Celebs Who Claim They're Green but Guzzle Gas

10/18/2006 12:45 PM PDT BY TMZ STAFF

Hybrid cars are all the rage in Hollywood. Celebrities drive them like they're a badge of honor. You save a few gallons of gas, you save the planet. Right? Well, not when you hop on a private jet and burn enough fuel to propel NASCAR through 2050.

Of course, the stars need to go here and there. The location shoots, the fabulous vacations, etc. But that's why God created United Airlines. G-IV's, on the other hand, were created in the image of precious celebs.

Julia Roberts

On the ground: Roberts drives a Prius, which gets (at best) 60 miles to the gallon, shaving 30 miles off a normal car's mpg.
In the air: Chicago/LA, 1,749 miles in a private jet, the route she took with Rupert Everett while shooting "My Best Friend's Wedding."
Gas guzzled: 2,100 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius Penance: Julia would have to drive 30,000 miles, or roughly once around the earth and then some to even out her consumption in the air.
So Julia says: No word yet from Julia's rep.

Jennifer Lopez

On the ground:
J-Lo tools around in her 60 miles-per-gallon Prius.
In the air: LA /New York, 2,475 miles in a private jet. Lopez was actually sued by a private jet company for allegedly skipping out on the bill, though she says it's all a misunderstanding and she was not supposed to be billed.
Gas guzzled: 2,750 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius penance:
She'd have to drive 45,000 miles, and that's a lot longer for Jenny than just going down the block. It's actually more like twice around the earth.
So Jennifer says: There was no comment from Lopez's rep.

George Clooney

On the ground: George favors a Tango, an electric car that gets a whopping 135 miles to the charge.
In the air: Los Angeles/Tokyo, 5500 miles in a private jet.
Gas guzzled:
7,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Electric shocker: Even with his super-saver Tango, he'll have to drive over 57 oceans -- Pacific Oceans to break even.
So George says: Clooney's rep, publicist Stan Rosenfield, tells TMZ, "You clearly have no understanding of certain people's need for private transport," and points out that Clooney often has "no control" over his travel schedule.

Brad Pitt gets off his private jetBrad Pitt

On the ground:
Eco-champ Brad is yet another Prius-lover, and he reportedly has several hybrids in his stable.
In the air: Los Angeles/Namibia, 9,400 miles in a private jet.
Gas guzzled:
11,000 gallons of jet fuel.
Prius penance: Brad burned enough fuel to take a Prius to the moon.
So Brad says: Pitt didn't have any comment. His rep tells TMZ that Pitt is out of the country.

Leo fueling his PriusAnd the true-blue Green Award goes to ... Leo DiCaprio.

On the ground: Leo drives a Toyota Prius
In the air: Leo flies just like us folk -- commercial, unless he positively must fly private because of scheduling.
Prius penance: None.

Another case of "do as I say, not as I do." I'm sick of these people trying to shame us into changing our lifestyles to go "green" but as soon as there is an inconvenience to thier precious time, they choose the easy way. Taking a private jet is like driving alone in the HOV lane.

If people would stop worshipping these people and not buy their mostly horrible movies and records, then they wouldn't be a problem. Either that or run them off the roads in their tiny Prius's down a high cliff into the ocean off Malibu. Both ways would work fine.

There's more to add to the list.

Is anyone suprised by this? One of the classic tactics of the left, is to wag their fingers in everyone else's face about whatever the issue is, and doing exactly the opposite when it's in their own personal interests to do so. Remember the buffoon, John Kerry, in the last election ... preaching green to everyone while travelling in a private jet to one of he and Teresa's many mansions scattered all over the globe. Look it up in the dictionary - the word is hypocrite!

Ha-wee-wood celebs aren' the only ones tooling around while burnin' a piss-pot load of go-juice. Check out "N57HJ" (enter the preceeding in the Flight/Tail# field) at this site:

John and Teressa Kerry will appreciate your interest in exactly how efficient their Gulfstream IV is when the pickles absolutely have to get there overnite.

p.s. What the heck is in Trinidad?

Who would waste their time defending celebrities? I mean are these lame defenses posted on here by Brad Pitt and George Clooney themselves? Or their mommies? Who would honestly feel a drop of sympathy for these people? This must be a clear and alarming sign of mental illness. At least Leonardo flies commercial therefore not wasting thousands of gallons of gas unnecessarily when there are many flights going where he's going anyway. There are true enviromentalists and then there are the celebrity phonies that are only following trends while preaching to the rest of us. You should give up your SUV but DO NOT ask me to give up my private plane. HOW DARE YOU! I cannot be seen with the unwashed middle americans.

