Celebrity Justice
Warrant Served in Mel Gibson Case

TMZ has learned the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has gone after the deputy who arrested Mel Gibson with a vengeance. At the same time, it appears little has been done to determine if top brass gave Gibson special treatment and deceived the media.
James Mee, Mel Gibson
Sheriff's sources confirm to TMZ that the Department obtained a search warrant and raided the home of Deputy James Mee on September 13th. We're told deputies went inside and took Mee's computer, phone records and other documents. Sheriff's Department sources say the Department got the warrant because officials believed Deputy Mee leaked four pages of the original arrest report to TMZ. The Sheriff's Department claims it's a crime for a law enforcement officer to leak confidential documents.

The warrant is still sealed and the results of the search have not been made public.

TMZ contacted Mee's lawyer, Richard Shinee, who would not comment on the warrant.

Meanwhile, the Sheriff's Department claims it is still investigating charges that Department officials gave Gibson special treatment and lied to the media the day of the arrest.

The day Gibson was busted, Sheriff's officials told TMZ and other media that the arrest occurred "without incident." Nothing could be further from the truth. Gibson acknowledged his out-of-control behavior on today's "Good Morning America."

Also on the day of the arrest, Sheriff's officials told TMZ that the story it was about to publish documenting Gibson's anti-Semitic remarks and vulgar conduct was "absolutely false." Only after TMZ obtained portions of the arrest report did the Department change its story, ultimately telling TMZ the entire report would be submitted to the D.A.

As of today, no one from the Sheriff's Department has contacted TMZ to ask questions about the website's interactions with top Sheriff's brass on the day in question. By contrast, a Sheriff's official did contact TMZ's Managing Editor Harvey Levin to ask about the leak. Levin refused to give the deputy any information.

Sheriff's spokesperson Steve Whitmore told TMZ that everything is being done to make sure that the L.A. County Sheriff's Department is doing "everything which is right."

Michael Gennaco, Chief Attorney for the Office of Independent Review, the oversight panel for the Department, tells TMZ the Sheriff's Department cannot do a "complete and robust" investigation into the way the Department handled the case until the criminal investigation into the leak is resolved.

46. I am impressed at the idiocy I see posted here and the lack of education. So this story is about a man who is powerful, gets ARRESTED for DUI, makes awful statements, the police officer dutifully records all and videotapes it at the Police Station, the powerful man tries to ESCAPE, and the PD suppresses the original report because this powerful man has helped them out in the past and is a celebrity! Where is the investigation into this coverup? Nowhere!!! Instead there is an investigation of the Police Officer to see if he was the one who leaked the original truthful report!!! Do you honestly believe that if you were the culprit (just an ordinary person) you would get this kind of assistance from the PD? If you do, you are on some powerful meds and need lots of help. Get back to the subject here - this is about James Mee who is being violated. Check out http://people.aol.com/people/article/0,26334,1220948,00.html to see what he said about Mel Gibson when he was interviewed - this is a fair man who is being bullied by a corrupt PD.

48. If Officer Mee leaked the story then he deserves to be punished. Why is everyone trying to blame this part of the story on Mel ? If he was given special treatment by the police there should be an investgation and those involved should also be punished, but don't put this off on Mel. Is tmz trying to take the focus off of any wrong doing on their part ?. Mel is paying for what he did, let those that also did wrong accept responsibility and pay as well.

50. Personally, I believe that what Mel did was wrong, but he did pubically apologize, so let it go. I am offended about the Christian comments though. I am a Christian, and I don't consider myself an idiot either. I do not believe that someone else is Christian just because they say they are, they need to prove it. Anyone can say that they are anything they want, but it is how they act that proves who they really are. And besides, Mel is Catholic, and they are not considered Christians. Humans are humans whatever religion we follow, and we all fall short and make mistakes-no one is perfect.

51. MEL GIBSON IS NOT A BAD PERSON. GOOD PEOPLE DO AND SAY BAD THINGS SOMETIMES, THAT DOESN'T MAKE THEM A BAD PERSON. I FORGIVE HIM. YOU SHOULD ALSO. REMEMBER WHEN YOU DO A BAD THING YOU WILL WANT TO BE FORGIVEN,

52. Wow, not only can TMZ not get over Mel Gibson, they also have to fabricate lies.
The Sheriff's Det did not give Mr. Gibson a break. It is not unusual for most people to receive community service and probation w/o jail tme for a first offense DUI. Let him get on with his life. Too bad you people cant do the same.

54. This whole think is getting very old. He drank, he said some things, it's over. I'm sick of all the people who stand at attention just because someone says something about a Jew. Who the hell do they think they are. They are NOT THE CHOSEN PEOPLE. What do you want him to do, kiss every Jewish ass he meets as a penance for the rest of his life? In fact the way the world sees it, they are nothing but trouble, or haven't you noticed!!!

60. I think John misinterpreted what I meant in forgiveness, or I may not have clarified it enough. It's not that people forgive anyone, which is good if they do. We all
have made grave mistakes in our lives. Unforgiveness is an acid that eats into
the very soul of mankind; when we harbour unforgiveness, we hurt no one but
ourselves. I learned that lesson the hard way.
But what I was referring to is, as a Christian, when we repent to God in sincerity,
GOD forgives us. Every word in the Bible is God-breathed and has lasted thru many centuries. It is just as alive today as the day it was written.
People are human beings, born in sin. They never forget a mistake made from
someone, unless they ask God to help them forgive. Then God will replace that torment with love for one another. I believe Mel knows he sinned, and he asked
God's forgiveness, as well as the whole world. God's has wiped his slate clean. That leaves the ones who are not Christians; and I ask God to forgive them, as
they know not what they do. Unless we have the Holy Spirit leading and guiding us, we are left wide open to all kinds of falsehoods, never knowing what is true or not true. The Holy Spirit gives discernment and wisdom to anyone who asks.
John is right on one thing: Many Christians have professed to be just that, but
live the life of sin. When the day comes to meet their Maker, I fear they will have
a lot to answer for. That will be between them and Almighty God alone.
