Tom and Katie

Wedding Conflict

10/15/2006 12:00 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Wedding ConflictTom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding may be just around the corner, with her dress all ready to go, but the persistent buzz is that Katie's parents are still outraged that the nuptials -- whenever and wherever they happen -- will be conducted by the Church of Scientology, rather than in the Catholic tradition. And there have even been suggestions that the family Holmes is threatening a last-minute boycott of the wedding to try to convince Katie to have a proper Catholic ceremony, even if she does one Scientology-style, too.

Katie was born a Roman Catholic and went to parochial schools growing up in Toledo, Ohio, and so it would only be fitting for her to be married with the usual Catholic rites -- not in a Scientology ceremony, in which the bride is sometimes called a "girl" marrying a "man" and in which one of the solemn "pacts" of marriage is that the couple agree not to go to bed angry. The Holmes family has not commented publicly on the situation, though the TomKat mothers were spotted recently having lunch with their children. Cruise's rep maintains that the couple will be married sometime in the fall.

Britney Shapes Up Furiously For Big Return

Britney Spears has targeted her husband Kevin's album release party at the end of this month to make her triumphant return as the svelte, sexy young starlet we once knew -- and sources close to the family tell TMZ that she's enlisted a small army of nannies, trainers, and nutritionists to put her through her paces to make sure she's looking her best.

According to our sources, Brit has hired a nanny for each of her sons, and is constantly in the gym "for hours at a time," working out feverishly to shed all the extra poundage she put on while having two babies in 13 months -- and indulging her penchant for Taco Bell gleefully and often along the way. "She really wants to make a huge splash at Kevin's release party," says our source, "and she totally wants to outshine Kevin and announce to the world that she's back."

Anna Nicole's Mom Joins The Fray

The Anna Nicole Smith saga is just getting uglier. The latest twist is that Smith's mother, Virgie Arthur, has told Page Six that she thinks her grandson Daniel -- who tragically died in the hospital room where his mom had just given birth in the Bahamas -- was murdered. Toxicology tests have shown that Daniel died of an overdose of methadone and the antidepressants Zoloft and Lexapro. "Somebody had to give it to him. He had to get it from somewhere," Arthur reportedly said. "I just know Danny didn't kill hisself. He did not overdose hisself . . . Danny wouldn't take drugs to begin with. I don't believe that for a minute. You could not convince me of that." Smith has not yet held a funeral for Daniel, whose body is still lying in a Bahamas funeral home.

Celebrity Goodwill Flu Catches Kidman

Maybe all that do-gooding by the likes of Bono and Angelina Jolie is contagious. Nicole Kidman is the latest celeb to get in on the act-she arrived in Kosovo yesterday as a United Nations goodwill ambassador. The region was devastated by war in 1998-1999 and Kidman plans on visiting the southwestern town of Djakovica, one of the most hardest-hit areas of the conflict. This is Kidman's first tour of duty since being named goodwill ambassador of the U.N. Development Fund for Women in January.

Party Favors: Leo Gets Under Diamond Giant's Skin ... NBC Losing Revenue Steam

Diamond merchant DeBeers is gearing up for a fight-over the upcoming Leonardo DiCaprio movie "Blood Diamond," out Dec. 15. In the movie, the African diamond industry is portrayed as a conflict-ridden one, but DeBeers claims that the movie distorts the truth, according to the New York Post ... NBC should start watching its wallet. The network's operating profit fell 10 percent in the third quarter, largely because of expensive shows like "Kidnapped" and "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" that haven't lived up to expectations.

I'm glad to see that Britney is taking her life in her hands. If she loses all her extra baby weight and becomes more confident about herself, she might have enough guts to finally divorce that douchebag KFed. She deserves better, and so do Sean Preston and Sutton Pierce.

All that need be said by The Maven about the Smith slut is that she is a pile of dirt that should be plowed under.

As for the Cruise-Holmes wedding, all that need be said is that it's apparently circling the bowl even before it gets underway.

But The Maven has a question:

Since Scientology is a cult, not a religion, then any marriage would be meaningless before the law--unless the bridal pair go through with the obligatory civil ceremony?

Or has that obnoxious little munchkin become so big--in his own warped mind--as to assume he can rewrite the law of the land for his own purposes?

I'm glad Britney has decided to get back into shape. I hope her new cd does well. I just think that her appeal is gone forever. Her last few cd's didn't sell as well as her 1st few did. I really think that she can't make the huge come-back she's hoping for. Good Luck Britney!

In a Nutshell

The Church of Scientology is a vicious and dangerous cult that masquerades as a religion. Its purpose is to make money. It practices a variety of mind-control techniques on people lured into its midst to gain control over their money and their lives. Its aim is to take from them every penny that they have and can ever borrow and to also enslave them to further its wicked ends.
It was started in the 1950s by a science fiction writer named L. Ron Hubbard in fulfilment to his declared aim to start a religion to make money. It is an offshoot to a method of psychotherapy he concocted from various sources which he named "Dianetics". Dianetics is a form of regression therapy. It was then further expanded to appear more like a religion in order to enjoy tax benefits. He called it "Scientology".

Scientology is a confused concoction of crackpot, dangerously applied psychotherapy, oversimplified, idiotic and inapplicable rules and ideas and science-fiction drivel that is presented to its members (at the "advanced" levels) as profound spiritual truth.