Most everyone missed the point of the entire article if you ask me...

The relative scale of their consumption says that they could drive just about any type of car and it wouldn't matter in the shadow of the impact their jet-setting has on the environment. If it matters. That's still open for discussion... but I digress.

Driving the hybrids when tooling down to the shop for a latte` is strictly a feel good 'ism for those with more money than their dedicated fans will ever have in their lives. Why poor people (again relative) defend entertainers while giving away their hard earned cash to them... maybe save it next time... blows me away.

I think other stars like Madonna should be taxed on their pollution for picking up kids from 3rd world countries. Then again, 3rd world countries pollute more than all of the celebrities combined. Put that in your bong and smoke it.

I love it! The only one I give any credit to is least he can fly with the rest of us low lives. The comments from people who actually defend these self-centered snobs cracks me up. Call it what it is: HYPOCRISY!! They are hypocrites! Especially Clooney, and, I find it real interesting that two of the other celebs highlighted in this article are his buddies, Julia "horse-mouth" Roberts, and Brad "I'm too sexy for myself" Pitt. Oh the joy to see others that are as disgusted and annoyed with these fools as I! No one needs to give any one of them a freaking "break". They want to be in the limelight, then they can handle a wee bit of criticism. They so value the right of Freedom of Speech, then I say: You HYPOCRITS! All the lot of them!

Interesting discussion. I agree that if everyone who preaches conservation flew regular flights like all the rest of us do, it would make what they say easier to take. However, jetting all over the world by yourself or just your entourage is wasteful and should be curtailed. They still put on their pants like me and need to give it up!

George Clooney is a nut who thinks he knows about everything, that he's superior to everyone else. And he's a hypocrite too, eh? He could take lessons from Brad Pitt. Brad was asked by a reporter about his feelings on the Bush administration, and he said "I'm an actor. Why the hell are you asking me?" And now it seems he's got real ethics too. I'm impressed by that. And completely unsurprised with Looney Clooney.

Is anyone surprised that hypocritical limousine liberals from Hollywood tell us how to act.?

Once these dimwitted vanity cases become millionaires they think they are experts on world affairs.

People are turned off by their moralizing and preaching. Every politician that uses them as props insult voters and pay the price at the ballot box.

"State of Fear" by Michael Chriton points out the hypocricy of these so called stars. Thanks for your additional information and it sure makes Mr DiCaprio look good.

Uncle Robby

What about the full-on phony Laurie David? (In case you don't know, she's the wife of Larry David, a creator of "Seinfeld"?) This bitch goes around preaching "Green" and yet flies to her vacation homes in a private jet. What a hypocrite. In addition... Teresa Heinz Kerry and the good senator John. (D-MA) He's never seen a tax increase he didn't like and yet lives off the trust fund his second wife's first husband left her. They fly around on "The Flying Squirrel (Conservationist? I think not!) and enjoy Natucket and Vineyard Sound on his boat The Scaramouche. (Which, when it comes to fuel usage is no Prius) Phonies. Sad that some people think these jerks deserve their confidance and votes.

Being wealthy is not eco-friendly by default. Having multiple residences is wasteful. Aren't even the unoccupied dwellings using electricity? How many square feet does one person need to be comfortable? How many people live perfectly fine with a home of less than 3 thousand? I know I do. So Clooney drives an electric car to photo ops, big deal. How many other cars does he have? Vintage gas guzzling muscle cars, antiques without emission controls- yeah that's really eco-conscious.

It is the epitome of hypocrisy when these jerks take us for fools and act like they're making a difference. They waste more energy in one year than I'll ever waste in a lifetime of driving my seven year old pickup (which I need for work, by the way).

Pamela Anderson and PETA

Here is the best one. Pamela Anderson is very much into PETA and she says she says we have to be sensitive of how animals are killed before consumption. She said the animals don't have to suffer. She cited the cows for example.
Guess what her favorite food is from the FOOD CHANNEL. She loves Moroccan Shrimp (more like prawn I think). Yeah and the shrimp has no brain to think that they are suffering while being caught in a fish boat or laid out of the water to die.
Last I check shrimp do have a brain even if it is small and it is suffocating while being out of water.

And let us check with those movie stars. They want hardwood floors. Hard woord furniture.. and they lecture on us about conservation of the forest. Where do you think those hardwood comes from. I congratulate those that uses bamboo as alternative because those can be grown. But red wood, maple, teak wood etc.. all these wood in the movie stars are by now means FAUX.

What hypocrite these stars can be?
