Did "Grey's" Brawl Force Knight Out of the Closet?

T.R. Knight"Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight told PEOPLE exclusively that he is gay. But was this coming out of his own free will, or as a result of the much-hyped fight between "Grey's" stars Isaiah Washington and Patrick Dempsey?

PEOPLE released a statement from Knight today that said, "While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I'm gay isn't the most interesting part of me."

But the National Enquirer may have tipped us off to the story when they reported that during the fight between Washington and Dempsey, Washington yelled, "I'm not your little faggot like (name deleted)."

The Enquirer said they withheld the name of the co-star Washington mentioned "because of the extreme nature of the slur."

Does Knight's disclosure confirm the Enquirer's story?

Calls to Washington's reps were not immediately returned.

22. Aww, I love TR whether or not he likes girls.. He's soo sweet on the show, you can only hope that he's truly that sweet in real life. If Isiah said those things..he should pay the price. He wouldn't like someone calling him a slur.

Gay or not he's still my favorite Doc. :)

23. Anyone that that lives under the dellusion that racism does not exist in America anymore needs to read the comments on this website (no...not the STORIES...the COMMENTS...for those of you who can't read). It is alive and kicking right here with the TMZ commenters. I just love the audacity people have when hiding behind a computer.

24. Isiah, just remember that what you can't stand or hate the most will be seen in one of your kids or loved ones.

Posted at 5:59PM on Oct 19th 2006 by Oh, no you didn't!

25. I agree with you Kenni, this is not a race issue it is fight between two guys who make more money than they should and have too much time on their hands! It sounds like they need an anger managment class or loss of one days pay to make them remember they are just actors ACT ALREADY, for goodness sake. Also this it to Mark #13, please get yourself help counseling or anything , if this subject makes you that angry dont watch the news or read the paper you will have a stroke for sure. Peace and love :)

26. Washington should be fired if he's stirring up so much trouble on the set. Shame on him!

27. Number 23...it's people like you that help to perpetuate racism . People here merely commented that if this slur had been racial instead of homophobic it would have been a huge storyn and someone probably would have been, at the very least, fired. Nobody should be subjected to name calling. It's all ugly and it should not be tolerated.

28. I second Missy post. I'm always surprised at the bigotry of some posters. I sure hope it's not indicative of the rest of the US. But sadly I may be wrong.

29. I find this turn of events positively embarassing and telling...if in fact the reports are true. I don't know any of those people, and least of all whether or not one of them is truly homophobic. I do know that when someone willfully demeans ANYONE, we are all impacted. Congratulations to TR Knight for being his own person and keeping perspective at a time when others couldn't. I hope his personal strength keeps bringing him the fulfillment he is working towards.

30. This isn't a topic of race. It's one of ignorance. The people here have used an example of race because it's one that is widely understood. For those who miss the fact that Washington is ignorant for his comments and want to mask it as being a race issue to stand up for him you look just as ignorant. Face it, this is one of those times when you gotta cringe and wish he'd shut the hell up.
