealing a bottle of vitamens. What a joke.

18. Post #16 Maven: Well said. I can't believe there are still people around that judge others by the color of their skin or what religion they are. I was raised color blind and no reference was made to someone's religious choice. Unfortunately we are a product of how we were brought up. Thank God I learned that lesson early in life because the best friendships and relationships I have had have been with people from all walks of life. When you limit yourself to your predigious views you miss out on so many positive and poterntial life changing events that could open your world to so many possibilites . By shutting the door and not getting to know someone for their CONTENT , ( forget the color or religion ) you are only limiting yourself. I

19. I THOUGHT GIBSON WAS COOL FOR DEVIATING FROM THE NORM AND FOR SAYING WHAT WAS ON HIS MIND WHEN HE GOT ARRESTED BUT NOW I SEE HE'S A PIECE OF CRAP THAT IS APOLOGIZING WITH HIS TAIL BETWEEN HIS TAILS, PATHETIC. STAND UP FOR YOUR BELIEFS BIATCH. WHO CARES ABOUT THE COPS, WASTE MORE TAX PAYERS MONEY INVESTIGATING WHO LEAKED WHAT AND ON WHO.

21. While I admit that what Mel Gibson said is wrong and shameful for him, how is what he's done is worse than Kate Moss's drug addition, Winona Ryder stealing clothes, Charlie Sheen paying prostitues, Star Jone's soliciting freebies, Rosie O'Donnel's pushy gay tactics, Hugh Grant picking up a prostitue and having sex in his car, PeeWee Herman masturbating in a movie theater and on and on.

True you would think that a man with such strong religious beliefs would know to behave better, he is no less human, than anyone of of us. Let's look at ourselves, and how we look on others that are different. How many of us laugh at Jew jokes, black jokes, mexican jokes? Come on get real, we are all guilty only not so public.

23. Way to screw up someone else's life because of your fu-k up! What a piece of work Mel! You are a low down racial piece of sh-t! Oh wait...maybe Mel will step up and give the guy a few of his millions he made from his "Christ" movie for his family to get by since his fu-ck up with probably cost him his job.

24. Mel Gibson has received the same "Pass" as O.J. Simpson did. It seems that the cops have been instructed not to screw with the Hollywood money sources that pump billions into the L. A. economy. (I am a former L.A. resident.)

25. I am a Christian and study the Bible often. There
are many cases of Christians doing wrong in the
Word; murder, incest, denial of our Lord, adultery,
and breaking the Ten Commandments. Jesus
came to us to teach us to love our neighbors as
ourselves.
Christians aren't perfect, just forgiven. We all
sin daily as we were born in sin. When we judge
others, the Bible says that same judgment will
returns to us.

26. Mel Gibson is racist and homophobic. We don't need to be making celebrities out of people like this. Paris Hilton is a better role model than this hater.

27. I have to say that this idiot cop leaked the info to TMZ for profit....I could not understand any other reason for him doing it. I agree that what Mel Gibson did was absolutely stupid and should be punished for it. The deputy that arrested him and leaked the info to TMZ should be punished as well. Now the question remains, how much did TMZ give this deputy for the reports that he should never have leaked?

30. Why do we hold Mel Gibson to a higher standard than our President? Mel can't live down anti-semetic remarks but when our President, lies to us on an hourly basis, systematically takes away our constitutional rights and starts an unnecessary war, we sit back and take that. Let's direct our outrage away from Mel and take our country back