The Harm it Does to a Person
The results of applying their crackpot psychotherapy (called "auditing") is to weaken the mind. The mind goes from a rational state to an irrational one as the delusional contents of the subconscious mind are brought to the surface and are assumed to be valid. It also makes a person more susceptible to suggestion since it submerges the critical thinking faculties of the mind into a partial subconscious state. It results in a permanent light hypnotic trance and so from thenceforth that person can be more easily controlled. The person will, to a much greater extent, believe and do whatever they are told. And of course this is used to the full in persuading them to hand over further money and dedicating themselves further to the cult.
The results of applying their oversimplified and inapplicable rules in life is to lose the ability to think rationally and logically. A person loses the ability to think for themselves and so they lose the ability to challenge incorrect ideas. This makes them easier to control. It also isolates and alienates the person from society so that they withdraw from normal society and into their "Scientology" society. This further increases their susceptibility to the influence of their group. They end up being afraid of society, believing all society to be controlled by a group of drug companies, psychiatrists and financiers all of whom report to more remote masters. In other words they are in a state of mass paranoia. They therefore avoid reading newspapers and the like since they fear it will disturb their safe Scientology world. It is a downward spiral into madness.

The science fiction content of Scientology is revealed to them after they have reached the state they call "Clear", meaning freed from the aberrations of the mind. However, perhaps "brainwashed" would be a more applicable word to describe the mental state of someone who has survived the near entire delusional contents of their subconscious mind brought to the surface and presented to them as "truth". On the "advanced" levels (called OT levels) above the state of "Clear" they encounter the story of Xenu. Xenu was supposed to have gathered up all the overpopulation in this sector of the galaxy, brought them to Earth and then exterminated them using hydrogen bombs. The souls of these murdered people are then supposed to infest the body of everyone. They are called "body thetans". On the advanced levels of Scientology a person "audits out" these body thetans telepathically by getting them to re-experience their being exterminated by hydrogen bombs. So people on these levels assume all their bad thoughts and faulty memories are due to these body thetans infesting every part of their body and influencing them mentally. Many Scientologists go raving mad at this point if they have not done so already.

To: The Maven-I enjoy reading your posts. You seem to be one of the few people who actually have a brain on this site! I look forward to reading more from you!

Katie should be very sure before marrying this controlling pipsqueak that she, indeed, wants to give up EVERYTHING that is Katie and assume EVERYTHING that is Tommy. A marriage is TWO people united, not one emperor. Think Katie, think!

To #5, The Maven:

Excellent post. Another thing that I thought was interesting about Scientology is this: the information about "Xenu" and the volcanoes, hydrogen bombs, etc., was not normally revealed to Scientology members until they reached the level of OT-III after they had paid God knows how many thousands of dollars. By the time they got to OT-III, they were either so brainwashed that they accepted this ludicrous information as fact, or they were so embarrassed at how badly they had been misled, they said nothing.

Fortunately, disgruntled former Scientologists have made the implausible story about Xenu available to the public so that we can all see how foolish it is. Clearly just the ravings of a deluded science fiction writer. So apparently the "Church" of Scientology's response to this embarrassing turn of events is to downplay the whole Xenu/science fiction aspect of their organization and rewrite their rules as needed to continue to function and to lure people in.

This is a wonderful function of the internet. If a person wants to research Scientology, there are many wonderful websites. I read one website where psychologists had taken the Scientology "personality test" and proved it to be completely without merit. It would be funny if it weren't so tragic.

I want to add another comment.

Even though I can't stand Tom Cruise, he is inadvertently doing the world a huge favor. I have never been curious about Scientology before. Due to Tom's alarming behavior over the past year, I began to wonder what could make somebody act so crazy. So I decided to read about Scientology. It truly IS a vicious and dangerous cult, as The Maven points out above.

Tom Cruise, in his misguided, insane attempts to recruit for Scientology, is actually doing us all a favor by warning us away from it. I do feel sorry for poor Katie and the baby, if there is actually a baby.

I hope Katie knows what she is doing. Personally, I think is she taken in by being "Tom Cruise's girlfriend/ soon to be wife." Folks might have seen her on Dawson's Creek but before Tom her picture wasn't on the cover of magazines. Papparazzi weren't following her every move, she wasn't going on Rodeo Drive shopping sprees.
I hope she understands that there is a price to everything. Because if things don't work out, guess who is gonna get custody of Suri?

I want to see Britney dump K-fed and get back in the game. He is doing nothing more than using her as a cash cow to get his lousy career started. She could do a lot better - and I hope she does!

We, are not amused.

Wow, it's like going to weirdo school!
If the parents are upset about their daughter getting married OUTSIDE of the church, imagine the fun times ahead when she get divorced!

I LOVE BRITNEY, and she WILL loose the weight and be back....And to who ever said "WELL HER LAST 3 ALBUMS DIDNT SELL LIKE THE FIRST" No Shhhh.....WHO BUYS CD's ANYMORE! 1999 was a different time, no illegal downloading on SUCH A HUGE SCALE....I mean, Britney, BSB, Nsync all used to sell 10 million easy in a year....But now selling just 2-3 million is just as good! Because EVERYONE either downloads the SINGLES or ENTIRE CD, or a friend or relative might get the CD burned and not buy it......But Britney does have a DIE HARD fan base and she will always do ok.......And for any FAN who actually read this far or at all...LOL Britney should DEF TRY TO go a more HIP/POP route this time around...aka Beyonce, Justin, Fergie...Then she will be HUGE again!

Even though I hate to really think this way, some of the Scientology/Tom Cruise comments here do have some merit. Have y'all seen Eyes Wide Shut? Minority Report? Good movies but what effect does all that mind stuff have on the actor playing the part? Maybe the profession Tom has chosen has contributed to his delusions with respect to Scientology?
