Did "Grey's" Brawl Force Knight Out of the Closet?

T.R. Knight"Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight told PEOPLE exclusively that he is gay. But was this coming out of his own free will, or as a result of the much-hyped fight between "Grey's" stars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey?

PEOPLE released a statement from Knight today that said, "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."

But the National Enquirer may have tipped us off to the story when they reported that during the fight between Washington and Dempsey, Washington yelled, "I'm not your little faggot like (name deleted)."

The Enquirer said they withheld the name of the co-star Washington mentioned "because of the extreme nature of the slur."

Does Knight's disclosure confirm the Enquirer's story?

Calls to Washington's reps were not immediately returned.

181. Some of the comments here are very disappointing. It's amazing to read people criticizing Washingtons comments with racial slurs and stereotypes of your own.

182. Isaiah could easily be written out of the script. Oh, I don't know, perhaps he could call one of his patients a faggot after realizing he was gay. Perhaps he could show his views by refusing to operate on a gay man solely because he is gay. The hospital would hopefully fire him, Christina would realize what a whiney (get over your hand, jackass, just LEAVE) a**hole he is, and Grey's Anatomy would be cleaned of prejudiced jerks. I think you could find another cute face that can't really act (all of that hand shaking and stern-ness isn't quite oscar-worthy). No one's really emotionally attached to HIS character EXCEPT Christina. And if you are, it sounds like you're wasting your time. Sorry.

183. And # 173, what do you MEAN gay people could "care less about his comments"? As a gay man, I more than CARE. I'm outraged that someone in a position of influence has chosen to use hate. Hate spreads. Offhand comments like calling someone a "fag" or calling things "gay" have always been and always will be hurtful. It's a stab in the heart to be called a faggot. It's a personal attack, and Isaiah Washington personally attacked the entire gay community. Of course we care, if we didn't care the word "faggot" would not be an offensive term. Yes, the gay community has been starting to use it within the community (much like the "n" word), it is still EXTREMELY offensive. Try living as a gay man before you tout your assumed knowledge on the subject!

184. Every actor plays a part. We fall in love with the actor IN THAT PART, not the actor themselves. Rock Hudson, for instance, was a hunk. Learning that he was gay did not change the fact that he played his parts good, we loved him, and nothing should change our feelings for "George" as well. "George" is lovable, cute, and fits right in with all of the other characters.

185. It's sad when one incident happens with a black man-the whole world jumps on his ass. Which one of us have not done or said something in the heat of the moment. Why do you all react with such disdain when you were not there. How many chances did you all give russel crowe and sean penn for going off the hook>DAMN.

Ryan, Please. Please, tell me you do not believe what you typed?

187. I ask you: why oh why is it still okay for a black person to call a gay person "faggot", but God forbid you refer to them as a "nigger".

188. Mel said something inappropriate about the Jews and nobody pointed to his being white.

I was thinking the same thing, he was just seen as a prejudice idiotic human being. IMO, incidents like this just bring out people's prejudices and fradulent self-righteous attitudes. Many people on this board are revealing that they are just as ignorant as Isaiah for making demeaning statements. Isaiah, the human being, was wrong for his outbursts and should apologize. This is a good venue for the covert racists to vent how they really feel about African Americans. Look in the mirror people and remember the many times you've used derogatory terms.
Obviously, race relations in this country have a long, long way to go.

189. We have some good comments on racism and the actions that should be taken. Isaiah was out of line, and should appologize to all parties concerned. I personally do not agree with Gays or Lesbians in general its just not normal whatever way you look at it. But its part of the 21st century and before. But we also have to be realistic here, and I hate to have to agree if he was white and it was racial (which would be just as offensive as homophonians) they would have been fired and the African American population would be screaming foul. The difference with Mel and degrading the Jews, is taken differently they arent a race that will cry out if offended, look what they went through with the Germans. Infact No one remembers what our founding fathers did the native americans and you never hear anything from them either. Bottom line we are all human, we all make mistakes. If facts are true on his violent history, then he really needs some anger management classes.

190. If Burk can not control himself then he needs to go. I have loved this show. Each time a star thinks their briches are better then the others, they leave the show. Now look at Lasal or Mark Anthony, both from E.R. They think they are the starsthat drive us wild. NOT! We lived without them before, we can do it again. Farrah learned nix the trouble makers and let the love show. Bring in more hot bodies and you will get morw women watchers. Maybe Christine needs to start looking at other men.
I say get him off. Now that we all know about his temper tantums like a 2 year old he needs to go back to Nursery School and learn how to play nice with the other 2 year olds.

191. I think Washington is a jerk....I will continue to watch Grey's Anatomy ,but like everyone else in America.....I will not watch it to see him.....I think he should have all the dirt in his life brought out in the public and everyone should point fingers and talk dirt on him..........Isiah is a jerk and should be hung.

192. I think if it was the gay man calling a racial slur about Isiah, Knight would have been asked to leave the show. It goes to show that hate against gays are even sweep under the red carpet in Hollywood.

When you use racial slurs in the work place that should be immediate grounds for dismisal.

END OF STORY!

193. #190 use your religion hate and move to a terrorist country gays are not going anywhere and it is religion that starts the majority of the wars You church going f***ers should not be exempt from taxes and preaching hate and and stirring political parties to start wars! F*** YOU!

194.
Washington MUST be fired!!!! Now that sweet actor must come out of the closet and now us viewers will not be able to believe him when he is with a woman on the show. Just like when Rock Hudson was outed.....hard to see romantic scenes with him in it. Hope George comes out on the show so we can still enjoy his work.

195. I think that the timing of Knight's coming out is a little too coincidental. Frankly, looking back at his performances on the show, I can kinda see it. Nonetheless, to each their own. I could honestly care less about Knight's being gay. It's really none of our business.
Having said this, I choose to believe that Washington's tantrum was true. Last that I remember, his character on the show might not return. I think that the writers inserted that storyline so then Burke could be written out.
Both Knight's coming out and the Burke storyline I think indicates this to be true. If it does come out that Washington's slur was directed toward Knight, then his ass needs to be kicked off the show. If the shoe was on the other foot and Dempsey would have used a racial slur against Washington, he would have been off the show...NO QUESTIONS asked. The same sort of move would be appropriate against Washington.
