Why Aren't You Watching "Studio 60"?

Dear TMZ readers,

We don't like to preach to you about what you should and shouldn't watch. Love "Dancing With the Stars"? Great. Hate "Grey's Anatomy"? We can forgive that. But you're not watching "Studio 60" and this has to stop. Starting tonight.

You don't need us to tell you how great it is -- every other TV critic has already done that. So, we're not sure what we can say to make you watch it. Um, you liked "The West Wing," right? Same writer. And we know you loved "Friends" -- this has Chandler!

In tonight's episode (10PM ET/PT on NBC), Harriet talks about God with a Vanity Fair reporter while Sting warms up in the background. Yes, that's right -- they've got Sting, too!

So, in closing, please watch "Studio 60." A world where "CSI: Miami" does double the viewership than "Studio 60" is not a world worth living in.

Thanks,

TMZ.com

31. Apparently there are no more good writers and no more good directors and definitely no more good actors. Studio 60 is so damned boring that if boring was against the law, they would all be serving life sentences! Where are the people who came up with Frazier, Becker, Cheers, Taxi, All in the Family, Mash, Dynansty, Dallas, Soap, etc. These new shows are so stupid and vapid and lack luster. Its the same with music these days, there is nothing enjoyable or lasting. Where are all the great song writers? I guess they are with all the great screen writers and TV writers and clean and funny commedians, DEAD

32. I have tried to like this show - have watched every episode - but it just does not grab me. I don't think Amanda Peet is at all believable in her roll.

33. i agree with tracey, this show is too smart for the american people. americans can not handle intelligent conversation. we cant follow it. anything that challenges us to think, we ridicule and persecute. we would much rather have everything spoon-fed to us and laugh at fart jokes.

34. Best new show on TV - sad but not suprising people are not intelligent enough to enjoy it. So sorry not every show can spoonfeed the least common denominator. I dont live in Hollywood and am not even a Sorkin-fan, but cmon now. Great TV is great TV. Amazing characters and writing, makes you think, builds plot and stories slowly, makes you laugh. America, you are missing out. And alas it might be all of our loss.

35. Too Anti-Christian. Had high hopes, watched the first one, but will not watch a show based on bashing "Crazy Christians". Of all the people/situations to bash, why Christians? Woud Sorkin ever bash Jewish, Muslim, Scientology, or Socialists? Why is it OK to bash Christians? Makes no sense! Diappointing and sad that's the best they could come up with, and that Perry and Peet signed up for it. Desperate?

36. I wanted to like this show for the reasons you mentioned, Chandler, Amanda Peet, West Wing writers. However, after three episode I just had to give up. First of all the sketches aren't very funny and are overly political. Also, it seems like the whole point of the show is just to bash Christians. It just gets old after a while. I really tried to like the show, but its just not that great. There are definitely better things to watch.

37. I love the show! i never watched West Wing, thought Friends was OK, but wanted to check this out because of the buzz! It has very intelligent writing and a good cast. I wish it were on earlier, but I don't miss an episode.

38. For me, it's nto because of Monday Night Football or any reality show. I, in fact, have nothing to watch on Mondays.

I gave the show a go. For two episodes. I tried to watch the third.

IT IS SO BAD. NOTHING IS DRAMATIC OR FUNNY. There is no tension on the the show. Every act break is forced. It is totally unrealistic -- which is fine, it's TV -- but seems to want us to believe it is realistic.

It is a really stupid premise with tons of wasted talent on screen. Every line delivered feels like it was pulled with pincers out of the fine actor's arses.

39. My husband and I love this show. I personally wanted to see the show because I love Matthew Perry as an actor/comedian. He has a comedic wit that a lot of people don't have anymore. I absolutely loved Friends, my all-time favorite show, and my husband now loves it too. Studio 60 shows Matthew Perry has a very witty sense of humor that doesn't have to revolve around sex, as I have notice a lot of other shows do. I do agree that there are times that it is too preachy and political however that is the world we live in. Not everything in this world is all rosy. As some of you said, Amanda Peet is your biggest problem with the show but i have to disagree. She isn't my favorite in the show but i would have to say i dislike the character of Harriet, played by Sarah Paulson. she is the whole reason for the show being preachy.

40. Studio 60 is brilliant. Great casting, super sharp writing and I agree with the poster who said America can't handle smart TV. They can't handle anything smart. They don't even read, why would they watch good TV?

41. Studio 60 is the best new show on. All of you that are complaining that it isn't funny enough must have missed the part where they advertised it as a 1 hour DRAMA. It isn't supposed to be a Comedy. It is a Drama with funny bits.

The acting it brilliant. The writing is brilliant. The direction is brilliant. It is what TV should be. People are so dimmed down by countles crime dramas, medical dramas, reality TV and prime time game shows that they have forgotten that there can be other types of programming out there.

It would be a shame if this show doesn't make it. It is the types of shows that the rant in the pilot was talking about that make it impossible for an intelligent and well written drama to find an audience.

42. F. it! It is a descent show, but so what? Alot of good shows have suffered the same fate. The only reason TMZ cares so damn much is because it's basically what they see every day therefore it must be THE BEST. Go away. I enjoy your site, but there is a a whole big world out here where L.A. isn't the center of the universe, the be all end all of everything that matters. If the network will give it time it should find its own audience. Don't blame all of America for not watching, blame NBC for already giving up on yet another project just because , right off the bat, it's not crushing the competition.

43. All the moving camera swerving and dodging added to supposedly witty dialogue and a narcissistic cast of dorks all add up to what critics love and Joe Six-Pack & everyone else [except said narcissists & self-absorbed critics] think is pure crap.

I like 30 Rock. Studio 60 will be on the junk-heap of the pile of NBC shows that network is going to have to junk.

Hollyweird types love all that edgy crap, but a mass audience likes football and less verbal pyrotechnics on Monday nights. Besides, Sorkin burnt out on coke on West Wing and will probably do so again toot sweet.

44. Although it has a lot < a LOT> of the people from "West Wing" it is still a bright sparkly show. I think the show suffers mostly because people think it is just a rewrite of WW set in a new location...and on many levels it is, but all the parts of WW that really worked!

When the show first came on I thought "this show is too good, they will think of a reason to cancel it"....lets face it, they set up the show to fail. They put it in the slot normally held by "Medium" which has already got syndication. They were either hoping it would fail or they mean to move it to the old WW time-slot.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

45. west wing comparisons?!??! Come one people! This is the guy that tried to destroy Billy Madison, 'mano - e - mano, whatever that means'! He's freakin' hilarious!! Try it again, its great writing, fantastick chemistry with most of the cast and a wide variety. Seriously, it's better than any stupid redneck reality show where busty dumbasses try to eat the most disgusting thing they can think of. IT'S ENTERTAINMENT!

:)
