Star Catcher
How Celebs Drop That Baby Weight -- If They Can

The celebrity baby boom of 2006 has officially come and gone, and some of its products -- Suri, Shiloh, Sutton Pierce -- are (we presume) bouncily moon-faced, bright-eyed, happy, and fat. But if Angelina, Katie, and Britney thought that carrying the child and then giving birth was tough, getting back into tip-top Tinseltown shape might even be tougher (just ask Brit). We enlisted the help of professional celeb offspring observer Danielle Friedland of Celebrity Baby Blog to run down how star mommies might regain their famous forms.

Work Those Abs, Girl

Friedland points out that the great thing about being a celebrity mom is that once you have your kid, you can hire a small army of nannies and handler to actually take care of the child (because who has time for that?) so you can go about getting into shape with yet another small army of trainers. As TMZ told you recently, Tom Cruise has made it his Mission: Important to get Katie Holmes into great shape for their impending wedding, and he sees to it that her strict workout schedule isn't interrupted by, say, diaper-changing. Frankly, it appears to be working: Katie looked svelte and slender on a recent trip to Paris, not an easy task when you're strolling around with the skeletal Victoria Beckham.

No More Eating For Two

Often the biggest culprit in celeb moms packing on pounds is that common misperception that pregnant women need to "eat for two." In fact, as Friedland tells us, a woman with child really only needs 300 extra calories per day. So after giving birth, stars have flocked to customized diets to help them eat what they need without undue restriction and effort. Emmy-winning songtress Michelle Branch, for instance, enlisted the help of Fresh Dining, an LA-based diet delivery outfit that provides gourmet-caliber (but not gourmet-calorie-count ) meals and snacks daily to stars' doorsteps. Branch says it helped her shed her baby weight in mere weeks, and TV star McKenzie Westmore used Fresh Dining to drop the poundage as well, while Nicollette Sheridan, Tori Spelling and "Grey's Anatomy's" Kate Walsh have also ordered up chef Michael Bowen's healthy-tasty creations.

The Breast May Be Best
You may be surprised to know that a fine way, says Friedland, for celeb moms to help lose weight is actually by nursing. Gwyneth Paltrow, an advocate of nursing, apparently dropped pounds while doling out the milk to her babies Apple and Moses, and Jennifer Garner has been successful in burning off the baby-producing fat by breast-feeding her daughter Violet. "When you're nursing, you burn off 500 calories," says Friedland, who has a one-year-old of her own, and says she's lost 20 pounds off her pre-pregnancy weight as she feeds her newborn.

We're Still Waiting
Then, frankly, there are the cases where celeb moms just can't seem to lose the weight. Pierce Brosnan's wife Keely Shaye Smith went through a very public ordeal in trying to drop her pregnancy pounds, while Britney Spears -- who got pregnant twice in the space of 11 months -- is working feverishly to try to get back in shape, though her seeming addiction to Taco Bell (and other fast foods) has certainly made things much more difficult for the pop starlet. And, if all else fails, the celebrity mother can just have it all that extra poundage neatly tucked away by the magic of plastic surgery, as Britney is rumored to have done.

32. What kills me is that multiple couples like the ones listed above are talking about getting in shape is more important than the kids they've birthed. I don't give one rat's @$$ if it's the man or the woman, but doesn't one think it's more important to TAKE CARE OF THE KID YOU BROUGHT INTO THIS WORLD more than "training". They spoke of small armies of trainers and nannies because "who has time for diaper-changing"...are you F'ing SERIOUS?! I've changed my mind on a lot of these so-called actors because that's just wrong. Nobody in the real world (and Hollywood is NOT real-world) has the kind of money to A: stay at home (which is some veritable mansion) and do nothing but work-out while multiple others take care of the kids they brought into the world. Apparently, it's perfectly fine to f*ck like rabbits, but God forbid they actually take responsibility to maintain and bring them up accordingly. It absolutely disgusts me.

35. hi. im 15 and i write in a small notebook from time to time when things come across my path that i might want to write about. this is one of them and i think it is somewhat relevant t o this article.
have you ever gone outside when it was raining and you slightly bend your arms with your palms facing up and wiggle your fingers just a bit to make sure youre alive. and the rain just falls on them and you look at them closely because its wet. and its strange but wonderful that it is. and you begin to wonder why its wet because youre just so fascinated by it. and you tilt your head back so that your face can taste the rain. because its wet and its wonderful and youre happy. because happiness is really all its about. but then you realize that youre wet all over and cold and sticky so you go inside. and then its dry and a perfect temperature and theres a fireplace crackling in the living room. but its dry. and not wet. and its boring and not wonderful because its dry and you dont have to wonder about it because theres nothing to wonder about. and so youre sad and not happy. and you wanna go back outside but you dont because people say you shouldn't. you go to sleep and then wake up. and youre sad. because all you have to look forward to is another, warm, dry day.
women of the world! wake up and smell the cuban coffee! the media is trying to suppress all of you into believing that you are fat! if its not obvious, i dont know what is. being concerned with hosh posh such as this, just makes you older feeling. the point of life is not to live as long as you can, but to experience as much as you can in the time you have. and not to go jump off planes and whatnot, but to look at a rose and know that you cant draw it because you cant capture its beauty completely. you really arent supposed to think about what you eat to begin with. fast food is meant to be repulsing. your body isnt supposed to like it. let nature flow with you. dont fight it.
yes. this may sound a bit hippieish but ive thought about life a lot and im studying rhetoric in school at the moment and i think everyone just needs to step away from society and the media for a few days and not pay attention to the faults of the world and our government, but to focus on the important things in life, in this case, bringing another mind into this world that can either be manipulated into doing what everyone else does or be set free into the thoughts and studies or himself (or herself) and those greater than him (or her). thank you and good night.

36. Do you guys have any idea what is REALLY happening in these peoples' personal lives? LIke "Brit needs to drop kevin" and " Katie needs to drop Tom". Most of this stuff is for sh*ts and giggles. There are PLENTY more important things to worry about. Just because a mom isnt scary looking thin like everyone in hollywood nowadays, doenst mean they are overweight. Britney spears isnt "fat", shes normal. And dont even say you guys dont eat cheetos or taco bell. Get real. And i bet none of you guys are skinnier than then people you are bashing.

37. these celebs jobs after having their babies is to work out, and eat healthy until they loose all the baby fat...ofcourse they get back into their size after 2 months ! its all about image when your in the public eye. its funny how they never show the nannys who take care of the babys while celeb moms are working out 24/7 !

38. The only thing that I got out of this article, other than the fact that it is totally ridiculous to care whether celebrities still have baby weight or not, is that it promotes breastfeeding. If you exclusively breastfeed your baby you have a higher chance of losing the baby weight - but that's also if you take care of yourself and eat right in the process. And you know that these celebrity moms who are breastfeeding their babies don't give all the responsibility to the nannies - you know that they actually spend quality, bonding time with their baby. And that is a really good thing.

39. As for the remark "Tom isn't a short man" ..what do you consider short? He is 5'8 (if that), one of the shortest men in Hollywood. And neither has a large build. Sure, Katie is tall, but her frame isn't large. Tom is short and has a small to average frame. Just had to put in my 2 cents when I saw that remark. Oh, and Suri resembles both, but Katie more.

40. I don't know about other moms, but after having my kids, I didn't want to pawn their care off on someone else. Caring for them is the joy of being a mom, and even if I weigh more than I really want to, I would rather spend the time with my little ones than not be there to watch them grow up. I will always have the time to loose the pounds when they get older.
